Oil spill enters the Walvis Bay lagoon The Minister of Tourism Pohamba Shifeta visited Walvis Bay over the weekend to inspect various sites along the coastal areas around the harbour town affected by a heavy fuel oil spill. Oil spill response workers have been battling an oil spill since 8 March. At first, only beach areas in the vicinity of Dolphin Beach were affected. However, over the weekend a floating oil slick entered the Walvis Bay lagoon. Minister Shifeta met with the Chief Executive Officer
of Namport Bisey Uirab and the CEO of the Walvis Bay municipality over the weekend to determine how these relevant authorities will see to the clean-up. Also to determine progress made with the investigation to establish from which ship or
vessel the heavy fuel oil spill originated. It is believed a passing ship dumped the heavy fuel oil. The floating heavy fuel oil was split by the current off Walvis Bay, according to the Minister who spoke to namib Continues on Page 2
Two Congolese refugees residing in Namibia arrested with cocaine at Swakomund The Namibain Police arrested two Congolese nationals in Swakopmund on Saturday during two separate anti-drug operations, netting cocaine valued at N$1500. What makes the arrest of these two foreigners so much more cumbersome is the fact both have refugee status and live at the Osire refugee camp northeast of Windhoek. Katende Mulumba Fiston (32) was arrested in Mondesa Extension 3 at around 07:30 on Saturday. That is after cocaine powder valued at
N$500 was found on his person. Tsibola Andre Francois (32) was also arrested at Extension 3, but he had cocaine powder to the value of N$1 000 in his possession.

Oil spill Continued from Page 1 times on Sunday. A part of the floating oil made landfall at Dolphin Beach and the remaining oil entered the Walvis Bay lagoon, driven by the north wind and the tide. On Sunday oil spill clean up crews concentrated on the shoreline of the Walvis Bay lagoon, pouring "Biozorb" on the water surface. Biozorb in laymen's terms effectively clears all traces of oil out of the water and restores the natural balance of the water. As schools are in the mid-term break tomorrow (21 March) when Namibia's 28th Independence Celebrations take place, Tamariskia Primary School decided to light things up and host its celebrations on Friday. Learners had to dress up in traditional attires for the festivity and performed traditional dances. “We will not be together on Independence Day and this is why we chose to celebrate the day in advance”, explained Mrs Kooper, the Principal.

Teen (18) kills friend at Usakos A 17-year-old boy, Yassino Narib, died of a stab wound to the neck at Usakos early on Sunday morning. Narib was in a quarrel with an eighteen year old boy at around 02:00 on the Hakhaseb soccer field. It was here where it ended in tragedy. The Namibian Police confirmed the incident. The police were called to the scene. The alleged killer was nowhere to be found. Members of the Police followed up information and the eighteen year old was arrested a short while later. The body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary and a post mortem will determine whether indeed Narib's death was caused by the stab wound inflicted. The accused appeared in the Usakos magistrate's court yesterday. At the time of going to press his name was yet to be made public.
The town of Usakos has a very small and close knit community. The killing of Narib early on Sunday morning not only leaves the community in mourning, but many are asking themselves: what is wrong in our midst that an eighteen year old can resolve to deadly violence.

Tamariskia Primary school’s toilet facilities in dire situation Sharlien Tjambari
Blocked drains, filthy toilets and urine on the floors are the norm at most government schools in Swakopmund. Specifically Tamariskia Primary School, which has been battling with overcrowding as the school has to accommodate more learners than what its infrastructure can handle. The Principal of Tamariskia Primary School, Mrs. Kooper, said recently the source of the problem is straightforward: the school does not have enough toilet facilities for the growing number of learners. The school only has five toilet blocks and in each block is up to six toilets. Different Grades use the different toilet blocks. Although it means the school has between 30
and 40 toilets, many of the blocks have no wash basins and those blocks that have wash basins cannot use it, as it is broken. Water often floods the floors and many of the toilet bowls leak, increasing the hygiene risk. "The Ministry of Works takes its time when we need repairs", explained Kooper. Adding the school often has to battle sewerage blockages which only aggravate the situation.
One man takes the challenge to keep the ablution blocks clean A resident of Swakopmund, Mr Beukes, took notice of this threatening hygiene situation and is now dedicating his time to keep the ablution blocks at Tamariskia Primary School clean. Beukes does not have children enrolled at the school, but feels that is his way to provide hope in this dire situation. According to Beukes, Hepatitis E remains a high risk in environments such as unhygienic sanitary conditions. "The first time I visited the school, a friend of mine informed me about the broken drain and the filth that was on the school premises", said Beukes. He said no one had asked him to fix the pipes or clean the toilets. "I took my tools and started fixing the pipes. After that, I came to the school on a weekend and cleaned the boys toilets and fixed some toilet pots, I used the cleaning materials which he school has", said Beukes. According to Beukes, the school's toilet facilities need a lot of attention and it would be nice if the community, the
parents and anyone else who is willing to help, stand up and work together to improve the situation at Tamariskia Primary School. That includes all the other government owned school, which needs similar assistance. “Your home might be clean, but what if there are unhygienic conditions at the school your child attends?" Beukes emphasised the importance for parents to get involved in critical issues like these. Adding children should be taught at a young age to use toilet facilities in such a way that it stays clean and children should learn the importance to look after toilet facilities by avoiding vandalism and to appreciate a clean and functional ablution facility.

Prevent Crime donates 20%
Prevent Crime is a small company that was founded by Mr Conrad Saulze. The company sells emergency stickers within the Erongo region. 20% of the earnings go to old age homes in the region.

In December 2017, Prevent Crime donated 20% of the sticker sales to the old age home in Kuisebmond for exercise equipment. Mr Conrad Saulze, founder of Prevent Crime would like to thank the residents of Walvis Bay for their support in buying the emergency stickers. Prevent crime will be in Swakopmund and Henties Bay for the next two months where they will distribute the safety and emergency stickers accordingly. The stickers will be distributed at the schools. At the same time Prevent Crime wants to make the learners aware of the importance of these stickers. It is a sticker that you paste on a solid surface or fridge in your home. SFC Vikings emerged victorious The newly found SFC Vikings Rugby Club on Saturday emerged victorious against 2017 Premier League semi-finalists Walvis Bay Rugby Club by beating them 33-0 in a first division game at the SFC in Swakopmund.
Patience was key as SFC Vikings scored their first try in the left hand corner through fly-half Kyle Wentzel after well structured play; unfortunately the conversion shaved the uprights. Walvis Bay Rugby Club launched a huge attacking onslaught after the first Vikings try, but a dropped ball in their backline was stabbed through by Kyle Wentzel against the run of play which saw the young fly-half beat Walvis Bay players to run in his second try of the match. Just moments later in open play, big number 8 Martin Barnard broke the advantage line and gave an offload pass to fullback Lean Stoop who ran in his first try in Vikings colours from his own half. Unfortunately a blow to the head saw the speedster leave the field just before half time for a concussion test. In the second half Walvis Bay Rugby Club had most of the ball possession and did most of the attacking work but the Vikings defence stood their
ground. Unfortunately over eagerness on defence saw yellow cards for prop G J Oosthuizen and No 8 Martin Barnard for accidental high tackles. SFC Vikings Rugby Club patiently regained attacking form in the last 20 minutes resulting in two more tries through scrumhalf Pieter Lensing and replacement centre Lourens Barnard. "I'm really proud of the character the boys showed throughout the 80 minutes of play. Walvis Bay Rugby Club gave us a run for our money today, but I'm so proud of the way we handled the situation at hand as well as the patience we showed when things didn't go as planned. We have five youngsters that made their club rugby debuts and each and every one of them put up their hands and played massive games" "Our next game will be away from home against Dolphins this coming Saturday. Three lions from the land of the Brave Helge Schutz will launched his book 'Three lions from the land of the Brave' on Monday 26 March at 17h30 at the FNCC in Windhoek. The book is about a fascinating paths of three Namibian boxers, who through many trials and tribulations, triumphs and defeats, also tells a tale of sacrifice, extraordinary dedication and perseverance. This book follows the journey of three Namibian boxers who rose from humble beginnings to become champions of the world. Paulus 'The Hitman' Moses, Paulus 'The Rock' Ambunda and Julius 'Blue Machine' Indongo were all contemporaries and their paths first crossed during their amateur days at the beginning of the 21st century. They all excelled at amateur level, with Ambunda and Indongo going on to
represent Namibia at the Olympic Games, but it was as professional boxers that their careers really took off. They all joined the Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy of Nestor Tobias and swiftly rose through the ranks as they followed a similar path from national to continental champions, and from climbing up the world rankings to finally becoming world champions. Moses was the first to reach the pinnacle of a world title, in 2009, while Ambunda became a world champion in
2013 and Indongo in 2016. In between there were many trials and tribulations, and triumphs and defeats, while it is also a tale of sacrifice, extraordinary dedication and perseverance, and some remarkable comebacks. But it is also the story of Namibian boxing and the many other boxers who have excelled; the role that Tobias has played in developing professional boxing in Namibia; and the incredible raw talent that this country continues to produce.
Helge Schutz is a Namibian sport journalist and photographer who have won several awards in his chosen field. He has travelled the world and attended numerous international sporting events as a photo journalist, including the Olympic Games, the Fifa World Cup, the Rugby World Cup and the All Africa Games. He was the editor of the sport magazine, Namibia Sport, for more than 10 years and is currently a senior reporter at the daily newspaper, The
Namibian. A photographic exhi-
bition will allow visitors to retrace history of
these three Namibian icons in their field.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • To safely, effectively & efficiently operate the grader including accessory equipment and instrumentation; • To ensure haul roads, access roads, storage areas, pond walls and other are repaired and maintained for safe and efficient use; • Assist in recovering stranded light vehicles and other earth moving equipment; • To prepare crystallisers for harvesting, assist the harvest process by among other ripping new salt growth when required, level crystallisers after harvesting with minimum delay and assist with construction of roads, ponds and other areas; and • To determine monthly salt growth and crystallizer harvest volume.

SKW dominates first league round Media Release
The Bank Windhoek Fistball League commenced last weekend at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) fields. Current league champions SKW 1 proved to be formidable as they dominated the first league round. In Group A, four teams consisting of SKW 1, Cohen Fistball Club (CFC) 2, Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) and Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS) were in action. As the hosts, SKW took advantage of their home turf and convincingly beat the group stages, making it into the semi-finals. Surprisingly, SFC took the second spot after they defeated their fierce competitors CFC 2 and DTS by 2-1. CFC 2 finished third while DTS was ranked fourth after the group stages. In Group B, CFC 1 comfortably defeated SKW 2 with a final score line of 3-0. They also won another two matches against their counterparts CFC 3 and CFC 4. SKW 2 qualified for the semi-finals as the GreenWhites were victorious against CFC 3 with 2-1 and defeated CFC 4 3-0. A respectable victory was achieved by CFC 4 when they beat the newly formed Cohen 3 with a score of 2-1. Cohen 3 are yet to register a win. As a result, CFC 4 secured third place after the opening round, while Cohen 3 had to settle for fourth place. In the second round, CFC 2 played against their club mates CFC 3 and DTS faced CFC 4. These games proved to be the best out of three sets. CFC 2 beat Cohen 3 while DTS celebrated their first win of the day against CFC 4. In the semi-finals, the defending champions, SKW 1, battled it out with their reserve team, SKW 2 while CFC 1 played SFC. SKW 1 made many mistakes in the attack which allowed SKW 2 to remain in the game.
Nevertheless, the first set was won by SKW 1 who went on to win the second set as well. CFC 1 played consistently from defence to attack and left SFC in the second semi-final with little to no chance of victory. SKW 2 finally won the game against SFC, while CFC 3 again lost to their counterparts CFC 4. In the final, rivals SKW 1 and CFC 1 faced each other. SKW 1 kept a two-point lead in the first set. SKW 1 was even more determined and efficient in the second and third sets. The game ended 3 -0 in favour of SKW 1. The "Player of the Day" trophy was presented to the defender Olaf Gudehus of SFC. The next Bank Windhoek Fistball League takes place at the Cohen Fist ball Club in Windhoek on Saturday, 14 April 2018. Due to the heavy rains over the weekend, the placement matches for the third and fourth and seventh and eighth ranked teams, were interrupted during the second set. Legacy Trophy Night Legacy Promotions was the host of the first Legacy Trophy Night at the Dome in Swakopmund. International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa Junior Lightweight champion Albinius "Danny" Felesianu and President of Legacy Promotions were the master mind of Trophy Night together with The Dome Swakopmund, SEEFF Properties Marie and Wessel Esterhuysen. The aim of Trophy Night is to develop and promote young and talented boxers and have a chance to display their talent and give the locals a chance to see what they can do by giving them something special to remember. The Chief Operations Officer of Legacy Promotions Cindy Roberts said after the fights that "Our mission is to attract more youth to actively participate in one of Namibia's most successful codes, and to create young champions in life that can fulfil their broader potential, and even join our ranks and take the same successful path as Danny and many other successful Namibian
boxers." A total of 17 fights for both junior and senior amateur boxers from Walvis Bay and Swakopmund dished up the score card for the night with Delano MĂźller, Joseph Kauzuu, Josua Mwandi and Lesley !Hoaeb Delano MĂźller the 2016 and 2017 MTC Namibian Sport Commission (NSC) junior sportsman of the year defended his title that he won at the Desert Storm last year as he defeated his opponent, Touno Haipeto, on a unanimous point decision of their fight.
