The Roads Authority of Namibia (RA) is taking action to address safety concerns surrounding the Swakop River Bridge after the theft of its metal railings left the structure an eye-sore and a concern for traffic safety. Large segments of the metal railings were stolen, particularly during the lockdown period, prompting the RA to remove the remaining railings to prevent further theft and damage. In an interview with Namib Times, Hileni Fillemon, Manager of Corporate Communication at the RA, confirmed that a comprehensive assessment of the bridge is currently
underway. This evaluation is part of the RA's plan to rehabilitate the bridge and restore its safety and appearance. "We are currently assessing the bridge for rehabilitation, which will include the installation of new railings," Fillemon said. "We are considering concrete railings or other materials that cannot be removed and sold for scrap, as metal theft has
become a growing issue." The Roads Authority's assessment is expected to be completed during this financial year, with the hope that rehabilitation will commence next year. The goal is to implement more durable solutions that will not only restore the bridge's structural integrity but also deter future theft. The theft of the metal Continues on page 2
RedForce to Continue Debt Collection

The High Court of Namibia, in a settlement agreement signed on 10 and 12 September this year by RedForce Debt Management CC and the Walvis Bay Municipal Council stated that both parties have arrived at an agreement to settle the matter without further legal steps to be taken and agreed that the matter be removed from the court roll and be regarded as finalised. This after the contract between RedForce Municipaly of Walvis Bay was terminated on 23 April this year, upon which RedForce filed an urgent application in the Windhoek High Court to stop the termination of its contract to collect debt owed by ratepayers to the municipality. According to the settlement agreement the Walvis Bay Municipal
Council and RedForce agreed to endure on the same terms and conditions as if it was never terminated and in the case of any rights that may have been impaired or otherwise adversely affected due to the termination, such rights shall be immediately restored.
