Fish permit offices Open over weekends
Southwesterly winds as strong as 94 kilometers an hour batter the coastal towns since Tuesday. Fallen trees, walls that collapsed, wind damage to roof structures and dangerous sea conditions that created nightmares for many vessel owners are the result. On Tuesday, Namport had to dispatch a tug to the vessel anchorage area off the port of Walvis Bay after two fishing vessels, Noro and Westcoast 2, went adrift after coming loose from anchorage. On Wednesday, Neptunam Marine Services had to scramble to save three marine tour boats moored in t h e Wa l v i s B a y Waterfront.
One of the boats, Que Sera, of Sunsail Charters lifted her mooring and was drifting. Employees of Sunsail took a second boat, Fairweather, to save the drifting vessel. In the process Fairweather was also sent adrift and collided with a third boat, Husler. The boats were temporarily tied up at the small craft harbour on Wednesday night to prevent further problems as the windy
conditions remained strong well after sunset. Also on Wednesday, the floating mussel processing platform, Kucki, was damaged when an unknown vessel adrift bumped it. Kucki has no engine or steering and is an old fishing vessel that was converted into a floating mussel processing facility. At Kraatz Marine in Walvis Bay, the vehicle carport collapsed in

“Softhearted” Russian tells of his sex escapades with underage girls Piquet Jacobs Alexander Krylov testified during a bail hearing in the Walvis Bay magistrates court this week that the sexual encounters were consensual and he paid the girls N$100 each for sex, also that he had no idea that the girls were underaged as their bodies were 'well developed'. Krylov, also known to his victims as Mr Alex was arrested recently on charges of rape and kidnapping when his sexual encounters with underaged girls in the harbour town came to light.
According to Krylov, he met his co-accused, Anna Katrina Engelbrecht, in March of this year when she contacted him about a woman in need of money. The woman was willing to exchange sex for money.
“I went to pick them up in town. We were having sex and then accused 2 (Engelbrecht) also joined. After we finished, I gave both N$100 and dropped them in town. After a week, the lady called me again to have sex for

old she is and she claimed to be 17-yearsold. Krylov added that he only became aware of the girls being underage when the matter was published in the newspapers for the first time. Krylov told the court that after reading about
his alleged sexual offenses in the media, he was contacted by one of the girls who made an attempt at extorting money from him. “The one time there were four ladies, I told them I only have N$200

high winds. There was at least one vehicle parked under the roof structure when it collapsed. The extent of damage to the vehicle/s are unknown. A palm tree toppled in Theo-Ben Gurirab Ave at around 17:00 on Wednesday. The falling tree damaged the garden wall. At the Walvis Bay Yacht Club, a section of the boundary wall was blown over. At various locations in Walvis Bay roofing felt was blown off buildings. (See pictures on page 5) ·A Southeasterly wind initially dominated in the morning yesterday, resulting in the coastal towns covered by a dust blanket. Later in the day the Southwesterly wind returned and wind speeds picked at times to as many as 66 km/h. The winds are expected to subside over the weekend.
Mrs. Pienaar is the Namibian Ambassador to Zimbabwe and has been quoted by the Namibian national media this week as constantly updating Namibia's Ministry of International Relations and Cooperations on the developing situation in Zimbabwe. The Namibian High Commission in Zimbabwe is situated in the capital, Harare. At the time of going to press yesterday afternoon press reports from Harare stated President Robert Mugabe was “imminent” on stepping down and hand over power to the country's former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa is expected to form a unity Government which will include members of the country's opposition.

Traffic was disrupted in 3 street East yesterday morning when a trailer loaded with a container detached from a truck and ended up on its side in one of the double lanes. The truck was heading towards the port main entrance and as it was turning into 3rd street East, the trailer detached and fell to its side with container and all. A traffic officer arrived at the scene, to redirect the traffic in the area. A crane had to get the trailer back on its wheels again. Also, on Tuesday a bus was destroyed by fire on the C14 airport road. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Strong winds fanned the flames and the bus was totally destroyed within minutes. The emergency services attended the scene.

Staff Reporter While the unprecedented, strong southerly wind experienced this week at the central coast was a headache for most residents, it was a blessing for a few adrenalin junkies. As windspeeds exceeded 20 knots and gusts up to 40 knots were measured in Swakopmund, a few kite surfers braved the unknown at the so-called Tiger Reef (photo). As windspeeds picked up more during the late afternoons visibility on various coastal roads was severely affected. Sand dunes formed on some roads and in street corners in town. The strong south/southwesterly wind continued yesterday and was predicted to subside as from today (Friday) onwards. There was no serious damage caused by the wind in Swakopmund. Many residents will most likely spend the weekend cleaning their homes. While the coast received extreme winds, Namibians in the interior of the country experienced cold weather, with temperatures as low as 6°C recorded for Keetmanshoop and Noordoewer and even 4°C for Aus and Karasburg. The Namibian Meteorological Service cautioned Namibians that cold and windy conditions will persist in the south, east and over the central highland, with 8°C predicted for the capital.

Fishing Permit office open over weekends again The Swakopmund office of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources issuing recreational fishing permits will be open on weekends. The office was closed over weekends for several weeks and led to big frustrations. This re-opening over weekends was confirmed to namib times by De Wet Siluka, the ministry's Public Relations Officer. According to Siluka, the permit office was closed over the past few weekends due to issues regarding payment of overtime to staff. “The issue has been resolved and thus the office will be open from 8:00 to 13:00 during weekends”, Siluka said. He added that the Ministry is considering to extend the weekend operation hours during the upcoming holiday season. Yesterday, a notice was attached at the permit office indicating that it will be open again on weekends. MEDIA RELEASE
Continued Sale Of Land To Foreigners Confusing The Popular Democratic Movement is perplexed by the continued sale of Namibian farm lands to foreigners. Whilst Namibia may be vast in size relative to its population, large chunks of land in Namibia are either desert or not conducive to agricultural activity. It is therefore confusing that whilst it is well documented that the Ministry of Land Reform has encountered significant difficulty in implementing the “willing buyer – willing seller” model, primarily due to a lack of willing sellers, even if accounting for the high prices at which land is offered to the Ministry, the Ministry still continues to negotiate with foreigners and consents to the sale of scarce agricultural and farm land to foreigners. And this at a time when Namibian’s need for productive arable agricultural land is plain for all to see. As has been widely reported in the local media (e.g. Russian billionaire seeks right to buy land: The Namibian – 3 November 2017), the Ministry of Land Reform is considering a proposal by a Russian national who already owns 28,000 hectares of land. The current proposal under consideration by the Ministry of Land Reform would see this Russian national purchase an additional 18,000 hectares of land, meaning he would amass a grand total of 46,000 hectares of Namibian land. What reasonable justification is there for allowing that amount of Namibian land to sit in the hands of one foreigner when the land needs of Namibians are plain for all to see? Additionally, what safeguards will be put in place to ensure that if Ministerial consent is granted and the sale goes through, this land will not once again sit in the hands of a foreigner who would never be a willing seller under the willing seller-willing buyer program? Or if at all, that such sale would not be at such a high price that the purchase of that land would be beyond the scope of the Ministry of Land Reforms financial capacity? What is even more surprising is that a proposal is being considered that would see a foreign national possibly own 46,000 hectares of agricultural land whilst the Ministry of Land Reform is in the final stages of finalising legislative amendments that would limit farm sizes to a maximum of 12,000 hectares. That limitation cannot simply mean that one person is then permitted to buy multiple farms the total size of which far exceeds the proposed cap.

Hartmann murder case postponed to February 2018 Erwin Leuschner The case against 25-year old Uaaro Unaro Mbemukenga, who is accused of murdering Swakopmund resident Manfred Hartmann on 17 August at his home in Vineta, was postponed to 5 February 2018. Mbemukenga made his second appearance in the magistrate's court on Monday. Magistrate Conchita Olivier remanded the matter after state prosecutor Paulus Shilongo said further police investigations in the matter are required. Mbemukenga is being represented by lawyer Ms. Hinda. Mbemukenga is facing a charge of murder, after he allegedly beat 78-year old Hartmann with a brick on the head. He thereafter stole a few valuables and fled to Outjo, where he was arrested a few hours after the murder. During his first court appearance Mbemukenga confessed to the murder and said that “I really can't say what was going on in my head.” He added that he “beat him once with the brick on the head and afterwards tied his arms and (tied) a rope around his neck.”
Dippenaar murder trial to continue Erwin Leuschner next week On Tuesday (21 November) the murder trial against Jandré Dippenaar is set to continue at the Regional Court in Swakopmund. Dippenaar is accused of having caused a horrific motor vehicle collision on 29 December 2014 on the Henties Bay road which claimed the lives of six people. The trial is expected to run until 30 November. In total nine days were set down for the continuation of trial. It is unlikely that the State, who will still call in more witnesses to present evidence, will conclude its case during this period. The matter was postponed in July this year after the German survivor of the accident, Antonia Joschko, who was 16 at the time, testified in court and relieved the events of that fateful day. Joschko lost her father Markus Walter Helmut Joschko, mother Stephanie Schermuck-Joschko and her sister Alexandra Marlene Joschko during the accident. The family was on holiday in Namibia and was travelling in a Ford Ranger pick-up along the coastal road towards Swakopmund from Henties Bay. Dippenaar, who was driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser, allegedly overtook numerous vehicles at a high speed at a small hill and is accused of causing the fatal head-on collision. He was the only survivor of the FJ Cruiser. The victims were JC Horn, Dinah Pretorius and Charlene Schoombee. Dippenaar, who is out on a warning, is facing six counts of murder, a count of reckless or negligent driving alternatively inconsiderate driving, a count of fraud alternatively furnishing false information and a count of not being in possession of a driver's license. The case will set a new precedence in Namibian law, as it the first time in the country's history that a person is facing murder charges in connection with deaths in a motor vehicle accident. Since the start of the trial, the family members of the victims have been present in court throughout. It has been an emotional roller coaster, as various eyewitnesses have up to date given testimony of what transpired on that fateful day. One witness testified that Dippenaar did indeed overtake on a blind crest in a reckless manner and thereby caused the head-on collision.

Busy cargo handling schedule ahead Four container vessels and four general cargo vessels are calling at Walvis Bay today, over the weekend and Monday. This means a busy cargo handling schedule for the port for the next few days. The container ships are Maersk Cameroun, Kota Lumayan, Boundary and Buxcontact. The general cargo vessels are Arslan, Onda, Solanjo and Svenbourg. Among the cargos to be discharged are 600 containers and 2500 metric tons of break bulk sugar. Man dies in accident in port of Walvis Bay Old scholars association launched for Narraville The much anticipated Narraville Old Scholars Association (NAROSA) was launched during a gala dinner on Saturday evening, at the Walvis Bay Town Hall. The association's founding member and chairman Zane Jansen spoke at the event and gave insight into how the organisation was born, stating that the association is focused on uplifting the schools of Narraville as well as to empower the learners of the De Duine Secondary School and Narraville Primary School. “The idea behind the initiative is to have old scholars come together to give back to their alma mater. The seed was planted by former De Duine principal and pillar in the Narraville community, Wenty Mouton, and we are honoured to make it a reality�, said Jansen. Confusion at consultation on proposed increase of fishing permits The consultation on the new levy structure for subsistence, recreational and sport fishing on Friday in Swakopmund was marred by confusion. About 50 stakeholders from various sectors attended the meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. The meeting was advertised by the ministry with the aim of inviting all stakeholders for a consultative meeting regarding the newly gazetted recreational fishing levies, which made provision for the increase to N$1 500 per angling permit per month. The new levy came into force in June, but after widespread public outcry was temporarily suspended. Currently the old levies of N$14 per month or N$168 per annum are still inforce. Many participants at the meeting were requested to hand in written presentations, but were not aware of that beforehand as it was not advertised.
Stakeholders were subsequently invited to hand in written proposals at the ministry. Ian J Izaacs Be it as it may the minutes and all related documents should be made public when the initial discussion took place about introducing the permit system in the first place. It was not to finance the operational cost as it is tabled now. The narative created now by the Ministry is misleading to the Nation. I still stand by my initial point that operational expense should be carried from ells where out of the budget and not by the man and woman on the street. Fish quotas are enriching individuals why not get one quota to finance this cost why punish the poor man on the street whether recreational, subsistence or sport. How is hunting permits delth with, how mutch do you pay for a hunting permit, how is the operational cost covered for the relevant ministry. Surely the principles is the same. Eish....
Hit and run suspects still at large The Namibian Police are still searching for the three drivers connected to the death by hit and run of Walvis Bay resident John Robinson (38) at Langstrand on Saturday morning. A case of culpable homicide and failure to ascertain the extend of injuries or damages sustained and to render necessary assistance are being investigated after a 'hit and run' incident in the early hours of Saturday morning at Langstrand. It is alleged that between 03:30 and 04:00 Robinson, who was walking along the B2, was struck by a small white pick-up, and then by two sedan vehicles. All three of these drivers, who were travelling from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay, had apparently stopped at the scene, but after realising that they had driven over and killed a person fled the scene. A road user travelling from Swakopmund eventually came across Robinson's body and contacted the Police. According to family members, Robinson, his two sisters and his two daughters were visiting family at Langstrand when Robinson decided to walk to the main road to hitch a ride back to Walvis Bay. A case of culpable homicide has been opened after the death of a Namport employee, Sackeus Amulungu (53), after an accident in the port of Walvis Bay on Wednesday morning. Amulungu was reportedly directing a truck and a reachstacker (large forklift) simultaneously when he was hit by the forklift, causing him to fall. In the process the forklift drove over his legs. He was rushed to the Welwitschia Private Hospital where he received medical treatment for the serious injuries he sustained. Dr Nujoma cuts the ribbon at new recovery clinic Founding President Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma inaugurated the newly constructed St Raphael Health Recovery Clinic, which is owned by the well-known Gabriela Teleman of the St Gabriel Community Ambulance Trust. Teleman, who has been operating St Gabriel Community Ambulance Trust for the past 13 years at the coast, had her dream come true to open the health clinic with the financial help of local businessman, Chico Gomes. The clinic provides health services for a range of conditions such as drug- and alcohol addiction, uncontrolled diabetes, mental health deterioration and rehabilitation for accident victims. The clinic is fully operational and equipped with top of the range medical technology and 13 beds. The clinic is staffed by 14 nurses. The clinic is open for anyone and everyone, regardless of financial status. Dr Nujoma applauded Teleman's initiative and for providing the coastal community with quality health services. Swakopmund's first high-rise building at the Mole The new development on the old municipal swimming pool erf at the Mole received generally positive reviews when it was presented to the public on Friday at the Swakopmund municipality. "Sur la Plage" will include the first high-rise building to be constructed in the coastal town. The development "Sur la Plage" will consist of three buildings, revealed Dr Jacko Koen, Managing Director of the developer Jimmey Construction. Koen added although the development is presented as part of a public scoping exercise, it has not yet been approved by the Aesthetics Committee. According to Koen the main building to be constructed is located on the sea front of the erf and will feature ten stories (height of close to 40 meters). The two remaining buildings, known as the North Block and South Block, will be constructed behind the main building on the eastern side of the property. Each will feature eight stories (height of close to 30 meters). Below the ground level, the developer envisages a parking garage. The ground floor of the development will house public amenities, including public restrooms, ablution facilities, an ice cream shop and three restaurants. Jimmey Construction will also beautify and modernise the current play park, located between the erf and the museum. Promiseland Trust receives N$101 000 MEDIA RELEASE donation Walvis Bay – The Promiseland Trust, a non-profit welfare organisation that cares for and assists underprivileged and destitute children in the poor communities of Walvis Bay, received a welcome donation to the value of N$101 000 from Buccaneer (Pty) Ltd and JCM Theart (Pty) Ltd. Operating from its centre in Tutaleni neighbourhood in Kuisebmond, the aim of the trust is to improve the quality of life of the community's most vulnerable children through education, feeding and character building. The Trust is fully reliant on donor funding and sponsorships. The Trust currently runs three on-going successful projects, namely its Feeding, Forming and Foster Care projects at the Promiseland Centre. The Soup Kitchen Feeding Project currently provides daily home cooked meals in two sittings from Monday to Friday for roughly 250 vulnerable children at the Promiseland Centre in Kuisebmond. The first meal is prepared and served to pre-primary children during their morning activities at the Promiseland Centre and the second for school-going children in the afternoons. In total the Trust provides a meal for approximately 1800 children on a daily basis during the school terms. The Forming Project began in 2012 with the intention of keeping children off the streets by allowing them to spend the day learning and playing at the Promiseland Centre. Since then donations have allowed the Centre to expand and build a complex with two toilets and an office and three classrooms. At present about 60 children benefit from the personal development and intellectual playing methods of the internationally accredited Headstart Montessori Teachers Training College, a partner in the project, which curriculum is currently implemented at the Centre. The Trust also runs a Foster Care project initiated in 2011 and currently employs a foster mother to care for two children. The children stay with their foster mother and are raised in a stable and caring environment. The Trust provides them with housing, groceries, clothing, education and emotional support. The Trust has future plans to expand its operations and include strategies to become selfsustainable through a farming project where crops would be cultivated in tunnels.
Promiseland is also currently in the process of establishing its forth project called First Steps. Through this programme the Centre aims to provide a safe environment for the vulnerable expecting mother, educate and assist them with their pre- and post natal care and create a safe place where mothers and their babies can stay during the day. The second phase of the
programme will be a Day and Night Care Centre for babies from 3 to 18 months. Mothers will be able to leave their children in a safe environment while working day or night shifts at the fish factories. The third and final phase of the First Steps programme will be to run an early childhood development centre for toddlers one to three years of age where after they can enter the
Montessori Pre-Primary School. The good work of the Trust would not have been possible without the donations of the Walvis Bay and broader Namibian community. NBL depot to be a world-class facility Rudi Bowe
Namibia Breweries Limited will construct a world-class depot in Walvis Bay at a price tag of N$26 million. The depot at the harbour town will be strategic, as most of the NBL's coastal customers are in Walvis Bay. It will also close the breach between export trade and commodity imports for the NBL. In the 2016/2017 financial year that ended in March, NBL exported 24 million litres of beer to seventeen countries, totalling a gross income of N$96 million. NBL's total gross income for the mentioned book year was N$2.7 billion. The new depot will be one of a kind and will be a world-class facility. The construction of the depot will be completed in 2018. The groundbreaking ceremony for this new depot was held recently at Walvis Bay.

An der Atlantikküste,in der Namibwüste Salz und mehr (Meer) oder: die richtige Dosis macht’s 1.Skelettküste-, im Nordwesten des heutigen Namibia, um 1475: eine portugiesische Karavelle treibt steuerlos als Spielball in der Brandung auf die Klippen zu und zerschellt an der Küste. Die Mannschaft, seit Tagen ohne Wasser, versucht noch verzweifelt, einige der leeren Wasserfässer, die an Land gespült werden, zu retten. Man hofft, Quellen zu finden und das Wasser dann abzufüllen. Doch vergebens. Ein Matrose nach dem anderen verdurstet in der rauen und trockenen Wüste - denn das Meerwasser nutzt ihnen nichts, weil es zu salzig ist, und an Land gibt es nur Sand, Steine und Felsen. 2.Hammerstein
Lodge, vor einigen Jahren: Wir liegen am Pool, eine Gruppe Touristen hat ebenfalls im Schatten Platz genommen und ruht sich nach dem anstrengenden Ausflug zum Sossusvlei aus. Eine älterer Mann der Reisegruppe liegt im Schatten und schläft. Sein monotones Schnarchen übertönt das Stimmengewirr. Locker vom Hocker Wasser, quo vadis?
Liebe Küstenleser! Also, wenn Sie noch immer sauer sind, dass das Wasser wegen Reparaturarbeiten am Von -Bach-Damm knapp ist, begeben Sie sich einmal auf eine Reise ins Kap. Ich habe ja bereits in dieser Rubrik berichtet, dass man in Kapstadt ein dankbares Stoßgebet gen Himmel senden kann, wenn aus den Minidüsen des

somit das Leichengift auf die Wöchnerinnen übertragen. Das Kindbettfieber, das so viele Schwangere dahingerafft hat, war demnach eine durch mangelnde Hygiene verursachte Blutvergiftung! Und was hatte Semmelweis gegen die Ignoranz und Arroganz seiner Kollegen zu kämpfen, die Angst um ihr Prestige hatten. Auch daraus sollte man lernen! Semmelweis ist als “Retter der Mütter” in die Geschichte eingegangen und seinen Snob-Kollegen sind in Vergessenheit geraten. Doch zurück zur Wasserkrise am Kap. Neulich waren in der Mall selbst die Toiletten abgeschlossen. Als ich sehnsüchtig auf den Schlüsselbund der Klo-Meme schaute und drohte, auf den Boden zu pinkeln, ließ sie mich ins magische Örtchen ein. Noch nie habe ich mich über ein “Sesam öffne dich” so sehr gefreut wie da. Ansonsten schöpfe ich zu Hause jeden Abend das Badewasser in einen Eimer, das dann zur Toilettenspülung verwendet wird. Organisation for Caring for People with Disabilities THANK YOU for assistance with LUNCHEON FOR DISABLED The Organisation for Caring for People with Disabilities assists wherever possible to alleviate the trials and tribulations of less fortunate Namibians, especially those that are living with disabilities. One of our main events was the annual luncheon in October 2017 for the disabled of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. We normally have well in excess of 150 attendees and, with the luncheon, a small present is handed to everyone present. Thank you Sunshine Centre & JJ's Care Walvis Bay, Chain Swakopmund, and all the others for joining us this year so we could place a smile on your sweet faces for an early Christmas. MTN Namibia ushers in new Board of Directors WINDHOEK: MTN Namibia has welcomed a new Board of Directors headed by prominent local businessman Mr Vaino Nghipondoka, owner and Chairperson of Profile Investment Holdings. This appointment follows a strategic multi-million dollar transaction, which saw Profile Technologies acquire 30 percent shareholding into MTN Business Namibia this year, paving the for MTN Namibia evolution. In the new company structure, Mr Nghipondoka is replacing Swaziland MTN Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ambrose Dlamini, who was previously MTN Business Namibia Board Chairperson. Mr Dlamini remains a member of the MTN Namibia Board of Directors, together with Mr Elia Tsouros (MD, MTN Namibia and Botswana), Mr Solomon Nemaire (MD, Profile Investment Holdings), Mr Charles Molapisi (CEO, MTN Zambia), Mr Ebenezer Asante (VP, MTNSEAGHA region) and Mr Sandile Ntsele (CFO, MTNSA). Mr Godfrey Motsa (CEOMTN South Africa), has agreed to step down from the MTN Business Namibia Board. We thank him for his leadership and guidance. With a background in substantial commercial experience, Mr Nghipondoka as in coming Chairperson of the Board, will focus on assisting in formulating as trategy for MTN Namibia in the area of mobile telephony services and ICT services, including increasing the company’s focus on new revenue streams. His wide and relevant experience is also expected to further boost the existing management team, consistent with the anticipated trajectory of the MTN Group and its BRIGHT strategy which focuses on Best customer experience, returns and efficiencies, igniting commercial performance, growth through data and digital, hearts and minds and technology excellence. Although he has only been with MTN Namibia for a short time, Mr Nghipondoka has been impressed by the company’s experienced team, and its achievements and innovation. He said the board’s investment over the past few years–intechnology like mobile internet–is exciting and his goal is to build on that investment. Said Mr Nghipondoka: “I am honoured by this position, and as a Board our focal point will be about consolidating those investments made; and to come up with new strategies to enhance our network, technology, and expertise throughout Namibia. “The company strategy is aimed at growth through digital and all about driving technology excellence, hence we are also excited for customers to see and discover more offerings from MTN Namibia and what we can do for them.” Mr Nghipondoka was born in Okalongo and schooled at Onesi. He holds a Diploma in Business Administration from the Polytechnic of Namibia. He is an integral member of the Namibian business fraternity. Mr Tsouros has a Bcomand Bcom Hons degree from the University of South Africa specialising in finance. He brings a diverse set of international business experience, having previously worked in various management roles across the telecommunications industry and most recently the Sales Director for MTN Group Enterprise. Mr Nemaire holds an MBA, among other qualifications, and has previously worked for reputable local firms in a senior capacity, and is currently the driving force atProfile Investment Holdings. Messrs Asante, Dlamini, Molapisi and Ntsele all hold various qualifications and have been part of the MTN Group for many years, and bring a wealth of knowledge and diverse experience to the Board. Training comes to Africa The fitness brand which seems to be taking over the industry will make its debut in Walvis Bay by mid-January 2018, making it the first of the franchise to open in Africa. F45 Training is being described as 'the world's fastest growing functional training network', as it focuses on creating a grouptraining facility that features the most dynamic and effective training styles to date, providing a simple, effective, and resultsdriven approach to fitness. The business was launched four years ago in Sydney Australia by former equities trader Rob Deutsch and Adam Gilchrist has already spanned to 26 countries. The brand, whose celebrity fans include Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman, has more than 850 franchises worldwide. The concept is structured on 45 minutes of functional training, which is what the studio will offer, a different 45 minute highintensity, circuit training workout class everyday throughout the week. The "F" means functional and the 45 is for the number of minutes per workout. F45 prides itself on variety and constant change of equipment. Each exercise is no more than 60 seconds, then you rotate to different stations, do different rounds and
continue. It's like a high volume workout that doesn't allow you to get bored. But, don't worry: There are rest periods in between some sets. With 3,500 exercises put together in the F45 program, the possibilities are tremendous. There are no mirrors allowed ; this is not a place to show off. This is a place for people to get fit at any level. All the classes will be linked online and via an application, which mem-bers can use to book or schedule their classes ahead of time – catering to convenience. A dedicated runner who had been recovering from injury decided to try F45. She needed something that motivated her and keep her going. Plato-brothers featured at Safland Sevens History were made last Saturday when the brothers Aurelio and Chad Raggies Plato played side-by-side for the Namibia Sevens Rugby Team at the Safland Sevens in Swakopmund. The Namibian team ended seventh overall in the tournament. The Namibia Academy team performed very good at the Safland Sevens Saturday in Swakopmund. The Academy team finished top in Pool B, as they were unbeaten in all their Pool games. The Academy consisted of senior players and players from the National U/20 National Team. Kenya beat South Africa’s Select team 19-12 in the final. The Pool game between these two teams was won by the South Africans. The Namibian National Seventh Team was third. Kenya won their semi-final against the Namibia Academy Team 38-0. Kenya beat the Namibian Team 12-0 in their Pool game. The results of Saturday were as follows: 1. Kenya 2. Pro-Ed Academy The Acting CEO of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU), Elizma Theron, this week said Namibia has a lot of player potential for Sevens, as there are many players wishing to play Sevens rugby only. Adding the Union will its best to get sponsors for a National Sevens Rugby League. Theron said the NRU will start a campaign early next year to ensure more international teams are invited to participate in the Safland Sevens.

Allan Martin and Jan Everson in action at the 49th Tara Rally IT's all systems go for Allan Martin and Jan Everson from Walvis Bay for the 49th Tara Rally which will gets underway today at 15:30 at the Tony Rust Race Track in Windhoek. The two harbour town drivers will compete against 14 other Namibian competitors. The Rally has 17 stages in and around Windhoek. The first two stages will be at Rocky Crest and Prosperita and that back to the Tony Rust Race Track where the rest of the action will be for the first day of this two day motor sport event. Two special stages will see drivers racing in pairs on the race track. Saturday morning the 7th and 8th stages will again be in the vicinity of Rocky Crest and Prosperita and than the drivers will be in the vicinity of Aris, Harmony, Omeya and ODI for more stages. The final stage will be held at the Tony Rust Race Track again at 14h30. The prize giving ceremony is scheduled for 19:30 at Tony Rust. Allan Martin and his navigator Derek Jacobs in their VW Polo are one of the favourites. “For the past six years I have competed as a rally driver with Melvin Gous as my navigator in a Volkswagen Polo S2000. I competed in a total of 19 rallies, of which I had 5 retirements. In 2012, I got 1st overall in the National Championship in Class S3. In 2013 I competed in the following Rallies: The Bay Rally, V-Power Swakopmund Rally, Bank Windhoek Azurite Tsumeb Rally, Cymot Rally Windhoek and Tara Rally.

In the Walvis Bay Rally, Swakopmund Rally I ended 2nd in my Class and 3rd overall, Bank Windhoek Azurite Tsumeb Rally, Shell cattle Country Rally ended 2nd overall and 2nd in Class S3, Cymot Automotive Windhoek Rally and 46th Total Tara. In 2015, I spread my wings and started competing in Western Cape South Africa. There I competed in the Ceres Toyota Rally as well as Swartland Rally and ended in second in the NRC. At the Okahandja Shell V-Power Rally, Bank Windhoek Azurite Tsumeb Rally I finished 2nd overall and 1st in Class C4, Shell V-Power Cattle Country Rally I ended 2nd overall and 1st in Class S4, Hemco Windhoek Rally I ended 4th overall and 2nd in Class S4. Walvis Bay Rally, Swakopmund Rally I finished 1st Overall and Tara Rally ending 3rd Overall. In 2017, I won the 1000 Dunes Rally Walvis Bay and this year I will be entering the 49th Tara Rally with Derek Jacobs as my Navigator. Derek Jacobs has a long association with the Tara Rally as an organiser and official. This will be his 3rd attempt as navigator having finished 10th Overall on his first attempt back in 1996. He competed in South Africa with VW, Toyota and Team Total and comes with a wealth of experience. In 2017, he navigated for Richard Slamet and Oswaldo Mendes in the Western Cape, winning 2 rallies with Richard and 1

with Oswaldo. As this is his 3rd Namibian driver this year, let's hope it will be a case of third time lucky. Jan Everson (driver) and Fanie Botes (navigator) started their rally career as rookies together in 2012 in a Seal Consulting Engineers rebuilt Ford Ikon 1600i. The Ford Ikon was replaced by a purpose-built Riekus Schmidt VW Polo 1600i and their first class won came in 2013 when they won the Total Tara Rally in Class S1. This success was repeated at the Total Tara Rally in 2014 by winning the S1 class again in the Seal Consulting Engineers VW Polo 1600i. The 1600i engine was replaced in 2015 with a Dave Ingle 2 lt FSI 16V engine with a second place in the S2 class on both the Tsumeb- and Gobabis Rally respectively and a class win at the Total Tara Rally in 2015. The 2016 and 2017 season was littered with mechanical failures with a lot of DNF (did not finish) and DNS (did not start). The team is looking forward to finish this Tara.
