Henties Bay Municipal Executive in Court Sharlien Tjambari
Haroldt Ricardo Kruger, the Strategic Executive for Corporate Services at the Henties Bay Municipality, appeared in front of Magistrate Conchita Olivier at the Swakopmund Magistrate Court on charges of fraud this week, after he was summoned to court on Thursday. The accusations against Kruger involve the alleged forgery of a community member's signature and impersonation of that individual, utilising their name, contact number, and signature. Namib Times reached out to Willem Jansen, a Henties Bay resident and community activist whose name, signature, and contact number were involved in the incident. According to Jansen, the incident unfolded in July of the previous year while he was in Windhoek accompanying his wife for medical reasons. Around 20 July, he received an unexpected call from an individual claiming to be from Coastal Couriers. The caller asked where in Windhoek he should deliver a package that had been sent from
Swakopmund. Jansen became suspicious and responded, "What parcel? I didn't send any parcel." Upon further inquiry, he realised that something was amiss. He drove to the location and discovered his name, cellphone numbers, and a forged signature on the waybill. Inside the package were three envelopes containing identical letters. Jansen informed the driver that someone was fraudulently using his name and decided to take possession of the documents. He contacted Coastal Couriers, who confirmed they had no knowledge of the sender. Jansen requested CCTV footage from Coastal Continues on page 2
