The identity of the alleged serial rapist was revealed as Namport Marine Pilot Alexander Krylov (56), when he made his first appearance in court on Thursday morning. Krylov, a Russian national, was arrested on Wednesday, after Nampol had been hot on his heels not long after the matter was reported to the police. After spending the evening in custody, Krylov appeared before Magistrate John Sindano on charges of rape, trafficking in persons and enticing a girl under sixteen to commit an immoral act. Magistrate Sindano ordered Krylov to be examined by a medical professional and be returned to court immediately, as he suddenly felt ill while seated in the accused

bench. While leaving the court in custody, Krylov, who seemed to be fine the morning could barely walk. Krylov stands accused of sexually assaulting five minor girls; he would apparently pick them up in Kuisebmond and take them to an apartment where he would then have sex with them and perform various sexual acts with them. The girls, three of whom are 16-years-old and two being 15-years-old, are pupils ranging from Gr. 6 to Gr. 9; though two are currently not enrolled in school. Reliable sources have confirmed to namib

times that this is in fact not Krylov's first rodeo, he was allegedly linked to a similar matter in Lüderitz many years back, though was not prosecuted but instead transferred to Walvis Bay. Krylov was also charged with kidnapping in 2008 when he was found with four minor girls he had picked up in Kuisebmond without their parents' consent. He was released on N$1 000 bail regarding this matter and in 2009 the charge against him was withdrawn. A separate charge of assault was laid against Krylov as well, this charge was also withdrawn.

Or worse: Some anglers threw the guts against the restaurant door and even defecated on the jetty. "I have it all on CCTV footage". Liebenberg challenged. Initially he called in a security company to defuse the situation, but the fishermen blatantly refused to leave the jetty. "During one incident the police was called in, and initially the police officers wanted to arrest the security guards saying that the fishermen were abiding by the law", he explained. It was thereafter that Liebenberg, by chance, heard about the by-law, prohibiting fishing on the jetty altogether. Shortly afterwards, a meeting was held at the municipality regarding the above, where even municipal officials admitted to not being aware of the existence of this by-law, even though it is freely available on the municipality's website. A second, follow-up meeting was held yesterday. Liebenberg has in the meantime set-up "no fishing" signs on the jetty – much to the dismay of regular fishermen, who do behave, some are subsistence anglers. "You cannot enforce the law for only some people. Laws apply to everybody", he added. The municipal traffic department, mandated as general law-enforcement officers in Swakopmund, should monitor the jetty and enforce the by-law. Since the above was discovered, various other, ancient municipal by-laws also popped up which are similarly being overlooked: ·One by-law states that no angling whatsoever is allowed from the jetty up to Vineta point. ·Another by-law prohibits hawking anywhere in Swakopmund, except at designated areas. This would make the activity of all so-called Makalani sellers illegal.

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Natangwe Ithete, has called upon disabled people in Namibia to involve themselves in all government activities, to help build up the country. Ithete made these remarks at the Commemoration of the International White Cane day, held at Swakopmund yesterday [19 October]. The commemoration formed part of the African Union of the Blind Southern Regional Conference, which was hosted by the Office of the Governor in collaboration with the Namibian Federation of the Visually Impaired (NFVI). The conference was held from 16 to 18 October. The International White Cane Day was celebrated yesterday with a march ending at the Vineta Sport Fields, where various speeches were delivered and cultural activities held."In my definition you (people living with disabilities) are able, just in a different way", explained Ithete. Ithete was speaking on behalf of the deputy minister responsible for disability affairs in the Presidency, Alexia Manombe-Ncube [MP].”You (disabled persons) should never regard yourselves as unable people. You are all able", Ithete continued. He called on all disabled people to not exclude themselves from Government decisions, as they are equal to every Namibian. “You have equal rights and it is about time that you get into all structures of our country. Stop excluding yourselves, as Government is ready to support all of you", he added. "We also need your assistance, we need your ideas to move this country forward. "Speaking at the event the Secretary General of the Swapo Party Youth League, Efraim Nekongo, expressed his concern about visually impaired persons "not advocating our issues." "There are a lot of challenges facing ourselves, but I don't see colleagues advocating for that (sic)", he said. He too called on visually impaired citizens to include themselves in all activities. "I don't like people isolating people."

Street vendors made a dash when they saw the police - many are illegal immigrants Sharlien Tjambari

Several street hawkers in Swakopmund, who were operating on various street corners and pavements especially in Mondesa, have abandoned their business establishments over the past two weeks. This follows after the Namibian Police carried out an anti-crime operation during which many of the hawkers were arrested for various alleged crimes. It was understood many of the hawkers are allegedly illegal immigrants and/or carry out business activities without valid local authority permits. Most of these people have been operating for many years without any interference by either the Council or the police. These residents would usually set up their small businesses anywhere on a pavement without permission from Council – that is over now and they can no longer go back to their establishments. An official from the Swakopmund municipality confirmed to namib times this week all street hawkers were operating illegally and had no right to be there. Nampol Regional Commander Commissioner Andreas Nelumbu confirmed to the media this week that an anti-crime operation was carried out by the police. "We carried out a general operation about two weeks ago. We did not specifically target

street hawkers, but we were looking at all criminal activities around Swakopmund. It is clear that some street hawkers were approached by police officers and out of fear most of them ran away", Nelumbo explained. He added that many of them were arrested because they were illegal immigrants. Nelumbu however could not reveal the number of illegal immigrants who were arrested. He said most of the illegal immigrants arrested were street hawkers as they make a living selling various imported goods. A source who witnessed the operation said to the newspaper: "We just saw police officers stopping at a business establishment and the officers demanded to see the person's identification document. The next thing we saw was the guy being arrested. Another street hawker whose stand was next door just ran away and he has not returned since. He didn't even take his goods along. We do not know what is going on".

An accident scene was found abandoned by the driver and possible occupants of a vehicle that veered off the road and hit a palm tree at around 03:00 on Tuesday morning. The accident was on the B2 coastal road close to Walvis Bay. Morning commuters were baffled by the scene of this badly damaged, lone vehicle and no person near it to be seen. The exact reason the driver lost control of the vehicle is unclear. Equally, whether anyone got hurt in the vehicle when it hit the palm tree is also unknown. The fact that the palm tree was uprooted as a result of the impact is an indication high speed might have caused this accident.

Two year old’s death not murder - autopsy report Piquet Jacobs

The death of a two-year-old girl in Kuisebmond last Thursday sparked a wave of rumours and speculations regarding what caused the child's death. Many were pointing fingers to the mother for allegedly beating the child. An autopsy in the meantime confirmed the child died of a natural cause and no injuries were found that could even point the slightest finger to abuse and any substance to the allegations. Nampol confirmed the girl's cause of death as natural, after receiving the autopsy results on Monday. The police initially investigated the matter as murder, due to the information alleging that the woman and her boyfriend had been quarrelling and when he left she apparently beat the child causing her death. Investigating officers immediately stepped back when it was found the girl had in fact not died at the hands of her mother or anyone else; to avoid causing the grieving family even more pain which has escalated since the rumours had started doing its rounds. A senior police official said although the public's assistance with regard to information on crime incidents and the whereabouts of criminals are crucial, it is also unfortunate that in other instances rumour mongering causes confusion, unfounded anger, loss of value time to investigate crimes and most importantly pain to the loved ones of the person who passed away.

Philanthropist Ekandjo Keeps Giving, with an early Christmas gift to Senior Citizens of Okombahe

Early Christmas ululations and gratitude's of joys came earlier for the residents of the settlement of Okombahe, when well-known corporate executive and philanthropist Tim Ekandjo, spoiled the elderly residents of the sleepy village when he distributed food hampers to the value of N$110 000 to over 260 households. Accompanied by his family, Tim Ekandjo on Wednesday 12 October 2017, handed over 260 food parcels to the elderly community of Okombahe in the Daures Constituency. The handover event took place at the Okombahe

Community Hall and was attended by the vulnerable elderly recipients, Councilor K. !Haoseb, Ms /Goagoses, Former Chief Regional Officer of Erongo, Hafeni Ndemula, Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council and Mr Abed Ganaseb, Chairperson of Elders in

Okombahe Branch. “Having been a student at Martin Luther High School brings back very fond memories of Okombahe because we regarded Okombahe as our capital city after Omaruru. I have not visited Okombahe since 1997 when I matriculated from MLH, and I wanted to do something special for the elders" said Ekandjo during the handover ceremony. Ekandjo continued: "sometimes God blesses us with favour, and positions us in such a way that we are blessed with resources not always meant for us. I came back here after 20 years to share the little I have been blessed with, with you, and being back here today reminds me of where I come from, and the important chapter this part of the world played in my upbringing. We must always remain respectful to our elders, and today I do not want you to thank me for sharing my blessing, but I want to thank you for being willing to accept it and thank the almighty God for using me in the manner he does today" Ekandjo also said: "It is amazing to come back, years after I completed my high school here in the area, to notice that the community elders lovingly still hold the place dear to their hearts, in fact if need be I am calling on all my fellow MLH Alumni to pull efforts together to give back to the communities in the surrounding, because it was their love and nurture of this many elders that kept us going – despite us being hundreds of kilometres away from our homes. This elders were our parents during those years and deserve better". The jovial handing over ceremony was also celebratory in nature, besides the food hampers worth N$280 each, the villages elders were also treated to a sumptuous braai – as a cow was slaughter to ensure that the festivities reverberate throughout the entire settlement. In his remarks, Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council, Hafeni Ndemula said: "I would like to thank Tim Ekandjo, for not forgetting his community of Okombahe, for coming back to plough back and help the elders in the month of International Elders Month. Okombahe and the Daures constituency is one of the poorest, and donations of this kind helps the community. Harambee does not only call on government to assist, but also individuals".One of the elders who received a food parcel could not contain her joy, "times are really hard and food is expensive, we are so grateful for this present from this young man, we really enjoyed ourselves today with the meat and the food and still went home with a parcel of food that will keep us going for the next 2 months at least, may the Lord bless you and your family to replenish for what you have so graciously gave to us" she said. The celebrations were followed by entertainment by local cultural groups. Amongst the invited guest were; Chief Immanuel /Gâseb -! Oe-≠ Gân Traditional Authority, Councilor K. !Haoseb – Councilor of Daures Constituency, Ms. Nathalia /Gôagoses – Former CRO of Erongo Regional Council, Pastor !Nowaseb, Police Station Commander – Okombahe, and principals from Dibasen Junior Secondary, Martin Luther High School and Willem Borchard Primary Schools respectively. The ceremony was attended by over 300 people. The investment is estimated at N$110,000.

The Afrikaans grade 7 learners of Namib Primary School (NPS) were recently addressed by Swakopmund's Deputy Mayor, Councillor Maria Elago. The event took place at the school on Friday, 13 October. Elago, who holds a Bachelor Degree in Community and Health Service Management, went to the school with the aim of sharing her knowledge about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immu-ne D eficiency Syndrome (AIDS). She talked to the grade 7 learners, who have Afrikaans as a first language at the Namib Primary School. As Friday was a normal school day, the learners went to the school hall in their respective class groups and each class received an educational s e s s i o n o n HIV/AIDS, the different ways of contracting the virus and ways of p r e v e n t i n g HIV/Aids. E l a g o a l s o discussed other types of sexually transmitted diseases (STD's); teenage

pregnancy; how to live a healthy lifestyle even when infected with HIV; eating right a n d t a k i n g Antiretroviral medication daily. The Deputy Mayor was invited to school by the Afrikaans teacher Mrs Vries. Vries said the main reason why she invited Elago was she reali-sed her learners had difficulty with e x p r e s s i n g themselves in Afrikaans when it comes to the topic of HIV/AIDS. "I noticed that they had less knowledge on HIV/AIDS and they also do not know how to translate words related to HIV/AIDS from English to Afrikaans. They only know the English terms. They also have difficul-ties in expressing themselves in Afrikaans when it comes to issues surrounding HIV/AIDS. That is what motivated me to call on Council-lor

Technology advances require from Namibians to re-skill and upskill Swakopmund uses about 25 million shopping bags annually An estimated 25 million plastic shopping bags are used by consumers in Swakopmund annually - most end up on the landfill. In an effort to reduce this immense waste the town council is preparing a levy system whereby retailers charge a levy to shoppers for plastic bags. The income generated from the levies is earmarked for an environmental fund. This might come into operation by early 2018.The figure about shopping bag usage in Swakopmund was revealed last Wednesday by Jaco Venter, the managing director of Plastic Packaging Namibia. That was during a consultative meeting with retailers and other stakeholders the municipality organised in lieu of a by-law that is now prepared to enable retailers to charge the public for shopping bags. Namibia's dropped by six places on the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report (2017-2018) from 84th place to 90th place [out of 137 countries). NIMT offers “struggle kids� a new lease on life Thanks to the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) about 240 struggle kids have opportunities to further their skills. They now have prospects of landing a job and to start a career. Benguella vier 20ste verjaarsdag! Benguella Slaghuis was die afgelope twee dekades 'n steunpilaar in die Tamariskia-gemeenskap van Swakopmund en vier hierdie maand sy 20ste bestaansjaar. In 1997 het Meatco al hul slaghuise verkoop en Gregory Benjamin beter bekend as Greg, wat dan toe streeksbestuurder was, het toe die slaghuis gekoop wat hy jare lank by gewerk en bestuur het. Dis die einste slaghuis wat dan Benguella Slaghuis geword het, wat ons almal vandag ken. Daar was destyds 12 werknemers wat deur Meatco afgedank is. Hy het al 12 by Benguella Slaghuis aangestel. ‘n Getal wat gegroei het na 36 werknemers vandag. Gregory Benjamin is gebore en het grootgeword in Elsiesrivier, Kaapstad. Hy het in 1978 na Walvisbaai verhuis toe hy 21 jaar oud was. Hy het 6 maande lank op 'n plaas gewerk, en naweke in die kroeg, drankwinkel of nagklub van Kassie en Harry Van Reenen gewerk. Hy het toe sy vrou ontmoet, en hulle het twee kinders, 'n dogter en ‘n seun in die lewe gebring. Albei werk vandag in die besigheid. Greg het oorspronklik by die Van Reenen familie slaghuis begin werk. In 1981 het die familie 'n slaghuis in Swakopmund geopen en het hy vir 2 jaar daar gewerk. Hier het hy in die winkel gewoon en geslaap, aangesien daar geen ander verblyf was nie. Die slaghuis is later verkoop aan Karoo Vleis. Karoo Vleis se naam is later toe verander na Swavleis, waar hy steeds as algemene werker aangebly het. Swavleis het hul kleinhandelsname na Bonanza verander. Bonanza verander 10 jaar later na Meatco. Hier is hy bevorder tot die bestuurder van die winkel in Tamariskia. Sy winkel was die mees winsgewende van al Meatco se kleinhandelwinkels regoor die land. Hy is later vanaf 1996 tot 1998 as gebiedsbestuurder aangestel. Benguella Slaghuis bestaan vandag uit 'n fabriek en maak hul eie viennas, russians en polonies elke dag. Hulle bedien tans verskeie besighede in Swakopmund, Walvisbaai, Windhoek en Rehoboth. En het ook ‘n kleinhandel winkel op dieselfde perseel in Vrede Rede Straat, Tamariskia. Op 60 jaar oud bestee Greg baie minder tyd aan die besigheid wat hy deur harde werk en vasberadenheid gebou het. Hy het sy kinders en jarelange personeel wat kyk na die belange, en die besigheid groei. Iets wat sy kleinkinders ook van kan baat eendag. Greg sê: "Ons bied ons kliënte goeie pryse aan en persoonlike, vriendelike diens. Ons is sentraal geleë en het elke maand goeie spesiale aanbiedinge. Ons produkte is vars en ons maak dit self. Dankie aan al ons kliënte vir die betroubare ondersteuning oor die afgelope 36 jaar waarvan ek deel is van die gemeenskap van Swakopmund, en ook ons kliënte so ver soos Rehoboth. Benguella Slaghuis sal voort gaan om diens te verbeter en om te voorsien dat ons die beste gehalte vleis en vleisprodukte aan ons kliënte beskikbaar maak.”

Also schnell Ersatzchip aus der Fototasche, vollen Chip verpackt, neuen Chip in den Apparat und: da lag sie immer noch, jetzt mit leicht gespreiztem Nacken. Puhh, da haben wir aber wirklich nochmals ganz großes Glück gehabt. Sie sah in dem Fahrzeug keinen Feind, sonst hätte sie sich aufgerichtet oder wäre abgehauen. So war sie wohl wegen der Vibration des Bodens durch den laufenden Motor etwas irritiert und so wie wir „neugierig“ auf der Stelle geblieben. Andra Cilliers tours Namibia

The passionate and ever evolving Andra Cilliers will be coming back to her roots, as she debuts her new album here in Namibia. An album she describes as “something special”. Andra is originally from Namibia and grew up in Swakopmund, but moved to Pretoria almost 10 years ago to pursue her passion for music. She has since recorded two solo albums, which has received fantastic reviews, quoted from Sound Click website “The emotional depth of her song-writing combined with her fluid, soulful singing emphasises her eloquent lyrics, expressive voice and openhearted sense of simplicity and directness. Think Eddie Vedder having coffee with Alanis Morisette as Jeff Buckley interrupts to introduce a young Marianne Faithful.” Andra has done a considerable amount of tours South Africa, Namibia and Botswana; as well as all-embracing performances at major South African festivals such as Oppikoppi, KKNK, Aardklop, and the list continues. Andra has also tackled a successful tour to

Belgium, and has been invited to tour America as well as Europe, not to mention her song “Fall too Slow” being chosen for a TV commercial for American based communication company AT&T. Music took grip of Andra at a very young age, as she grew up in a home constantly filled with music. This encouraged Andra to follow her musical beating heart; she started as a guitarist and songwriter before she started singing. Her music is inspired by 'any sound' which points out her diversity when it comes to the music industry; she does not confine herself. When asked where she sees herself within the next 5 years, she stated she is a 'now' person and living in the moment; something you can truly feel through her music. Andra has launched her tour in Windhoek on 17 October and will be performing in Otjiwarongo, Omaruru and Swakopmund.

Bicentenary Celebration of the birth of Bahá'u'lláh

The Shrine of Bahá'u'lláh, near Haifa, Israel Over six million Bahá'ís in some 100,000 localities worldwide are preparing to celebrate, on October 21/22, the bicentennial of the birth of Bahá'u'lláh, Founder of the Bahá'í Faith whose Arabic name means “Glory of God”. The global festivities will involve people of hundreds of cultures and ethnic backgrounds, demonstrating the pivotal message of Bahá'u'lláh's teachings: the time has arrived for the entire human race to establish a world commonwealth based on its spiritual unity. The Bahá'í writings explain: “In cycles gone by… the unity of all mankind could not have been achieved. Continents remained widely divided... In this day, however, means of communication have multiplied, and the five continents of the earth have virtually merged into one... Hence the unity of all mankind can in this day be achieved. Verily, this is none other but one of the wonders of this wondrous age...” Bahá'u'lláh's guidance, contained in letters and books spanning over 100 volumes, will usher in an age of unity, while respecting and cherishing the diversity of mankind's cultures. The Bahá'í Faith will forge unity because its core principles uphold that all religions are, in essence one, originating from one God, acknowledging humankind as one family. Bahá'u'lláh reconfirmed the moral teachings of the world's great religions and commanded His followers to be law-abiding citizens, who practice rectitude of conduct in all their private affairs. In addition, Bahá'u'lláh wrote on societal and global issues that are highly relevant today, such as statesmanship, science, collective security, the role of the media, world language, the economy, medicine, the environment, global governance, agriculture, education and many others. The Bahá'í Faith was introduced to Namibia in the early 1950s, at a time of great disunity in the country. While interaction between black and white people was restricted by apartheid, adherents quietly promoted the principle of the unity of peoples. Despite the difficult circumstances, the first Bahá'í to enter the country, an Englishman named Ted Cardell, was able to share the Faith's teachings with a few people and enrolled Hilifa Nekundi, the first Namibian Bahá'í, in 1956. Vigilance was necessary when Bahá'ís met in the early days; gatherings of blacks and whites were risky for parti-cipants and, if observed, reprisals would have occurred. Following independence, the Bahá'í community continued to grow gradually, primarily enrolling Namibians in the area of the capital and the north central region. The Faith does not ordain clergy to organise activities, but relies on assemblies elected from its adult population. The rate of growth has increased as the generation of Namibians who never experienced the restrictions of segregation grows to maturity. NASP Championship WBPHS On Saturday, 14 October 2017, WBPHS hosted their second NASP Championship with 135 children entered for the competition with 17 School, Clubs and Organizations participated. The day started off with Pastor Peet Poggenpoel opening with scripture and prayer. There after an opening shoot followed by Daniel Nell a grade 2 learner from Pro – Ed Academy. He wants to show every child that this is a very interesting sport to compete in and that you can start very early in this program. He also mentioned that with his handicap of only one working eye, everything is possible if you set your mind to it and that he would love for his school Pro-Ed Academy to have Archery as a sport at the school. The formal competition followed on two rounds of bull's eye and one round on 2d targets during the day with the wind not making it easy. At four o'clock the archers were done and looked at the adults competing. This was fun for everyone although the battle with the wind continued. When finished everyone awaited the results of the day. The prizegiving started with prizes to encourage the top 50 archers who improved their personal best score on Bull's Eye, to keep practicing hard every day. The medals winners were. Most Improved Junior Girl; Angela Martin Most Improved Senior girl; Carmen Hellmann Junior Most Improved Boy; Alexander Abrahams Senior Most Improved Boy; Timon Peterson Alexander Abrahams won the prize for biggest difference in improving his Bull's Eye score. A Top Grade 4 Archer reward was handed out for children who just started with archery to encourage them to continue this sport. Nathan Volek, Michael Raad and Nicolas Roux were rewarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in this regard. Grade 7 Archers got a turn to be rewarded and remind them that although they are finishing with their primary school years they can continue with archery in the high school as a sport. Denzel Nanub, Gerhard Koen and Christiaan Huisamen were rewarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. F.P. Scholtz, Dominique Bekker and Melany Erasmus stood out as Top Performing grade 11 archers and with this prize they were encouraged to continue with archery next year in grade 12 in their busy schedule then. The current Namibian Record is 297 out of 300. Three learners were rewarded for chasing this achievement. Wian Lottering were the nearest to the record, then Pieter Hough second and Hennie Nelin third place. This year sportsmanship on and off the field were also rewarded. Corelie Coetzee (girl) and Dandre Rivas (boy) were chosen. Top Team Leader for the day was Lukas Els Jnr. For the first time, a floating trophee was handed out to the Most Improved Special Needs Child in the championship went to Dandre Rivas. We are all very proud of your hard work. During the day, many children scored a 50 and were awarded accordingly with a little trophee. With 17 kids in total just goes to show hard work pays off. Finally, the normal prizes started. Top Junior Boy (Bull's Eye) was rewarded to Albert Gamatham, De Wet van Niekerk in second place and Wian van Zyl third. Top Senior Boy (Bull's Eye) was Pieter Hough, Wian Lottering and then F.P. Scholtz. Top Junior Girl (Bull's Eye) was Anrika van Zyl, Angela Martin and Jomari Campbell. Top Senior Girl (Bull's Eye) was Melany Erasmus, Dominique Bekker and Leonise Human. 2D prizes were next. Top 2D Junior Boy was Denzel Nanub, Gerhard Koen and Keanu van Vuuren with the 2D Senior Boy Diwan Engelbrecht, F.P. Scholtz and Pieter Hough. The girl's 2D junior prize was awarded to Jomari Cambell, Angela Martin and Anrika van Zyl where the senior 2D Girl was Dominique Bekker, Melany Erasmus and Leonise Human.

Best scores for Bull's Eye and 2D were added together. Top Performing Boy overall was Pieter Hough, F.P. Scholtz and Wian Lottering. The Top Performing girl for the day was Dominique Bekker, Melany Erasmus and Leonise Human. Teams were chosen and the Top Junior Team was Danie Joubert, then Community of Hope School and in third place Elnatan. Top Senior Team was WBPHS, Elnatan and again a team from WBPHS. Top Mixed Team was a Community of Hope and WBPHS combination, then a combination of Berg – Op Academy and three other schools. In third place, another team combination of Community of Hope School and WBPHS entered. Top Performing School Floating Trophies were handed out to WBPHS, then Community of Hope School and in third place Danie Joubert. Mrs. E. Eigelaar, principal of WBPHS rewarded their 2 matric archers Danie Bachmann and Kate – Lynn van Zyl with a go – away present. They can continue with the AAG (Adult Archery Group) in future should they want to. That brings us to the Adults (Men and Women) who competed in this Championship. In first place for the men were Lukas Els Snr., then Corrie van der Merwe and Louis Peters. The Women was Chantelle Els, Louisa Campbell and Hilma Kambonde. At the end of the day each child received a participation certificate, a Spur voucher and a Coke goodie bag. 2017 Pupkewitz Schools Gala The much anticipated annual Namibia Swimming Union (Nasu) Pupkewitz Schools Gala will be today (Friday 20 October) and tomorrow (Saturday 21October) at Windhoek (the Katutura 50m swimming pool), Swakopmund (the 25m indoor swimming pool) and Oranjemund. This Gala is Nasu's flagship development event with the Pupkewitz Foundation, by which Nasu takes swimming to the broader Namibian community. Without a sole dedicated, likeminded and kind sponsor like the Pupkewitz Foundation an initiative like this will just not be possible. The Pupkewitz Foundation and its CEO Ms Meryl Barry (daughter of the late Harold Pupkewitz, who himself had a lifelong commitment and interest in swimming) deserves special thanks for their contribution towards Nasu. This gala will be held at three venues on the same dates and times. A total of 745 athletes will compete at the various venues over this weekend. Schools are split into primary and secondary categories, which categories are counted separately to get to the combined number of schools that have entered. A Total of 36 schools have entered athletes. 23 schools in Windhoek have entered with a combined 501 athletes, 9 schools in Swakopmund have entered with a combined 109 athletes and 4 schools in Oranjemund have entered with a combined 135 athletes.

The much anticipated Namibia Premier league (NPL) makes a return to our shores on Friday as African Stars and Orlando Pirates opens the 2017/18 season under the floodlights of the majestic Sam Nujoma Stadium at 20h00. Following over a year in the doldrums, the people's weekend bread, the Namibia Premier league (NPL) was officially launched on Wednesday morning at the NBC Studios in Northern Industrial Area in Windhoek, with Namibia's sports chief benefactor MTC once again reaffirming their support with N$15 million for each of the coming three seasons. Another sponsor of the league will be First National Bank (FNB) Namibia, who chips in with N$5 million to ensure the long awaited people's game return to the stadiums from Rundu, Tsumeb, to Walvis Bay, Otjiwarongo to Gobabis and Oshakati to Windhoek as 16 NPL clubs battle it out for supremacy. "I am pleased to announce that MTC and FNB have finalised the negotiations to sponsor the NPL for the upcoming seasons that begins this week. Namibians can once again rally behind their favourite teams and settle into an invigorating season and cheer on their soccer heroes" said Mr Jerry Elago, FNB's Head of eBank. Head of Human Capital and Corporate Affairs at MTC Tim Ekandjo urged the new NPL Leaders to be transparent and accountable for all funds. He added that in the previous reign of Johnny Doeseb all cents were accounted for and he hopes the same will happen with the new leadership of the league. Ekandjo assured the nation that in the next three years the contribution from FNB will equal that of MTC's. Thus will double the quality of the league. Namibia Premier League Chairperson Patrick Kauta thanked the sponsors and added that the opportunity provided will help keep 480 youths in six towns off the streets and away from criminal activities. He also assured the sponsors that the league does not intend to use any of the money for purposes that is not budgeted for. Kauta added "the current executive were criticised for starting the league without sponsors but that was done to enable all 16 clubs to prepare in case sponsorship was

found. Doing it in any other manner would have been disingenuous and will have meant that the league will have started later. That would not have benefited anyone especially the players and the national team. It would have rebounded to no one's benefit. He further went on to say that to those clubs who say they had no time to prepare; everyone was informed on the 6th of September that the league will kick off on the 13th of October which makes it more than six weeks. "Be the men in the arena, it does not help for you to stay out of the arena and point out wrongs. We have had more than 13 months to do just that. That has come to an end. Join the party, if you don't do that the bus is leaving on the 20th gets on or stays behind". The kickoff of the NPL will allow the Brave Warriors technical team to tap into new players as preparations for the 2018 CAF African Nations Championships (CHAN) in Morocco continues. Responding to the launch of the 2017/18 Namibia Premier league season, Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti is glad the elite league in the country, primary players' supplier to the national team will kick off. "I'm happy to know that the league is launched and more so the players are happy because it is about them. It is their daily bread and of course for all Namibians that have been thirsty for league action", Mannetti states. He adds that the league will ensure that the current crop of players do not get complacent as they will be pushed for places in the team. "We have the players that we have been working with for the past years or so and led the team to CHAN but now the league will ensure that they don't get too comfortable and rest on their laurels as they will know they can be replaced. They need to perform and those that are doing well in the league can be roped in at any time". The Brave Warriors will continue with their weekly training sessions, Mannetti says, with additional players to be brought in. "WE will reduce the amount of sessions and I plea with the coaches that we are not here to disrupt
