Two former employees of the Husab uranium mine are suspects in a robbery of the mine's paymaster in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A case of robbery was opened at the Arandis police station. The police's public relations division confirmed the incident and said the two suspects entered the Mine's premises through the main gate in a Volkswagen Polo (N7804S). They proceeded to block 16 (room no. 7) where the paymaster's living quarter is. They forced open the door and overpowered their victim, 27-year old Liu Yiyu, who was asleep at the time. Yiyu is a Chinese national working for Husab. The suspects allegedly threatened the victim with knives, tied him up and stole a laptop, two cellular phones, three watches, an
external hard drive and N$12 000-00 in cash. The suspects left the Mine's premises with the same vehicle, not bearing in mind that the security systems in place were detecting their moves and could easily identify the vehicle. The total value of the loot is N$69 000-00, explained police spokesperson Erastus Iikuyu. At the time of going to press the two suspects were still at large and the vehicle used in the crime was also not yet recovered. The assistance of the public is needed to trace the suspects. Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group – re-affirmed its longstanding commitment to Project Shine with a donation of N$80,000 to the 2017 campaign. Celebrating its 10th year of existence since its inception in 2007 on World Environmental Day, Project Shine - a partnership project between the Swakopmund Municipal Council; main sponsor NBL; Bannerman Resources; First National Bank (FNB Namibia), and Plastic Packaging - continues to grow in success. Project Shine comprises of two environmental activities namely a clean-up campaign and an awareness campaign. The main focus of the cleanup campaign remains on the main road between Swakopmund and Arandis (30 km outside) and the back road to Henties Bay from the B2 road, behind DRC. Engelbrecht: “The awareness campaign is focused on instilling mindfulness and understanding of waste management, as well as the risk involved in illegal dumping of waste along the roads and open spaces, and to put more focus on the importance of recycling the waste generated in municipal jurisdiction. This project promotes cleanliness, recycling and contributes to the social upliftment of Swakopmund. Project Shine has grown to become a remarkable environmental activity which has been embraced and strongly supported by the community. 47 people benefit from Knowledge Katti Foundation A total of 47 people of the Walvis Bay community were happy yesterday to receive their letters of commitment for financial assistance from the Knowledge Katti Foundation. The Foundation set aside N$1 million, which could be used in the form of collateral or loans for people in financial need. Those selected for assistance were handed their letters of commitment at the Kuisebmond Community Hall yesterday morning. A total of N$323 500 will be used to assist the above mentioned 47 recipients. The N$1 million pledge was made by business tycoon Knowledge Katti. He wants the Fund to assist residents and vulnerable families in Kuisebmond and Narraville.

Dunes Mall to open in October
The Dunes Mall, located at the entrance of Walvis Bay at the Diaz traffic roundabout will be open for business on 26 October this year. The mall is developed in partnership by three of Africa's largest shopping mall developers – Safland, Tradehold and Atterbury. These three giants also hold retail properties in Europe. Dunes Mall measures an impressive 27 500 square meters, eighty shops and 1 000 parking spaces. The mall is served by three entry points. The mall boasts an open restaurant court, with each food outlet arranged around a central fountain. Anchor tenants include: Checkers, Pick'n Pay, Woolworths, Foschini Group, Mr Price Group, Dischem, Pepcor, Clicks and Spur. 17-year-old raped by taxi driver Piquet Jacobs
The Walvis Bay community is left in shock at the news of a 17year-old Kuisebmond Secondary School student allegedly raped by a taxi driver during the early hours of Sunday morning. The suspect is still at large. The victim was reportedly on her way home from the Seapoint area of Kuisebmond, when the taxi picked her up. The driver allegedly ignored her directions and drove to a spot in the direction of the Narraville bridge, where he allegedly forced himself on her and then drove off. With the victim left stranded at the rape scene, she had to find her way home. She reported the matter to the Police and said it happened between 01:00 and 02:00. Due to the extreme trauma the victim suffered, she cannot recall all the detail. The Police urge anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.

Despite Namibia giving high priority to women's equality, women in all spheres of society are not utilised to their full potential when it comes to planning and decision making. That is the case for women in the public sector, in politics and also in the private sector.

That is according to the Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Mrs Doreen Sioka who officially opened a seminar for women in politics in Swakopmund this week. Gender equality in parliament and politics was a key point that came under scrutiny during the seminar. In attendance were representatives of different political parties in Namibia, officials from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Welfare and officials from the organisation International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), which promotes gender equality in SADC. “Women are given low profiles when it comes to planning, both in politics and public and private spheres. They are underestimated and in most cases not included in the formulation of national development plans, discussions and decisions.” Sioka urged political parties to amend or consider amending their constitutions to embrace the notion of gender equality. She continued: “the multi-dimensional nature of women's economic empowerment demands a multi-sectoral approach; hence the need for political parties to collaborate in developing strategies that will bring women on board in all areas of socio-economic and political developments”. According to Sioka, gender equality is not about women taking over positions of power from men. It is about men and women working together in partnership, for the good and development of any nation. It is about men and women bringing their ideas to the table, to ensure that all gender perspectives are taken into account. Ultimately, any decision influences both men and women and leaving certain perspectives out leads to incomplete decisions. “We know that a multitude of complex factors impedes women's opportunities and their ability to participate in politics and represented equally with their men counterparts in leadership. Persistent, deeply entrenched discriminatory social norms, stereotypes and practices hold back progress on gender equality”, Sioka noted. Sioka felt it was high time political parties embrace the agenda of women empowerment and gender equality. In this way national development goals and Vision 2030 can be achieved. She stressed women should not only elect, but should also be elected into positions of authorities and governance.

“Your father caused the accident” - Defence Advocate insists collision on Dippenaar's side of the road Antonia Joschko, the key-witness in the Dippenaar murder trial spent more than five hours on the witness stand on Wednesday and Thursday under a gruelling cross-examination by Jandré Dippenaar's defense, Advocate Louis Botes. Dippenaar is among other charges accused of having caused the deaths of six people in a vehicle accident on the Swakopmund-Henties Bay road on 29 December 2014. Joschko is the sole survivor of her family, after her father, mother and sister died when their vehicle and that of Dippenaar's was involved in a head-on collision. Three people in Dippenaar's vehicle also died. After leaving the witness stand the case was postponed for continuation of trial in November this year. The Namibian Police continues to pounce on the coast's drug underworld. In the latest results of an ongoing operation, this time in Henties Bay's Omdel suburb, drugs were found to the value of N$42 350-00 as well as more than N$43 000 in cash which is believed to be drug proceeds. The success follows only days after similar arrests during anti-drug operations in Swakopmund's Mondesa suburb and Walvis Bay's Kuisebmond suburb. A 58-year old woman, Portia Ntombikayizo Zweni, was arrested on a charge of dealing in cannabis. The suspect was found with 230 grams of cannabis and 400 suspected Mandrax tablets, with a combined value of N$ 42 300-00. A street fight breaks out in Swakopmund A video circulated on social media of two young men embroiled in a street fight in Swakopmund's central business district, witnessed by shocked residents and tourists. The incident occurred around lunch time and leads to renewed concerns over the youth of the coastal towns walking around armed with knives and other potentially harmful weapons. In the video which was circulated on social media, the young men first insulted each other and one threatened to stab the other with an object which cannot be identified from screen grabs (above) from the video. The incident was a stone's throw from a toy store frequented by children as well as a medical practice visited by the elderly. One of the person's involved in the fight made mention that "he knew who the other one was and that he would find him". Big support for AnĂŠ
A large crowd of people gathered in support of AnĂŠ Hanekom, who remains in critical condition. They participated in a peaceful march from the municipality of Walvis Bay to the parking of Welwitchia Hospital where a prayer service was held. Friends and family, as well as learners came together to attend a candlelight prayer service for the teacher in hopes of her recovery. Hanekom, along with two other cyclists were hit by a light delivery truck on 11 July. The incident has inspired the blossom of a cyclist safety awareness campaign known as BE SEEN BE SAFE.

Important to understand the relation between women empowerment, peace and security: Doreen Sioka
The delegates all gathered for a group photo at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre Sharlien Tjambari A conference on Namibia's National Action Plan (NAP) on women, peace and security was hosted this week by the Ministry of Defence, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare (MGECW) at Swakopmund. This conference discussed the way forward to develop a common understanding on the relation between the empowerment women and how it positively affects a country's peace and security. “It is important for society to have consensus on this issue, in particular government departments, civil society, faith based organisations and development partners in Namibia,” explained the Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare Mrs. Doreen Sioka at the opening ceremony of the conference. She continues: “This meeting will allow us to share information on achievements, challenges and gaps in implementing a women-, peace- and security agenda and for us all to agree on priority areas that will be included in the NAP on women, peace and security.” The conference also provided a learning platform for other SADC member states which want to develop a NAP on women, peace and security. Sioka explained the relevance of gender equality in relation to peace and security is reflected within the governance-, peace-, security- and disaster management clusters. In Namibia, this cluster is coordinated by the Office of the Prime Minister and co-chaired by the Ministry of Defence. “The National Action Plan will be another milestone that seeks to affirm Namibia's policy and security institutions, promoting gender equality and women's full participation in conflict prevention, resolution and peace support operations,” further stated Sioka continues. Adding: “for the effective coordination across all sectors, the MGECW has established a national coordination mechanism for gender equality and women empowerment that oversees the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the National Gender Policy and the National Gender Plan of Action.” The minister applauded the military in Namibia for its outstanding support on peace and security in the country and urged young girls to join the defence force of Namibia “in great numbers”. She said once the young girls have joined the force, the hard work only starts, because the path to achieve top positions is not easy.

Aircraft will remain available to Air Namibia – Westair Aviation Piquet Jacobs
Frequent flyers of the coast were asking critical questions in recent day over the acquisition by Westair Aviation of four Embraer ERJ135 aircraft from Air France. These aircraft are leased by Air Namibia and the acquisition raised eyebrows and resulted in uncertainty. Westair Aviation placed the matter on the public record with the following statement: “The Westair Group of Companies confirms their commitment to purchase the four Embraer 135 aircraft currently under lease to Air Namibia from HOP! ( a division of Air France), who is the current owner and lessor of the Aircraft. As a 100% Namibian owned company, we believe in promoting and supporting business within our borders. During the past 50 years of the existence of Westair Aviation we have continually expanded the company's core business areas of aircraft acquisition, aircraft refurbishment, aircraft leases and direct aircraft operations. This new venture is in alignment with Westair's core values of doing aviation related business in Namibia, whilst unlocking the economies of scale. Westair would like to reassure all stake holders and the traveling public that the aircraft will remain available to Air Namibia for uninterrupted and undisturbed operations. 10 tips to save on banking charges “In principle, choosing an ideal banking account for your needs, keeping abreast of fees and knowing what value you are getting from your bank should help you avoid unnecessary bank charges,” says Jerome Namaseb, Manager of Product, Pricing and Profitability at FNB Namibia. “As with most things in life, bank charges also increase on an annual basis and if you can't quite put your finger on bank charges when checking your statement every month, it is possible that you either don't have the best banking account that suits your transacting needs or may have adopted behaviour that is costing you a bit more. We wish to assist all our customers in ensuring they get the best for their money and save on fees where possible,” he adds. Jerome shares ten tips on how to save on banking charges: 1. Choosing the right account – never choose a bank account merely on its monthly account fee, rather base the decision on your transacting needs to avoid incurring additional charges. For example, on a pay as you use structure you may be charged extra every time you make a transaction, while on a bundle offering you are able to perform multiple or unlimited transactions without incurring additional charges. A pay as you use structure would be best suited for a customer with a low number of monthly transactions, while bundle offerings are best suited for those with a higher number of monthly transactions. Make sure that you chose a bundle that is in line with your monthly transactional behaviour and monthly needs. 2. Avoid using another bank's ATM – avoid withdrawing money at an ATM belonging to another bank as the costs are higher than using your bank's ATM. 3. Bank on digital channels – whenever possible try to use digital and electronic channels for transactions as these are usually free or attract lower costs compared to using a bank branch. In addition, digital channels offer you the convenience of performing your banking anywhere anytime; thereby saving you time and money by avoiding travelling to a branch. 4. Swiping your card – instead of withdrawing cash to purchase necessities rather swipe your card as it is safer than carrying cash. Check whether your bank offers unlimited card swipes at no additional charge regardless of the amount. 5. Avoid penalty charges – always make sure there is sufficient money in your
account to cover all purchases and debit orders. This will help you from incurring penalty charges when transactions fail. 6. Overdraft facility fees – An overdraft facility helps meet those unexpected cashflow shortfalls and will help you avoid penalty fees due to insufficient funds. Although FNB only charges customers for having an overdraft facility when they use it, other banks may charge you a monthly fee for merely having the facility, even if
you don't use it. 7. Bank Statements – if you have an email address, request your bank to rather email your statement to you instead of posting them. Not only will they arrive much sooner, but you will avoid any charges for postal statements that some banks may levy. If you need to check your transaction history, make use of your bank's digital channels to view your balance, transaction history or download your recent statements for free.
8. Take care of bank cards – be extra cautious with your bank cards as some banks will usually charge you a fee for replacing them. 9. Monthly caps – exceeding monthly caps for certain transactions may attract additional fees. For example, on certain account bundles FNB offers you a number or value of ATM withdrawals for free, with additional charges as soon as you exceed the limit. 10. Lastly, don't ignore
communication from your bank. “Banks often review their account fees annually offering you a breakdown of changes and adjustments. It's important to thoroughly go through and understand these fee changes and how they impact the way you transact on a monthly basis,” emphasises Jerome. Mein Bester, Sie vergessen meine ungeheure Leidenschaft, Pflanzen fürs Herbarium zu pressen. Bücher lasten, Bücher haben Kraft. Junger Freund, Sie sind recht unerfahren, und Sie fragen etwas reichlich frei. Auch bei andern Menschen als Barbaren gehen schließlich Bücher mal entzwei. Wie? - ich jemals auch in Büchern lese?? Oh, sie unerhörter Ese--Nein, pardon! - Doch positus, ich säße auf dem Lokus und Sie harrten draußen meiner Rückkehr, ach dann nur ja nicht länger auf mich warten. Denn der Lokus ist bei mir ein Garten, den man abseits ohne Zeit und Uhr düngt und erntet dann Literatur. Bücher - nein, ich bitte Sie inständig: Nicht mehr fragen! Laß dich doch belehren! Bücher, auch wenn sie nicht eigenhändig handsigniert sind, soll man hochverehren. Bücher werden, wenn man will, lebendig. Über Bücher kann man ganz befehlen. Liebe Küstenleser! Stellen Sie sich einmal ein Leben ohne Gehör vor, keine Ahnung davon zu haben, was ein Klang eigentlich ist, ein Geräusch, ein Pfeifen, Rauschen, Singen oder Jubeln. Welch ein Verlust an Lebensqualität muss es sein so ganz ohne das Haustierchen eines Ohrwurms, - wenn keine Bachsche Passion durch die Gehörgänge dringt und das Herz leidenschaftlich zum Schwingen bringt oder keine ungehemmte Kwaito-Musik aus Mondesa Amboss, Hammer und Steigbügel nervös zucken lassen, sodass man sich auch ohne Kaffee eine schlaflose Nacht des Schöpferischseins um die Ohren schlagen muss! Für unsere Herero-Haushilfe Ramana, die direkt gegenüber von einer Shebeen wohnt, dürfte eine auf die Nächte beschränkte Gehörlosigkeit allerdings ein Segen sein, wenn sie noch nicht gelernt hat, ihre Ohren auf Durchzug zu stellen. Oder man male sich gar die gesamte namibische Nation als taub aus. Wäre es tatsächlich solch ein Schaden,
wenn das nichtssagende Warrawarra diverser Politiker, Pastoren und sonstiger s c h ö n g e i s t i g - a b e rinhaltslos daherpalavernder Rhetorikern an fingerdickem Ohrenschmalz abprallte und wirkungslos im Äther verpuffte? Kann Stille ohne Ohrstöpsel bzw. Ohropax und all diesen unnötigen lawaai um uns herum zur Abwechslung nicht mal eine absolute
Erholung sein? Ich möchte hier keineswegs irgendeinem total tauben oder gehörgeschädigten Menschen auf die Füße treten. Im Gegenteil, ich habe auch Probleme mit meinen Lauschern und stopfe daher hin und wieder solch einen Miniaturlautsprecher in meine Gehörschnecke, damit man mich nicht für behindert hält,
wenn ich nur mit halbem Ohr zuhöre bzw. mit abgenutztem Innenohr etwas falsch verstehe. Manchmal denke ich wirklich, dass das Nachlassen des Gehörs keine allzu schlechte Sache ist, denn ich finde die Welt eh viel zu laut. Miskien ist es kein Zufall, dass der deutsche Begriff “laut” in der Boeretaal mit ,,hard” übersetzt wird.
Ein lautes Umfeld ist meist auch ein hartes, finde ich. Vielleicht möchte ich es auch einfach so sehen, weil ich die Leisetreter bevorzuge, da sie eigentlich oft mehr zu sagen haben als all diese Großmäuler, die so viel grässlich-grellen Krach in die Welt hinausposaunen. Leider gehöre ich oftmals auch zu letzteren, weshalb ich wahrscheinlich als Gegengewicht den stoischen Menschen brauche. Verstehen Sie mich nicht falsch, liebe Leser. Ich stelle mir ein Leben ohne Musikhören-zu-können, ohne den Ohrenschmaus von Ennio Morricones Komposition ,,Gabriels Oboe” schrecklich vor. Andererseits summt mir ganz leise der Anfang des Desiderata-Prosagedichtes im Kopf herum: ,,Gehe ruhig und gelassen durch Lärm und Hast und sei des Friedens eingedenk, den die Stille bergen kann...” Nein, auf das Gehör verzichen will man keineswegs. Wenn eine gute Fee mir allerdings ihr Ohr leihen und einen Wunsch erfüllen würde, wäre das folgender: ein eingebauter Mechanismus, der die Lauscher sich automatisch aufstellen lässt, wenn ein abgeklärter Mensch sinnvoll redet oder eine Biene summend ihrer Arbeit nachgeht, und bei dem die Löffel sich sofort nach innen falten, um jeglichen Stuss, der aus brab-
belnden Mündern fließt, abprallen zu lassen. Übrigens noch etwas ganz anderes über unsere Hörorgane: Könnten Sie mir eine Antwort darauf geben, wa-
rum die Ohren bei betagten Menschen meist überdimensional sind? Hat die Natur es eventuell so eingerichtet, dass der Mensch im Alter besser hinhört, damit ihm die Streitigkeiten ums Erbe nicht entgehen? Ferner wüsste ich von Ihnen gerne, warum man eigentlich von einer Ohrfeige spricht. Ich habe in meinen 55 Lebensjahren zwar noch nie eine bekommen, weshalb ich in Sachen Ohrfeige noch feucht hinter den Ohren bin, aber was hat denn ein Hieb auf die Backe mit den Ohren oder mit einer Feige zu tun? Ham Sie da ‘nen Kluh? Das einzige, was mir hier mit juckenden Ohren in meinem Ohrensessel lümmelnd dazu einfällt, ist Folgendes: Eine Feige ist ja bekannt dafür, dass sie aufquillt, weshalb sie zum Beispiel bei Verstopfung förderlich ist. Da die Wange bei einer ordentlichen Backpfeife sicherlich auch schwillt, liegt da der Vergleich, oder? Aber was hat das Ohr mit einem Schlag auf die Backe zu tun? Es ist doch nicht so, dass man jemandem dabei tatsächlich etwas um die Ohren haut. Oder doch? Schließlich bedeutet Letzteres ja, jemanden zu kritisieren, und warum sollte die Ohrfeige bei einem Choleriker nicht das iTüpfelchen einer Kritik sein? Bevor ich hier weiteren Unsinn von mir gebe, möchte ich mich lieber von Ihnen verabschieden. Halten Sie die Ohren steif - und bis nächste Woche. Ihre Susann Kinghorn

"We are putting major focus on the content for the WesBank SA Motoring Experience to ensure it will be an unforgettable event for all our visitors," says Konstantin von Vieregge, the CEO of SA Shows Messe Frankfurt, which is staging the event at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on September 1-3. "Messe Frankfurt has an international partnership with the organisers of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and I was recently able to see first-hand how they use content as the driver to attract a wide spectrum of visitors to their renowned event when I visited the
latest staging of the Festival of Speed in England in June. "This worldfamous event has been staged since 1993 and the focus on content has resulted in it growing steadily over the past 24 years. The fact that tickets are usually fully sold out on each of its four days has resulted in it becoming a very important event for exhibitors wanting to promote the latest cars and related products and services," added Von Vieregge. The Goodwood Festival of Speed had its major focus, originally, on motor sport, but it has proved such a drawcard

that it is now considered the unofficial British Motor Show after the official motor show ended in 2008. "This is no longer a static display of parked cars as one finds at a traditional motor show, but rather an action-packed festival with a p a s s i o n - fu e l l e d vibe and various on-track, four- and two-wheel activations as well as opportunities to meet local motorsport legends and see their cars. Visitors will be able to interact with icons of the past such as multiple rally and racing drivers Sarel van der Merwe, who is celebrating 50 years in motorsport, and Geoff Mortimer as well as racing stars such as Ian Scheckter, Arnold Chatz, Basil Green, Paulo Cavalieri and Franco Scribante, while on-track tributes will be paid to motorsport stars who are no longer with us, such as Eddie Keizan and Tony Viana. Many of the iconic cars driven by these people will
be demonstrated on track. Motorcycles will join car clubs with various parades on the main circuit, adding to the exciting and varied daily programme. Besides the display of elite classic and unique cars in the pit building there will be static display of cars on the upper platform alongside the track. Fans of classic cars will be able to move among these club displays and talk to their enthusiastic owners. "The Motoring Experience will offer something for everybody over three days at the beginning of September, be it the ordinary motorist wanting to com-
models on the local market or the motorsport enthusiast wanting to meet his or her heroes and heroines and view the cars they drive now or drove in the glorious past. Martin wins 1000 Dunes Swakop Rally Swakopmund was the stomping ground for the first ever WBMC club rally championship last weekend . The 1000 Dunes Swakop Rally attracted a total of 17 entries who competed in their individual classes. The rally route covered a total distance of 153.00 kilometres of which 98.9 km consisted of 7 special stages The early stages saw Allan Martin and Maretha Olivier in their VW Polo S2000 steadily building up a lead over their closest competitors and were crowned as the winners. Swakopmund based Oswaldo Mendes and Cecil Koorts came in second and enjoyed a top performance in their Subaru , in the other Subaru Willem Hugo and Mandi Hugo clinched a well deserved 3rd place. Hanre Myburgh and Dawie Hartzenberg secured fourth place in their VW Polo 1600 with Pieter Greeff and Uween Lourens in fifth place . Amongst the new entries were Zachary Martin and Michael Strydom in their VW Golf 1600, Francois Louw and Freddy Smith VW Polo 2.0 and Pieter Karsten and Eugene Koen in their Toyota Hilux 2.7 bakkie . The less fortunate and disappointed drivers who could not make it to the end because of
breakdowns were Jan Everson and Fanie Botes they were joined by Marco Luis and De Wet Du Plessis , Tinus Malan and Jacky Van Zyl , Riaan Viljoen and Marc Viljoen . Asked to comment on the rally, many drivers agreed that this was for sure one of the best organized and the one with the most sportsmanship rally organized for the past few years . The rally was organized by Walvis Bay Motor Club and was described as a great event with challenging stages . The spectators enjoyed the action and excitement of the race . The sponsors made it possible for the event to be held and contributed to the great success of the day . Rossmund Golf Results for the Past Week
The weekend has been just perfect for golf – sunshine (although not really hot) very little wind and no mist. Sunday 16 July saw a good field of SAGES for their monthly competition sponsored by Puma Chemical. Tee-off was around 8 o'clock and things were a bit chilly but as the day warmed up so did the golf. Achmet Abrahams managed to produce the only 2-club of the day whilst he also secured the Nearest to the Pin Prize on Number 12 with Chris Wood taking Number 7. Overall winner on an excellent score of 40pts was Shorty van der Walt; 2nd: Achmet Abrahams 38pts; 3rd: Vic Moll35pts as always with SAGES everyone goes home a winner. Thanks to Oom Frans from Puma for the great prizes. Saturday 15 July a small field of golfers turned out to support Destination Swakopmund in a Betterball Competition. (Many of the regular golfers having taken the decision to travel north to take part in the Northern Open @ Tsumeb Golf Club. Hopefully we will have some results for your next week.) There was only one 2-club coming from Des Benson. Winners with an excellent score of 46pts Warren Theron and Bertie Saunderson. In second place on 42pts Des Benson and Dean Kock winning a count out over Achmet Abrahams and Eddie van Wyk. Wednesday 12 July - despite the cool weather conditions we had an excellent field of 37 players vying for the prizes on offer by Prestige Accounting. It was great to have Fritz and his team back on board. 18 hole winners: 1st: Athol McLean 42pts; 2nd: Michael Ludeke 39pts. Our 9 hole winner for this week was Oom Frans Blaauw with a well played 21pts winning a count out over Dean Kock. Well played to all and thanks for the support. 8/9 July - the course was busy with the Annual Club Championships sponsored by Marsh Namibia. Weather conditions on both days were good, although I believe things got a bit
cooler as Saturday evening approached. The competition was well supported despite the various other sporting activities taking place. Andrew van Schalk-wyk carded an excellent 71 gross to be the leader in the clubhouse after Round 1 - one ahead of Licuis Nande (72) followed closely by Cobus De Klerk (76) and Kevin Wentzel (78). In the "B" Division Chris Wood carded an 82 gross with Fanie Terblanche and Fanus Jordaan watching from a short distance. Jacque van der Merwe was holding up the "C" Division ahead of Tienie van Rensburg and Gerhard Beyleveld. In the Ladies Division it was no holds barred for Caro Els (recently returned from the USA for a short holiday) shooting a 73 gross. Unfortunately Andrew could not keep up the pressure on Sunday carding a 78 whilst Licuis managed to pro-duce yet again a par round of 72. Congratulations to Licuis on his successful defense of his title. Karen Lohman represented Marsh at the prize giving ceremony and thanked all the players for their support - whilst Licuis thanked the sponsors and all the players for their participation. Namib Diesel Social League The final stretch this week with the penultimate and final rounds on Wednesday and Friday respectively, and if the weather stays the way as it is at the moment that ball is going to be like a piece of putty on the court. It's going to take some serious movement and powerful hitting to keep the games flowing. The teams must also bear in mind that it's go for broke to make a difference points wise. th
The results for Wednesday 12 are as follows:Fuel Pump Repairs Africa [2] vs Supatronix [4] 1. Stefan van Tonder vs Emil Dorgeloh 0-3. If Stefan was fully recovered then Emil took a good win. 2. Robert Schaaf vs Ze de Britto 2-3. Wow, what a tight match. Ze was charged, expected a tough duel and took a supa match. 3. Callie Geel vs Edwin van Urk 3-2. As a reserve, Callie had his A-game on. 4. Doyle de Haas vs Bykes Muashekele 1-3. Doyle tried to creep in. Bykes adapted his play and managed to hold the advantage. 5. Michail Pretorius vs JC Platt 0-3. JC's current form of play remained uninterrupted for the duration of the match. 6. Cindy Kruger vs Anet Bosman 3-1. Once Cindy cleared the blockages in her fuel line it was game over for Anet. Rent-A-Drum [3] vs Terra Nova [3]. 1. Ze-Elias de Jongh vs Angelo Titus 0-3. Angie's relaxed, easy style of play was too
much for Ze to cope with. 2. Cabous Olivier vs Wynand Breytenbach 3-0. Cabous drummed it in with his maneuverability and easy flowing style. 3. Bertus Fokkens vs Carla Cummings 3-2. Bertus had his work cut out for him and just managed to tip it in his favour. 4. Ricardo von Stein vs Kobus Oelofse 3-0. Ricardo did what was expected of him and took the super-sub down. 5. Anneke Wormsbacher vs Sam Webster 1-3. Sam managed to his footing on shaky ground to get the better of Anneke. 6. Amy Volker vs Paula Louw 2-3. It was a good 5-setter with Amy nursing a bit of an injury. WB Hardware & Building Supplies [3] vs First Guarding [3]. 1. Luke Allen vs Trevor Heath 3-0. Shifting up sucks. Luke was cool though, but made sure he nailed it. 2. Chantel de Gouveia vs Eric Mans 3-0. Chantel's demolishing prowess smashed through Eric's guard. 3. Johan van der Merwe vs Ryan Gruhn 1-3.
The reserves put up a good show. Ryan pulled it off for FG. 4. Ricku Mans vs Lindsay Lottering 2-3. Yeah, Lindz took the gap that was offered and her game just escalated. 5. Patrick Quinn vs Anthony van der Meer 0-3. Firstly Anthony's reach and movement across the court was good. Pat gave it his all, but just could not keep up. 6. Estelle Bothma vs Yvette Greeff 3-1. Jislaaik it Estelle daai drop net bo die tin was n killer. Yvette had no answer to it. JAJ Logistics [4] vs Synapse [2] 1. Sergio Figueiredo vs Leslie Bosman 3-1. Serg was on top of his game and made a meal of it. 2. Craig Hearn vs Peter Pahl 2-3. It was definitely not as easy as Peter had hoped it would be. 3, Kobus van Schalkwyk vs Blackie Zwart 3-1. Kobus pulled off a great win for JAJ. 4. Liandro Martins vs Ockie du Plessis 3-2. It was a great 5-setter. Liandro played the game of his life and ground out a good win. 5. Greer Coppin vs Jakkie Nel 0-3. That was rather sporting of you, old chap. 6. Izabe Heinz vs Heibri-Ann Hartung 3-0. The reserves are definitely doing their thing this year. Gateway Logistics [3] vs Seawork [3] 1. Imanuel Amorongo vs Brandon Grane 2-3. Wow! Wotta match. It kept the supporters rooted to their spots. Brandon made a slight alteration in his play to take the game. 2. Richard van der Meer vs Jurgen Sander 0-3. Jurgen kept his cool and made sure everything worked in his favour. 3. Christopher Hill vs Andre Davids 3-1. There were a couple of tight games there. Christopher used some intelligent play to swing the gate open in his favour. 4. Arlene Visser vs Reinette Mentz 1-3. Reinette's skills were too much for Arlene to match. 5. Christelle Eimann vs Jon Allen 3-0. Christelle's play was well executed and opened the gateway to victory. 6. Dina van der Meer vs Bernette Louw 3-2. This was a battle and a half. Dina managed to keep her cool and seal a great win. Friday is the finals followed by prize giving. There is no need mentioning this, but it's going to be a blast so make sure you are there.

Walvisbaai Rugby Klub vasbeslote om semi-finaal teen Unam te wen Na veertien weke en 112 rugbywedstryde het ons nou by die punt gekom waar die 2017 NRU Premierliga se halfeindronde beslis gaan word. Walvisbaai Rugby Klub (4de op die punteleer) en Unam (voorlooper op die punteleer) takel mekaar môre in hul semi-finale wedstryd op die Hage Geingob stadion in Windhoek. Dit gaan 'n taai stryd wees. UNAM is 'n gedugte teenstaander. Hy het vanjaar al sy wedstryde gewen en het die liga-fase geeïndig met 75 punte. Western Suburbs wat tweede lê het met 55 punte geeïndig. Wat gaan Walvisbaai teen dié gedugte span doen? Die afrigter van Walvisbaai, Gawin Esterhuizen het dit vandeesweek gesê: “Ons benader die wedstryd soos enige ander wedstryd. Dit is net nog 'n wedstryd wat deur enige span gewen kan word. Dit is ons eerste semi-finale in hierdie gesogte liga en ons sal graag wil wys wat in ons steek. Die spelers is gemotiveerd en slaggereed vir die wedstryd. Die voorbereiding was goed en die spelers se gemoedere loop hoog vir aksie. UNAM is die gunsteling om in die finaal te speel, maar ons gaan dit nie maklik maak nie. Dit is al baie bewys dat die gunstelinge ook kan verloor”. Die afrigter van
UNAM, Johan Diergaardt, het by navraag so oor sy span se kanse gereageer: “Ons isl baie bly en
dankbaar. Vir ons is dit 'n groot voorreg om weer deel van die halfeindronde te wees.
Ons gaan om die tagtig minute van rugby te geniet, en ons weet waartoe ons in staat is. Ons verwag 'n harde wedstryd. Dinge sal vir ons in plek val, ten spyte daarvan dat agt van ons gereelde eerstespanspelers nie môre speel nie.
· Wat ook die wedstryd môre soveel meer spesiaal gaan maak, is die tweeling broers Cameron en Chris Klassen teen mekaar gaan speel. Chris is die kaptein
en haker van Walvisbaai en Cameron is die skrum skakel van UNAM. In die ander semifinal spook FNB Western Suburbs en
FNB Wanders ook sake môre op die Hage Geingob stadion uit. Die wedstryd sal op NBC gebeeldsend word.

Cameron Klassen het vandeesweek aan namib times gesê dat dit die eerste keer is dat hy en sy broer as opponente teen mekaar gaan uitdraf op so ‘n hoë vlak wedstryd. Oor môre se wedstryd sê hy: “Ek persoonlik dink dat dit een van ons hardste wedstryde tot op datum gaan wees. Wanderers was die span wat ons tot die uiterste beproef het. Al het ons daardie wedstryd gewen is dit nou ‘n heel ander saak. Dit is nou die halfeindstryd en niks anders maak meer saak nie. ‘n Wen is alles en daar is net een kans. Ons gaan Walvisbaai Rugby Klub nie onderskat nie, maar ons skuld hulle een. Hulle het die laaste ligawedstryd besluit om nie te speel nie, en het hulle ligapunte vir daardie wedstryd afgestaan. Ek wens Walvisbaai Rugby Klub alle sterkte toe. Ek is beïndruk met wat hulle tot dusver bereik het. Dit is nou hul tweede jaar in die Premierliga.”
Chris Klassen sê: “Dit is ‘n groot eer en lekker om teen my broer Cameron te kan speel. Dit is nie eintlik ‘n geleentheid wat elke dag opduik nie. Cameron sal soos altyd alles gee, maar ek gaan ook my alles in die wedstryd gee. Ons gaan nie terughou nie. Op die rugbyveld maak dit nie saak of jy my broer, familie of vriend is nie. Jy is ‘n opponent en ek moet hard werk sodat my span as die wenner kan wegstap. Hy voel ook so oor die saak. Na die wedstryd gaan ons lekker saam kuier. Ek is baie trots op hom, vir wat hy in hierdie twee jaar bereik het.” Chris het die volgende oor die wedstyd te sê gehad: “Dit gaan ‘n grote wees. UNAM het iets om te bewys. Hulle wil baie graag die Premierliga vir die derde agtereenvolgend keer wil wen. Ons is gereed vir die aksie. So maklik gaan dit nie vir hulle wees nie.”
