An estimated 25 million plastic shopping bags are used by consumers in Swakopmund annually - most end up on the landfill. In an effort to reduce this immense waste the town council is preparing a levy system whereby retailers charge a levy to shoppers for plastic bags. The income generated from the levies is earmarked for an environmental fund. This might come into operation by early 2018. The figure about shopping bag usage in Swakopmund was revealed last Wednesday by Jaco Venter, the managing director
of Plastic Packaging Namibia. That was during a consultative meeting with retailers and other stakeholders the municipality organised in lieu of a by-law that is now prepared to enable retailers to charge the public for shopping bags. A dozen people attended the meeting. "Swakopmund can become unique and be an example to the rest of the world", Venter said during the meeting. According to him the shopping bag is one of
the most versatile products available, as it is used for a variety of purposes. Most is reused even for a second and third time. However, after that the plastic bag ends up in the trash and ultimately goes to the landfill. Fortunately, plastic bags also end up in the waste recycling circle such as the waste sorting plant of Rent-a-Drum. "It is impossible to ban the use of plastic bags, but we can reduce its usage", Venter explained. Continues on Page 2
Technology advances require from Namibians to re-skill and upskill Namibia's dropped by six places on the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report (2017-2018) from 84th place to 90th place [out of 137 countries). The lower a country scores out of 137, the better that country's business climate. According to the Managing Director of the Namibia Ports Authority, Mr Bisey Uirab, who made mention of Namibia's drop in the ranks last Thursday at the annual Port Users Luncheon five problematic factors were identified as the root cause:

Continued from Page 1 Currently, Plastic Packaging supplies about 15 million plastic bags to Swakopmund annually. This excludes plastic bags imported from South Africa mainly for chain stores. Venter therefore estimated the figure of plastic bags used only in Swakopmund at 25 million annually. A draft of the new by-law will be presented to Council soon which, according to Venter, might come into force in a few months' time. The new by-law will call on all retailers in Swakopmund, be they large supermarkets, clothing stores or small shops to charge a levy for a plastic bag. A similar levy is already in force in South Africa for a few years. "In South Africa the supermarkets make a profit from the levy. It should not be the case in Swakopmund. In Swakopmund the entire amount will go to the (newly established) environmental fund, which will use the money for various projects to preserve the environment", Venter added. During the meeting the introduction of a standard, recyclable shopping bag was also discussed. Retailers can distribute these bags and could even brand these bags. "The bags should be 20 microns, suitable for recycling. Any 14 microns bags cannot be recycled", Venter explained. He called on Council to add a clause to ban shopping bags from containing a substance called calcium carbonate CaCO3, which some South African manufacturers add to the bags to make it stronger. Shopping bags containing CaCO3 cannot float. Once it ends up in the ocean it sinks where it cannot break down. "These are also not recyclable", he explained. "Swakopmund is perfect to start the project. Ultimately, this should become a countrywide thing. If we do it right, Swakopmund can set the example to the rest of the world. Ultimately, we want to have no plastic to go to the landfill at all", Venter said.

Port terminals like that of the Port of Rotterdam and APMT Terminals are among the most automated in the word. Automation is also a certainty in the future of Namibian ports. At the same time there are concepts being developed of next generation cargo ships which are fully automated with no need for crew. "A technologically rich environment has the power to improve efficiency and productivity and at the same time reduce cost. The business plan we are crafting has a heavy focus on process improvement through automation – gate, yard, access control and general cargo", explained Mr. Uirab. Hence the need for Namibians to become skilled and trained to work and operate in these automated environments. "We have a lot to change in terms of education and work ethics and so we need to start working on this as a matter of urgency. Re-skill and upskill are the magic words", he said.
The luncheon, which is hosted yearly, was held earlier this year ahead of the busy time of the year as the company is currently in the process of reviewing their five year strategy and business and financial plans, as well as the upcoming Erongo Business and Tourism Expo. Speaking at the event, Hoffman emphasized the theme of the lunch which is focused on improving Namibia's competitiveness in the global trade and how this vision can be accomplished. Classic Safari participant is tragically killed Piquet Jacobs
Not long after participants of the 6th Classic Safari Challenge gracefully passed through Walvis Bay with their historic, vintage cars on Friday afternoon on route during their mammoth drive across the continent, news was received of the passing of competitor Jan Hradecky following an accident on the C14 route at the Gaub Pass. There were no other vehicles involved and appears as though Jan lost control of the vehicle while attempting to pass a camper van with dust making visibility difficult, causing the Mercedes convertible to overturn. The Czechish national was travelling with his wife, Dana, at the time of the incident. Another competitor saw the tragic accident happen and alerted the medical team immediately. Dana Hradecky sustained minor head and facial injuries and was treated at the scene, while Jan's injuries were much more severe. Jan received medical treatment at the scene, but not
much could be done due to the serious nature of his injuries. The family has been notified while the Endurance Rally Association team, in Africa and the UK, are currently working together with Nampol as well as the Czech Embassy in Pretoria to provide the family with any assistance needed. Rally Director Fred Gallagher said: “Jan was a seasoned rally participant, having competed in our 2016 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Jan's wife Dana, their family and friends at this difficult time.�

The attitude and demeanor you convey can have a tremendous effect on potential assailants. There are a number of things you can do to increase your personal security and reduce your risk of becoming an ATM crime victim. The following crime prevention tips can help make the use of ATM's safer for everyone: · Walk purposefully and with confidence. Give the appearance that you are totally aware of your surroundings. · Be aware of your environment and what is going on around you. Criminals tend to avoid people who have this type of demeanor. · Perform mental exercises and plan out what you would do in different crime or personal security situations. · Follow your instincts. ATM Selection Considerations: The law sets minimum standards for ATM lighting, procedures for evaluating the safety of ATM's and requires notices to ATM users outlining basic safety precautions for using ATM's. Although ATM environmental design issues are covered in the law, there are other considerations that an ATM customer needs to consider prior to selecting and using an ATM, for example: · Select an ATM that is in a wall-lit, well-traveled location. · Whenever possible, select an ATM that is monitored or patrolled by a security officer. Considerations Prior to/During Transactions: · Always watch for suspicious persons or activity around an ATM. Be aware of anyone sitting in a parked car in close proximity to or at a distance from the ATM location · If you notice anything strange, leave and return some other time. Even if you have already started a transaction, cancel it and leave. · Maintain a small supply of deposit envelopes at home, in your car or office. Prepare all transaction paperwork prior to your arrival at the ATM site. This will minimize the amount of time spent at the ATM · Maintain an awareness of your surroundings throughout the entire transaction. If the lights around the ATM are not working properly, do not use it · When leaving an ATM location make sure you are not being followed. If you are being followed, drive immediately to a police, sheriff or fire station, crowded area, well-lighted location or open business. Flash your lights and sound your horn to bring attention to your situation · If you are involved in a confrontation and the attacker is armed with a weapon and demands your money or valuables, GIVE IT TO THE SUSPECT. Do not resist, property may be recovered later or replaced Fraud Considerations: · Memorise your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Do not write it down or keep it in your wallet or purse. Do not tell anyone else your PIN NUMBER!! (including bank employees, the police, etc.) · Shield the ATM keypad from anyone who may be standing or parked nearby or anyone crowding you in an attempt to view your PIN and/or transaction. Use your body as a shield if necessary while you enter your access code. · Make sure you retain your transaction receipt. Do not throw the receipt away at the ATM site. · Immediately report any stolen or lost ATM card to the proper entities.

Strand Hotel celebrates 2 birthday An afternoon to remember: The Strand Hotel celebrated its 2nd birthday on Monday, 9 October. “Thank you for sticking with us”, proclaimed Strand Hotel General Manager Lance Hurly during the celebrations. Many Swakopmund residents were part of the birthday celebrations, including Mayor Pauline Nashilundo and former Strand Hotel Manager Hilmar Tonnemacher. “The history of the Strand Hotel is inextricably interwoven”, Hurley explained. Adding the new hotel, which officially opened its doors two years ago, marked the beginning of new history. “The first two weeks were quite chaotic and I wish to say thank you all that you stuck with us”, he said. Since its opening the Strand Hotel has become an icon in Swakopmund. “It is a great place to work”, he added. The N$350 million project is one of the biggest tourism developments on the central coast. The Strand Hotel features a wide variety of rooms, ranging from standard rooms, luxury rooms to luxury suites and a presidential suite. It also features three unique restaurants, namely the Ocean Cellar, the Farmhouse Deli and the Brewer and Butcher, which remain popular among tourists and residents alike. Container volumes recovering globally The global container shipping industry is back on track after a lean period. A solid increase in container volumes was reported by world carriers in the first half of 2017. This was said last Thursday by the Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) Mr Bisey Uirab who addressed guests at the annual Port Users Luncheon. Namibia's two ports, Walvis Bay and LĂźderitz will be handling a combined 205 991 TEU's of containers in 2017.

NIMT offers “struggle kids” a new lease on life Erwin Leuschner
Thanks to the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) about 240 struggle kids have opportunities to further their skills. They now have prospects of landing a job and to start a career. Currently there are 62 struggle kids enrolled at various NIMT campuses. “I decided that something must be done after I read an article in a newspaper a few years ago. The article was about desperate, young people who were chased away with a sjambok by the police”, explained Mr Eckart Mueller, Executive Director of NIMT in an interview with namib times. “It was then and there that I thought to myself such a thing should not happen in an independent Namibia.” Soon thereafter Mueller held a meeting with Mr Jerry Ekandjo, Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service. During that meeting Mueller informed Ekandjo that NIMT would assist with the training of these Namibian youths. Ever since, the ministry is in partnership with NIMT and has been sending “struggle kids” to the centers to study. Every six months about 60 struggle kids are enrolled at the various campuses

Currently NIMT is training them to become fitters and turners, diesel mechanics, welders, plumbers, brick layers and carpenters. Some are also receiving training in clothing manufacturing. “We are really happy and grateful for this opportunity”, said one so-called struggle kid to namib times. Walking the NIMT Arandis campus it is impossible to distinguish between a normal trainee and a former struggle kid. At NIMT they are referred to as CLS or Children of the Liberation Struggle, but they receive no special treatment. “They are fully integrated into the system. We have never had an incident with any one of them”, Mueller continued. Instead of seeing “struggle kids” as problem youth, Mueller sees these people as
desperate. When they receive an opportunity to further themselves and are able to see a future, they are extremely grateful and make the most of it. “It is a life opportunity and once I graduate I hope to get a job at a mine. I am very happy for this”, said another struggle kid. Most CLS's at Arandis NIMT are between 29 and 35 years old. Another female struggle kid added: “I used to be a domestic worker, paying very little. Now I am learning to become a turner. I am very excited.” The current intake, which started at NIMT in September, will complete their courses in April. After five years they can return and write a National Trade Test – thereafter they are fully fledged artisans in their respective professions. “These people are only asking for an opportunity in life. I am only sad that we did not start with this earlier”, Mueller concluded.

Shark attack in Namibia now recognised by international body Namibia has its first official shark attack incident entered into the database of the International Shark Attack File (ISAF). Three years ago, Windhoek resident Jan Sieber was windsurfing at the Walvis Bay speed strip when he was bitten in the right foot by a shark. After a lengthy operation he made a full recovery. This is now the first and only recognized Namibian shark attack. But, there is no need for panic! Shark attacks in Namibia are virtually non-existent and makes Sieber's case exceptional. "I probably surprised the shark when I put my foot into the water. The shark was probably right there, just bit down and swam off again", Sieber explained to namib times this week. The incident occurred in October 2014. Sieber, who used to be an avid windsurfer, was out on the speed strip trying to make a start. He had one leg in the water. "I suddenly felt something bite into my foot, shake twice and then immediately let go", he said. He immediately realised it was a shark bite, but could not exactly see what type of shark it was, as the water is quite murky. Werner Tjipueja Nah! Walvisbay's water is too cold to habitate sharks... unlike killer whales (orcas) which are found in cold waters. I doubt that it was a shark attack. Remains of soldiers exhumed The remains of eight South African and four British sol-diers were exhumed at Walvis Bay's Mulderene cemetery this week and are due for reburial in the Swakopmund municipal cemetery's acre of the war-dead on 12 November this year. The death of these soldiers occurred during the Second World War in the Walvis Bay area and at sea, as a result of accidents, drownings and illness. They were buried at Mulderene more than seventy years ago. The remains were placed in small white caskets, normally used for the burial of very young children. Re-interned in the acre of the war-dead in Swakopmund on 12 November. The remains of eight South African and four British soldiers were exhumed at Walvis Bay's Mulderene cemetery this week and are due for reburial in the Swakopmund municipal cemetery's acre of the war-dead on 12 November this year. Five of the eight South African soldiers served in the S.A. Native Military Corps and will become the first black soldiers interned in the Swakopmund cemetery. Two people passed away on Tuesday morning after a vehicle accident on the salt road between Henties Bay and the gate leading to the Skeleton Coast Park. Two other occupants of the vehicle, including a two-year old boy were injured. According to the police report the accident occurred at about 9:30, 92 kilometers from Henties Bay. It is alleged the driver, David Byl (26), lost control over his vehicle, a dark blue Toyota Corolla (N 18637 S), after a tyre blow-out. The vehicle left the road and overturned. Byl as well as the passenger, Matheus Haufiku (45), died at the scene. Kavira Sadnag (34) and the child were initially transported to Swakopmund state hospital for medical treatment. Sadnag's condition has been described as stable. The boy was transferred to Windhoek in a critical condition, as he sustained life-threatening injuries. Stolen items retrieved The Namibian Police calls upon the public to visit the Walvis Bay police station to identify a wide variety of items confiscated by the police from criminals. Waterfront Letter Dear Editor, I refer to your article titled MAN ARRESTED FOR CATCHING ROCK LOBSTER AT WATERFRONT IN SWAKOPMUND. Dated 10 October 2017. Well done on the apprehension of the poachers ..... However, I fail to understand how the representative of the Swakopmund Waterfront Development, Mrs Marais, can presume ownership of the so called small craft harbor and the breakwaters. Mrs Marais insinuates that the breakwater and the "harbor" is part of their premises and that the harvesting of crayfish within the harbor or fishing from the breakwater is illegal. What law is she referring too? Is she referring to the law that protects the privacy of the property and all contents thereon? If so, is she also claiming ownership of the crayfish as well as all the fish in the 'harbor'. Might I remind Mrs Marais, as well as all stake holders in the Waterfront development, that this so called small craft harbour as well as a large portion of the shopping centre and apartments falls in a zone well below the high water mark which makes it State land and not theirs to preside over, let alone lease or sell. The matter of legal ownership of the reclaimed land below the high water mark has not been settled yet. The contour line depicting the conveniently positioned new high water mark has not been proclaimed by the Surveyor General yet. If anyone gets to enforce the laws here, it would be the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and not the waterfront development company. As a citizen of this country I have the right of access to a public open space which includes these breakwaters. Access to the breakwater cannot be denied as the area joining the two breakwaters is also below the current high-water mark. Fishing from the North Beach has always been permitted. This would include the breakwaters. Mrs Marais, I will walk on and fish from 'your' breakwater as long as it remains the property of the State. Just try and stop me! Trees planted to celebrate 30 years of the FNB brand This year marks the 30th birthday of the FNB Brand. More Acacia trees were also planted at Swakopmund Primary School, Arandis Primary School, and in Henties Bay at Kwamwandi Junior Combined School. The Far North cluster planted 10 trees (3 Acacia and 7 others) along one of the main roads in Okahao. They partnered with the fire fighters of the Okahao Town Council. The Treasury department of FNB Namibia also participated in the FNB Brand birthday celebrations by planting a tree at the Hope Village in Greenwell Matongo Katutura. This place is home to more than 90 children, from infants to young adults. Hope Village has been Treasury's chosen charity for 2017.

Patient Accommodation Support (Children): CHICA Interim Home is a safe haven for mothers and children while the little ones receive treatment in Windhoek - all complimentary. 7. Regional Footprint: Volunteer committees nationwide, in addition to the CAN Erongo Centre (opened in September 2017), impacts lives throughout Namibia. 10. Support to the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS): Dr AB May Cancer Care Centre & Paediatric Oncology Ward (8 West Windhoek Central) - renovations project 2017 and renewal of MoU's to better Windhoek Central Hospital for cancer patients. 11. Advocacy: Advisory and support to the MoHSS and Office of the First Lady on cancer related topics to better the fight on cancer in Namibia 12. Projects & Fundraising: All operations and administration is funded by in-house fundraising initiatives and donations. CAN receives ZERO foreign aid or money from GRN. The Young Gladiators resently lost 4-0 to South Africa in their second leg match to confine them to a an aggregate defeat of 9-0 in their 2018 FIFA U20 Women World Cup First Round at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday. The score in Johannesburg two weeks ago was 5-0 in favor of South Africa and the Young Gladiators were hoping to use their home turf to great effect when the two countries met for the second leg match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura on Sunday afternoon. After a good start, it was the South Africa that took the lead on 22 minutes through Gabriela Salgado, who pounced on a loose ball after the Young Gladiators defence failed to clear a free kick. The home side regrouped with Millicent Hikuam marshaling the defence well while Mellissa Matheus in goal was also having a fine game and Anna Shaende held her won at right back. Memory Ngonda started upfront but due to lack of supply from the midfield, she was unable to make an impact together with striker partner Kylie Van Wyk. South Africa got their second goal on 34 minutes, thanks to captain Linda Motlhalo, who finished past the advancing Matheus after a well waited pass from Ntombi Ndlovu. In the second half, Beverly Uueziua and Iyaloo Rooi came on for Kamunikire Tjituka and Veronica van Wyk respectively as the home side looked to restore some pride, but two minutes into the second half South Africa made it 3-0 as Motlhalo scored an audacious free kick from 35 metres that flew into the top corner over the head of a hapless Matheus. Later on Memory Ngonda had a shot at goal from a free kick and so did Hikuam, before Ndlovu made it 4-0 from close range on 63 minutes to all but confirm South Africa place in the second round of the African leg of the Qualifiers. Julia Rutjindo came on for Alicia Gertze, allowing Hikuam to move into midfield to supply the threatening Rooi while Uueziua stamped her authority down the right wing and had a dangerous cross turned wide by the versatile captain Ngonda. After the match , Young Gladiators assistant coach Shama Gure, who stood in for Mervin Mbakera who tied the knot this weekend said the mental strength o the opposition won the game for them. "The mental strength of South Africa was our downfall today and they were quicker and clinical with their possession and we always had to play catch up. It was a learning curve for us and we go back and try to come back better next time", Gure said. At the crack of dawn (well almost) a great field of "ou toppies" came out in support of the sponsor for a fantastic morning of golf – things were a bit chilly at first and with winds coming from ever changing directions club selection and putting needed lots of concentration. Latest International Netball Federation (INF) World Rankings It has been a busy period of international netball in the past couple of months with the Quad Series, Pent Series, Taini Jamison Trophy, SEA Games and others all taking place. The INF World Rankings have been updated to reflect matches played between the 1st July and 13th September 2017. After an impressive showing at the Quad Series, and a 2-0 series win over Fiji, South Africa is drawing closer to Jamaica in 4th position. As for Fiji, their series defeat to South Africa sees them fall one place into 8th, and th Wales benefit as they rise one place into 7 . Following their Pent Series triumph, Zimbabwe leap frog Zambia into 15th Malaysia rise to 20th thanks to their SEA Games gold medal. In contrast, Singapore drop to 19th, and St Lucia have benefitted as they rise one place to 18th. Malaysia's rise to 20th sees Botswana who finished 4th at the st Pent Series, fall to 21 . Elsewhere, Canada has switched places to rise above close neighbours USA into 26th. This came following their victory over the Cayman Islands. Despite losing, 3-0, the Cayman Islands also benefitted as they now have played enough games to have a

Isn't spring and Summer just going to be awesome...Heh! Anyway enough bickering and back to things more pertaining to the doubles tussle last week and a gentle reminder that the last 2 rounds will be played on Wednesday and Friday this week. The results for the Wednesday 11th are as follows:Men's A Erongo Equipment Hire: Michael Stauder & Trevor Heath beat Fuel Pump Repairs Africa: Jaco de Witt and Angelo Titus 3-2. Man-o-man, it was a titanic battle, which was played in such good spirit. Michi and Trev held on to the slenderest of leads in the 5th game and managed to seal the win with an awesome unreturnable shot to the nick. ImanuelAmorongo and Stefan van Tonder beat Ze de Britto and Sergio Figueiredo 3-1. It was another superb result for Imanuel/Stefan, which keeps them hovering at the top of the leaderboard. Emil Dorgeloh and Danie Greeff beat Leslie Bosman and Brandon Grane 3-2. Emil and Danie still remain undefeated, but it was a darn good effort by Les and Brandon. Men's B Magic Discounters: Edwin van Urk and Cabous Olivier beat Itchy and Scratchy: Jakkie Nel and Ricardo von Stein 3-0. With Cabous as a reserve; He and Edwin had a bit more magic in their game. Ockie du Plessis and Floris Steenkamp beat Jon Allen and Paul 3-0. Jon and Paul put in a good effort and almost got 1. Blackie Zwart and Bertus Fokkens beat Drikus Zwart and Chris Bruyns 3-2. Sjoe, amper! Blackie and Bertus kept their cool and managed to dispose of any final efforts attempted by Drikus and Chris. Angie and Carla ensured themselves a good win by striking fear and terra into their opponent's hearts.Imanuel Amorongo and Christelle Eiman beat Lindsay Lottering and Bykes Muashekele 3-1. I see in my mind's eye Imanue; Christelle doing a victory dance and singing 'Nanna-na-na.. nanna-na-na .. Hey heyhey .. Good bye!!' Once again a good win to them. Emil Dorgeloh and Chantel de Gouveia beat Leslie Bosman and Lucinda 3-1. It was a good effort by Les and Lucy. They proved that Emil and Chantel is not invincible by being the first team to take a game off them. Mixed B Cindy Kruger and Doyle de Haas beat Amy Volker and Michail Pretorius 3-0. Wow! Cindy was nursing an injured ankle and her and Doyle still managed to pick up a good win. Alan Hartung and Doyle beat Lindi Dreyer and Gabriela 3-1. This must have been a bit of confidence booster for Alan. Jaco de Jager and Anneke beat Jacoline Oelofse and Liandro Martins 3-0. Insurance is the name of the game. Jaco by selecting Anneke as reserve the team was ensured a good win. Zeenad Martins and Charlton Brussel beat Zola Nel and Christo van Wyk 3-0. 2017 Dr. Geingob Cup Walvis Bay Sports Martial Arts Club at Destiny: On 7 & 8 October 2017, seven students from Walvis Bay Sports Mrtial Arts club attended the 2017 Destiny in South Africa. Destiny is attended by teams from all over the world and it is open to juniors and seniors of all ages and belt groups. Belt groups compete together under weight and age groups. There is 4 divisions in general: Beginner (white & yellow) Novice (orange & green) Intermediate (blue & purple) Advanced (brown & black belt). The divisions that the fighters are competed in were; Points & continuous fighting, Free style forms, weapons forms, Traditional Kata & Kumite, Self Defense, breaking for juniors & seniors, high kick challenge, extreme kicking, submission GI & NO-GI grappling, tag team matches, Sport MMA and Sport Full Contact & ISKA Full Contact Kickboxing (for adults only). We would like to congratulate the students on their performance and results at the event. The Brave Warriors are implored to win the 2017 edition of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup as The results are as followed: they face Zimbabwe in a FIFA International Friendly on 11 November at the majestic Sam Nujoma Stadium in celebration of the country's President's legacy. During the launch event of the fourth edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup on Wednesday at the Namibia Breweries headquarters, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport and national Services Agnes Tjongarero called on Coach Ricardo Mannetti and his charges to put up good fight and ensure that at the fourth time of asking the cup remains at hope.“ We cannot to allow the cup to leave the country like for the last three years and I tell you to inform your players that we must the cup at home and we must show the world we can win as well” Tjongarero said to Mannetti, the latter holding the trophy aloft and in agreement. NFA President Frans Mbidi in his address confirmed that the 2017 Dr Hage Geingob Cup will be played on Saturday, 11 November, 16h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.“The 2017 Dr Hage Geingob Cup have added significance in the sense that it will be used to accord our national team, the Brave Warriors who are African Nations Championship finals bound, an opportunity to struff their stuff and thoroughly prepare for the tournament in January in a country still to be determined by the Confederation of African Football. The 2017 spectacle of this prestigious competition will see our Brave Warriors face the Warriors of Zimbabwe in an international friendly on exactly a month from now, 11 November in Windhoek, an encounter which will be a category A FIFA friendly game” Mbidi said.

Strongman at Walvisfees The annual strongman competition at the Walvisfees has not only become a tradition, but is also a highlight. The competition is sponsored by Wynand Theron of the Muscle Shop. This year six women took part in the competition and the winners are: Angelique de Klerk, Esmerelda Dames and Dunja Pritzen. The senior men's winners were: Martin Goeieman, Dino Grunschloss and Gurath van Loggenberg. The class for professionals were won by Sven Reimers and Chris Storm. The organisers were satisfied with the turnout of participants and extended a special thanks to Will's Gym, Baard Group, Salon Be-Cute, Nutritech and Bachmus Oil & Fuel Supplies.
