Safety Hazard! Open manholes at popular Walvis Bay playpark Eileen van der Schyff CONCERNED WALVIS BAY residents sent in photos of at least three open manholes at the town's Esplanade Playpark this week, complaining about the threat these open hazards pose to not only children playing in the park, but also adults. The manholes are wide open without any barricades or safety signs, making this a potential accident waiting to happen. “ With the play area very close to these manholes, chances are good someone might fall into one of them while running or walking around in the area. How careless could our municipality be to leave them open? Are they waiting for someone to fall into one of these and get injured or lose a life due to these neglected open manholes and then only act in covering these death traps?” One resident exclaimed during a telephonic interview with the Namib Times.
