Montgomery stands accused of the murder of Hester Maria van Zyl and attempted murder of his sister-in-law. Montgomery appeared before Magistrate John Sindano and was denied bail. The case was postponed to 13 April for further investigation. This after an argument that ensued between Montgomery and his brother's wife that allegedly sparked the attack on Sunday late afternoon. According to the Unit Commander of Community Affairs of the Erongo police, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, Montgomery left after his sister-in-law chased him away, only to return with a knife. Inspector Shapumba said, “The suspect allegedly left and came back with a sharp object (knife) hidden under his clothes.” A police report reveals the suspect stabbed his sister-inlaw on her right arm and then proceeded with stabbing the next victim, Hester Maria van Zyl in the chest and hand when she attempted to push him out of the room. “The victims managed to lock the door, but the Montgomery broke it open and continued stabbing the two women multiple times,” Inspector Shapumba said. Van Zyl succumbed at the scene to the multiple serious injuries she sustained.

In honor of Swakopmund's 130th anniversary, in August of last year, with the aim of making the celebrations distinct and memorable from previous yearly celebrations, the public was invited to submit design ideas to be used as the framework for the new “welcome sign” to be constructed at the entrances of Swakopmund on the B2 and C124 roads. Council approved ten proposals and nineteen designs which were submitted as proposed designs form the public. Continues on page 2
