After having the whole region and country in turmoil, seafarer Lisius Pendukeni Nkandi, 44, who was reported missing on Sunday, 18 August, after launching a motorless dinghy to return to land, returned home safely on Tues-

day this week around noon, attributing his survival to divine intervention. Nkandi spent nearly three days adrift in the rubber dinghy, battling this week's rough seas and unsure of his exact location.

Strong currents stalled his attempt to reach land, and he was forced to fight for survival on the open sea with only paddles to his aid. Back on land, the search for Nkandi was hampered by poor weather conditions, which delayed rescue efforts. The Ministry of Fisheries authorised the use of a patrol aircraft to assist in the search, but adverse weather prevented the mission from continuing. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) also issued warnings of strong waves and high tides due to this week's Super Blue Moon, which contributed to the challenging conditions at sea.
