Eileen van der Schyff A 30-year-old Walvis Bay resident, Gabriela Jacobs, remains hospitalised in the Welwitschia Private Hospital in a serious condition, after the vehicle in which she traveled on the B2 coastal road slammed into a truck near Langstrand on Wednesday evening. Jacobs was driving from the direction of Swakopmund with her hatchback vehicle when she collided with a truck which was driving from the direction of Walvis Bay. The vehicle hit the oncoming truck on the right hand front corner of the cab. The truck veered off the road and Jacobs' vehicle came to a standstill some hundred meters further. Rescue equipment “jaws of life” had to be applied by the Walvis Bay fire brigade to free the injured Jacobs from the wrecked vehicle. Since the accident on Wednesday evening, renewed calls came from the public over the use of the coastal road by trucks. It was explained by West Coast Safety Initiative the road behind the dunes (MR44) are still under construction as a dual carriage way and until construction work concludes in 2020, a lot of truck operators opt to rather use the coastal road.

The Bank of Namibia this week in its latest Monetary Policy Statement said domestic economic activity continued to slow down in the first six month of 2019. The slowdown is reflected in the mining-, construction-, electricity-, wholesale- and retail sectors. At the moment we offer all our products in 500g size and is currently conducting production tests for 1kg sizes”, further explained Glen-Spyron. The production process in short entails the raw chicken, beef or beans added to any of the sauces and then sealed in a durable pouch. The product is then steamed in a retort process. The consumer can reheat the product in the pouch by simply microwaving it, dipping the pouch in a bowl of boiled water or heat it up in a pot or pan on a stove or fire. “What we have here is a product unique in every way. It does not have to be stored in a refrigerated or cool environment like conventional food items. The product stays fresh and nutritious in hot temperatures, as long as it remains sealed. It is also highly nutritious and pack sizes can feed a small family or larger families. The products can also be added together, like for instance the beans and gizzards or the beans and the chicken livers for larger families staying together. African Deli is busy with finishing touches to their production facility, located in the new industrial area of Walvis Bay. Workers are all experts in their respective fields of the production process and Glen-Spyron added African Deli takes great pride in the fact that it imports raw products and add value locally and also provide much needed employment and trade opportunities. “We are also looking to add horse mackerel to our range of products and in this way our local fishing industry would be our supplier of choice”, concluded Glen-Spyron. The African Deli and the Walvis Bay Round Table 36 recently pulled together forces to provide a total of 86 000 meals to needy people countrywide. The African Deli's range of food products proved to be effective as the distribution needed no refrigerated transport as it can stay fresh for up to 24 months in temperatures of up to 55 Degrees Celsius. It was easy to warm up (3 minutes) to provide the needy with a plate of hot, nutritious food to weather the biting cold. The Rotary Club of Walvis Bay had delivery points across Namibia numbering more than 33. “Deadly Medicine” exhibition is both provocative and disturbing Exhibition sheds light on how the Nazi’s developed its theory of “superior race” The `Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race' exhibition is currently on show at the new gallery space at the Lüderitz Maritime Museum in Lüderitz in !Nami#Nus Constituency in Karas Region. The exhibition was officially launched in the region by Cllr. Jan Scholtz, the Chairperson of the //Kharas Regional Council, speaking on behalf of the Governor, Hon. Lucia Basson. The exhibition opened on 6th August and will run until 30th August 2019 and is a significant contribution to anti-racist education in Namibia. The speech explained that the exhibition is provocative and disturbing, but very important and relevant to Namibia. The educational exhibition traces the way in which ideas of `Race' were constructed. Cllr Scholtz pointed out that the discredited `science' of Eugenics which formed the basis for the racist belief that some races were superior to others was developed by Francis Galton, one of the first British visitors to Namibia. The exhibition also refers to the German scientist, Dr Eugene Fischer, who wrote about the Rehoboth Basters and then returned to Germany and became the Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Anthrop o l o g y, H u m a n Heredity and Eugenics. The exhibition was developed by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and so the bulk of the exhibition focuses on the way in which eugenics influenced the Holocaust. The Nazi regime in Germany was founded on the conviction that “inferior” races, including the so-called Jewish race, and individuals had to be eliminated from German society so that the fittest “Aryans” could thrive. The Nazi state fully committed itself to implementing a uniquely racist and anti-Semitic variation of eugenics to “scientifically” build what it considered to be a
“superior race.” By the end of World War II, six million Jews had been murdered. Millions of others also became victims of persecution and murder through Nazi “racial hygiene” programs designed to cleanse Germany of “biological threats” to the nation's “health,” including “foreignblooded” Roma and Sinti (Gypsies), persons diagnosed as “hereditarily ill,” and homosexuals. Gawub is accused of allegedly attacking and threatening the 26-year-old complainant before forcing himself on her on Monday this week at the Spitzkoppe area. According to Erongo Region Crimes Coordinator, Erastus Iikuyu the suspect grabbed the complainant while she was on her way home from a local bar, strangled, and threatened to kill her if she refused to have sex with him. 90 000 tons of salt loaded
Two cargo vessels are scheduled to load a total of 90 000 metric tons of salt in the port of Walvis Bay in the next few days. The first alongside is Skua (pictured above) which as from today until the 22nd of August is scheduled to load 50 000 tons of bulk salt. Wage agreement signed Rudi Bowe
Kuiseb Fishing Enterprises (KFE) and the Namibia Fishing Industry and Fisherman Workers Union (NFI & FWU) signed a recognition and procedural agreement on Wednesday, 7 August in Walvis Bay. KFE and NFI& FWU have agreed to enter into there cognition and procedural agreement to simply manage industrial relations between both parties. The agreement lays down procedures to be followed in terms of engaging both parties and seeking reasonable and satisfactory solution to matters of common interest. KFE General Manager Albert Samakupa said at the signing event that KFE has invested about N$300 million over the years in the fishing sector through earnings generated from harvesting marine resources as made possible through the fishing rights and annual quota granted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. Samakupa added that this has resulted in the creation of 81 jobs at Kuiseb and its subsidiaries and also contributed to the employ-
ment of 38 foreign and 294 Namibians at Hodago Fishing, a joint venture with its partners Gendev and Venmar. KFE remains committed towards creating more sustainable jobs through investments in the fisheries sector. We are considering to introduce an equity based participation of employees through a workers trust and employees are to benefit directly through dividends paid by the trust. This envisaged projects and plans will be realised if KFE fishing right is renewed early 2020 and quota granted annually as per norm” Samakupa added. KFE allowed their employees to join the Union of their choice. And in this case it was NFI & FWU. This made the said union the most important stakeholder for KFE that need to be engaged to promote a pleasant working relationship between the company and the employees. The President of NFI & FWU Daniel Imbili said that that the signing of the 3 recognition agreements is a historical day in the existence of KFE and that it will pave a healthy working relationship between the employer, employees and the union. Gone are the years when both parties have treated each other as enemies. We wish to see peace within the fishing industry and all parties to acknowledge each other as partners” Imbili added. Imbili said “We at NFI & FWU would like to see an employer and employee relation establish on a sound healthy relationship when evil af strike will be something of the past and KFE take the lead in the fishing industries in terms of making its employees partners within the company”. Imbili added that NFI & FWU is confident that the Minister of Fisheries will look with a different eye to fishing companies who comply with the score card criteria's set out by his office when applying for quotas. Imbili would like the KFE management to have an open door policy as this will build trust within the employees by feeling not left out or excluded in decision making without being consulted.

From Swakopmund to Moscow Raised in the coastal town of Swakopmund, Aina Talishi Ihambo graduated as a medical practitioner in Russia in June this year. Aina attended Swakopmund Primary School and completed her Grade 12 at Namib High School in Swakopmund. Namib Times interviewed her recently upon her arrival back on Namibian soil. Talking about her upbringing, Aina praised the role that Mondesa Youth Opportunities (MYO), a non-profit organisation that runs an afternoon
school program in Mondesa, played in her life. It helped her to achieve what she has today. Aina joined MYO in 2009. “At the time I joined MYO, I guess I was still narrow minded. MYO however, opened my mind and see life and myself from a different perspective. Aina completed her studies in Moscow after six years of intense studies and very, very hard work “I used to read a lot at school. I didn't have so many friends. When I was at MYO, I always took advantage of reading books and participate in competitions. I won these competitions a few times. My love for reading helped me get through my studies, as medical studies involves an incredible amount of reading”, explained Aina. Aina hails from a family of teachers. She explained her initial motivation for choosing the field of medicine was she wanted to do something different. Different than for instance from pursuing a career in education. Aina's ultimate vision is to specialise as a pediatrician. She admits there were challenging times for her in faraway Russia, but said it is important to remember your vision and keep focused on what you want to achieve. Aina had an opportunity last week to address a group of Grade 7 and 8 learners in Swakopmund and shared with them her journey from the township to Moscow. Her encouragement and motivation for the pupils was clear and precise. “Time flies. Use your time at school wisely and focus on what you want to achieve.” Having taken

August gab es jeweils ein Konzert in Walvis Bay und Swakopmund, um den dürregeplagten Farmern unter die Arme zu greifen. Die Initiative kam von Wilna Music und ihrem Damenchor der Küste namens Cgals (Seemöwen oder -mädchen). Aufgetreten sind an der International School der Hafenstadt und in der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Kirche in Swakopmund nicht nur die Cgals, sondern auch der Chor der International

Liebe Küstenleser! In gut zwei Monaten, nämlich am 30. Oktober, wird wieder der internationale Weltspartag gefeiert. Ausgerufen hat ihn der italienische Professor Ravizza im Jahre 1924. Wenn ich katholisch erzogen worden wäre, hätte ich jetzt eine Beichte abgelegt, aber nun gebe ich es hiermit einfach unumwunden zu: Ich habe mir als Kind sogar mal in die Hose gepinkelt, weil meine Freundinnen mir dafür einen Rand versprochen hatten. Meine Maats hatten ihren Spaß - einen gewaltigen Lachkrampf und ich meinen. Mit dem Rand konnte ich mir nämlich ein Creamy Toffee kaufen. Das bedeutete ein stundenlanges Herumziehen und -lutschen an einer ziemlich zähen Karameltafel, also pures Nirvana! Und ich brauchte mein mühsam Zusammengespartes fürs Putzen der diversen Schuhe meiner siebenköpfigen Familie nicht anzuzapfen. Und dann gab es na-

Der Gegenstand absoluter Freude aus meiner Kindheit scheint zum Zwecke der Werbung für Kreditinstitute und zum Sammelgegenstand reduziert worden zu sein. Das ist jammerschade, denn solch ein gewölbtes Haustier mit Schlitz oben und abschließbarem Stöpsel unten ist eigentlich ein Sparschwein fürs Leben. Wer nämlich von klein auf gelernt hat, wie man mit Geld umgeht und spart, bzw. dass man ein Sparschwein wie ein echtes Schwein mit Futter - erst mit Münzen füllen muss, bevor es geschlachtet werden sollte, der hat meiner Meinung nach Schwein gehabt. FNB Betterball Stableford at Rossmund On Saturday 10 August 40 golfers played some of their best golf at the annual First National Bank (FNB) Betterball Stableford Competition at Rossmund Golf Course. Stuart Salt outdid himself by shooting a “Hole in One” on Number 7. 2-clubs went to Stanley Gawanab, Lesley Stevens and Stuart Salt – wow Stuart your eye was really in. A 3-way count out on 48 points was needed to determine the winners. The results on the day were Stanley Gawanab and Bradley Gawanabin the first place with 48 points, Gary Knight and Stuart Salt second on 48 points, in third place was Justine Shikulo and Helmut Ndjendja 48 points and Michael Tordesillas and Bruno Romero fourth on 45 points. It was a fantastic day of brilliant golf and a great sponsor. It was time to burn out some I Tyres on Wednesday 7 August with a good field of players including Christopher Durant and as always lots of buzz in the clubhouse. The Nearest to the Pin on Number 7 was won by Chris Wood. Bruce Burns had the longest day at the office whilst Likuis Nande took home the 9-hole prize with a wellplayed 20 points over the front. Our 18-hole winner with an outstanding 45 points was Dougie Smith. He came into the clubhouse looking quite shell shocked and battled to explain how it had happened. Gert seems to think that this is a record for Rossmund. Let us know if you beg to differ; in Second place was Warren Theron

This past weekend seven bowlers from the coast participated against twenty bowlers from the central clubs in the annual Glenbrynth Senior Pairs Tournament for the eighteenth consecutive year. This tournament sponsored by Glenbrynth and hosted by TransNamib Bowling Club was open to mixed bowlers over 50. Four games were played on Saturday and two on Sunday. The format this year deviated from that of previous years where a random draw took place for the first round. After that, in the following five rounds, teams played strength against strength until the ultimate winners emerged in the final round. The tournament attracted more bowlers than could be accommodated as Transnamib Bowling Club only accept 14 teams since the most rinks the green can be strung for is seven. The competition this year was won by Kiewiet Rust (Transnamib) and Erna Muller (Windhoek Bowling Club). Second were Avril Kotze (Rossmund) and her son, Desmond van der Smit (Windhoek Bowling Club). In third place were Willie Esterhuizen and Caryl Andreas (both TransNamib Bowling Club), while last year's winners, Horst Zimny and Renette de Kock finished fourth with both from Windhoek Bowling Club. Namibia hostS first ever T20 Internationals Cricket Namibia will be hosting a 4-match T20 Internationals series against Botswana Cricket Association that will take place in Windhoek. This is very exciting as it will be the first-ever T20 Internationals played on Namibian soil. The T20I fixtures are scheduled to take place on 19 August-23 August 2019 at the Trustco United Sports Ground. The Eagles are pleased to welcome BCA after their last encounter in Uganda whereby Namibia beat Botswana by 10 wickets with 97 balls left. The two teams will however also play two friendly 50 Over games on Sunday, 18 August and on Saturday, 24 August at 09:30. The Head Coach of the National Men's team, Pierre De Bruyn is excited to play their first T20 Internationals on home soil against Botswana. “From a team's perspective, it gives us an opportunity to get our combinations right with our T20 Global competition in October, to get players in certain roles, and most importantly its four T20 games so its preparations and match time for the guys who haven't
played a lot of cricket since May in Uganda. This is a great opportunity for the guys to get match time and to keep on measuring ourselves against other teams. We have worked hard in the nets and training but there is nothing better than match time for the guys. There is strong competition in the squad and guys are fighting for places in the team which is very healthy for us and it will give us some good information next week as coaches and selectors on what that final squad of 15 will look like going to Dubai in October”.
