Covid-19: businesses urged not to cut corners with latest legislation Business owners and the public are urged not to circumvent and exploit the current Covid-19 measures that came into force on Wednesday. In particular events- and venue operators as well as the legal arrangement around the selling of liquor. Venues for public gatherings: the new Covid-19 measures makes provision for venues to accommodate 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Namibia's justice minister Yvonne Dausab pointed out on Wednesday that does not mean 50 people inside the venue and a further 100 people outside. With the festive season on hand, the Namib Times will be closed for business as from Wednesday 23 December 2020, until Monday 4 January 2021. That includes both the Walvis Bay- and Swakopmund offices. The first edition for the new year will be on the street on Friday, 8 January 2021. During the period our offices are closed, news coverage of events and incidents will resume as normal. The public's attention is drawn to the newspaper's Facebook page where regular news updates will be conducted throughout the festive season.

Henties Bay gets own number plate Henties Bay officially has its own satellite office of the Namibian Traffic Information System (NaTIS). In addition, the town also has its own traffic registration number. The Natis office was unveiled on Monday and is seen as one of the signs that positive winds of change has started to blow for Henties Bay. Henties Bay prior fell under Natis Swakopmund. Hence all vehicles at this town have the “S” as part of the registration number, to indicate the Swakopmund registry authority. Henties Bay vehicles will now proudly carry the “HB” abbreviation on the number plates. Continues on page 2

If the venue is outdoors only, it would be able to accommodate 100 people at any point in time. Liquor sales: owners and managers of outlets that sell liquor cannot all operate on Sundays. Bars, nightclubs, casinos, and shebeens will only be allowed to sell liquor from Mondays to Saturdays. Only restaurants and hotels will be able to sell liquor on a Sunday as well.

The Henties Bay Municipality played a major role in bringing the registration authority to town. In fact, the municipality made a renovated building available for Natis as office space. It required renovations to the building which was carried out at a total cost of N$400 000. All NaTIS offices countrywide for an integrated traffic management system under the auspices of the Namibia Roads Authority. In his keynote address at the inauguration of the office, the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, urged vehicle owners at Henties Bay to have their vehicle registrations transferred from Swakopmund. That would mean if your traffic registration number was N123S it would then change to a registration number containing “N - HB” as the abbreviation for Henties Bay. The Deputy Minister also took the opportunity to warn vehicle owners at Henties Bay that the new NaTIS office will introduce an evil to town – fraudsters who are stealing people's money under the disguise of being registration agents. Arandis charcoal Continued from front page According to Mr Augustos, the phase two development of the charcoal processing plant will commence early in 2021. Once completed and at full production, the plant would have an output of up to 1 200 tons per month. The business procures charcoal in bulk from producers at various locations in Namibia. Charcoal is produced from bush encroachment species. At the plant at Arandis, the charcoal is graded into three sizes: small, medium and large. It is packed according to size. The residue, called “the fine” is produced into a substance from which briquettes are formed. The briquettes are also packed for export to Europe. Thanks to the constant drive of the Arandis local authority for manufacturing investment in the town and thanks to the innovation and the willingness of entrepreneurs like Mr Augustos, Arandis has advanced one more step into becoming a fully-fledged economic centre, diversified from its status as a mining town only.

Body of fisherman found The body was recovered of one of two fishermen that went missing in a skiboat accident near the boat slipway at the Platz am Meer shopping complex at Swakopmund on Wednesday. Three people, including the skipper survived the accident and managed to swim ashore. A search party located the missing man’s body just north of the shopping complex at 11:00 today. The search continues for the remaining missing person.

Gyro-copter crash A gyro-copter (ultra-light helictoper) crashed on the WindhoekHosea Kutako International Airport road early yesterday, killing one person and leaving one person critically injured. The name of the deceased has not been released at the time of going to press. Preliminary information indicates the injured is a Mr Pierre Blaauw, of Kuiseb Meat Traders in Windhoek. Coastal residents are anxiously awaiting for more news, as a video of the crash site went viral.

NBL cares about road safety With the festive season proven as a peak period for road accidents and fatalities on Namibian roads, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group and member of the Private Sector Road Safety Forum (PSRSF) – has re-affirmed its commitment to the national road safety campaign for the 2020 December holidays.

As an advocate of responsible alcohol consumption, and as a supporter of the 'Don't Drink and Drive' campaign for many years, to promote safer and accident-free roads in Namibia, NBL has sponsored the Namibia Police (NAMPOL) with 500 cases of its water brand, AquaSplash, to the value of N$ 78,000 for the officers that will be sta-tioned at roadblocks during the festive season. NBL Managing Director, Marco Wenk: “Besides the global COVID-19 pandemic that has greatly impacted our country in 2020, we have also been plagued by horrific and fatal road accidents this year, especially over the last few months. It is in this light that NBL is pleased to support once again those on the frontline of keeping our roads safe as this worthy cause and effort speaks directly to the O&L Group purpose, 'Creating a future, enhancing life.” Wenk urged Namibian motorists and holiday-makers to commit to a safe and accident-free festive season. “Let's play our part by being responsible whether in our decisions or actions. After all, and especially after such a challenging year, we owe it to ourselves and each other to enjoy a safe and pleasant holiday”, he concluded. 500 000 Namibians will receive first Covid-19 vaccinations Approximately 500 000 Namibians will be able to receive Covid19 vaccinations once the vaccine arrives to here. That represents 20 % of the nation, according to Namibian health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula. Namibia is one of five countries in Africa to be in line for the first Covid-19 vaccination. Dr Shangula further revealed on Wednesday during President Hage Geingob's national Covid-19 press briefing at State House in Windhoek that Namibia has signed a Committed Purchase Agreement (CPA) with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation that makes the country one of the first recipients of the vaccine. The total cost of 1 million dozes is approximately N$193 000 of which Namibia already paid the required 15 % The first delivery is a batch of approximately 508 200 vaccines and will be followed by another 508 200 vaccines to make up for the purchase of 1 million vaccines. Health workers and vulnerable people will be first in line to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Dr Shangula further explained the vaccination for Covid-19 will be rolled out across the country under the auspices of the country's Expanded Program of Immunisation (EPI). The Covid-19 vaccination must be administered in two dozes, with a predetermined interval. Note 1: at the briefing on Wednesday both the Head of State Dr Geingob and the health minister confirmed there is no definite date for the arrival of the vaccination. Both leaders urged Namibians not to get slack on Covid-19 prevention measures, as uncertainty surrounding the time period for the delivery of the vaccinations is no golden bullet out of the country's Covid-19 predicament yet.

the Cancer association and thought it would be a great show to take to the coast for a Christmas

treat. For the last 5 years, Rudd have been bringing shows to the coast. “It is a tradition for the

Playmakers and one of my most favorite things to do. I approached FNB and they loved the idea

and have sponsored the logistics of the show. It is innovative and classical”, said Rudd. According to Rudd, Galilei is one of Namibia's rising stars. A young man of great musical talent and tremendous charm. He is and will be a world class opera singer and a terrific ambassador for Namibia. Rudd further said: “Retha Louise is truly a world class piano player. She and I go back to first performing at the NTN over 38 years ago. It is a real treat for me to working with her again. Two incredible musicians sharing their talent in a beautiful heartfelt show of carefully chosen sacred Christmas songs”. Playmakers are doing two formal recitals this weekend, one at the International School in Walvis Bay at 19:00 on Saturday 19 December and one in Swakopmund at the Lutheran Church on Sunday 20 December. “We are also experimenting with several other free shows 'POP UP OPERA' in the informal sectors of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, this is a completely new experience for me. I am so excited to try it.”, said Rudd. POP UP theatre is like a mini flash mob with one performer. “Galilei and I will find a suitable location set up and he

will just perform. No one has ever done opera like this in Namibia before. I am most intrigued to do this experiment. Hopefully, someone watching will fall in love with opera singing and it may change their life forever”, stated Rudd. Watch this space!! For feedback to let you know how it went. MYO pupils gets scholarship for 2021 Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration (Pty) Ltd (RMR) secured scholarships for four learners at Mondesa Youth Opportunities (MYO) for the 2021 school year. RMR firmly believes in fostering early childhood development through educational support. For the past 17 years, MYO have been relying entirely on donations. Learners from underprivileged schools in Erongo region who show ability and promise benefit from an intensive after-school education program to reach higher education opportunities. Dr Katrin Kärner, the Exploration Manager of RMR, confirms RMR's commitment towards educational support. “We are pleased to support MYO to help young learners in several fields of academic education, sport development, leadership skills and to be good citizens of the future, especially during these challenging times. This scholarship will uplift the beneficiaries to realize their full academic potential.” The donation will cover fees for four students from Grade 5 in 2021. · Be cautious when a caller says he or she is calling from your bank. No bank will ask you to update or confirm confidential details over the phone or by email. · Never provide any personal and banking details to anyone for any reason, including account numbers, card numbers, Card Verification Value (CVV) numbers, usernames, passwords, and PINs, irrespective of the urgency stated; instead, call your bank immediately. · Do not click on links provided in unsolicited emails because you may activate hidden malware. · Use biometric identification and security if available. · If you receive a transaction notification or OTP on your phone, do not provide it to anyone. · Report unauthorised debit orders on your account to your bank immediately. · Independently verify payment details by phone with a supplier before transacting Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) payments to eliminate the risk of man-in-the-middle frauds. Huge displays at National Cricket Week Rudi Bowe

Cricket Namibia hosted a successful National School Week tournament whereby more than 200 top junior cricketers in the country from various cricket playing towns participated in the U11s, U13s, U16s and U19 age groups in a 50 Over competitive tournament.

The teams that participated were Coastal, Central, Northern and South East at the various cricket grounds in Windhoek, whilst the u13 boys played at the Sparta and Oval fields in Walvis Bay. The National week offered a golden opportunity to all players and to get a chance to test their level of readiness for bigger things. Cricket Namibia would like to thank APS and XCO Namibia for sponsoring the Cricket Namibia National School week as well as every parent, player, coaches and schools for being part of the schools week. The Coastal team won the u16 title with the u11 Coastal team end as runners up. Coastal players that received individual awarded for displaying good cricket thru out the week are William Lottering the best u16 batsman, scoring 138 runs off 103 balls, Junior Tanyanda the best u13 bowler as he took eight wickets and Ruan Boonzaaier the best u11 bowler as he took nine wickets. Buccaneers Closed Squash Championships Buccaneers squash club hosted their championships from 30 November to 4 December. They had 16 Men and 8 Ladies participants at their club in Walvis Bay. The play was fierce and competitive with the players vying for the top slots of the club. In the main event, Brandon Grane's game was on point,his talent and skills came to the fore, as he fought his way to the finals with an excellent 3-1 win against Emil Dorgeloh in the semis before taking out Angelo Titus in the final with a superb 3-1 win to become the Club's Champ for 2020. He lost out in the last couple club champ events so he made sure it was 3rd time lucky and he is definitely the player to beat next year. In 3rd place was Danie Greeff as he beat Emil Dorgeloh 3-0. The Ladies Cup was lifted by Chantel de Gouveia who still has the edge on the ladies in the port city as she took a comfortable 3-0 win against Carla Venter. Diana Meyer beat Lindsay Lottering 3-2 to claim 3rd place. The Men's Plate was taken by Leslie Bosman who beat Richard van der Meer 30. That wraps it up for 2020. Best wishes to all for the festive season and hoping that 2021 will be a much better year.
