The organising committee of the Namibia Music Awards (NAMA's0) hosted an information sharing session in Swakopmund at Swakopmund Sands Hotel this past Saturday with artist based in the Erongo region as part of the ongoing NAMA information session with potential artists. The main aim of the information session was to ensure that all the artists and entertainment journalists were acquainted with the NAMA entry prerequisites, rules and regulations, and how to enter via online. The NAMA call to entry opened on 19 October and will be closed on 2 December this year which means the artist who have not entered yet an approximate time of three weeks in total. At the information sharing session the artists/musicians that were present had many questions to ask particularly on the entry procedures and rules and regulations of the competition as well as how winners for certain categories are chosen. According to John Ekongo the Corporate Communications Officer of MTC and also member of the organizing committee, all recordings submitted for the Namibia Music Awards must have been commercially released (in other words first made available for sale by any recognized retail trade) in Namibia during the period 1 December 2015 to 30 November 2016, “but only commercially released during the entry period will qualify for entry on condition that written proof of release details for the entry period is submitted together with the fully completed entry”. Ekongo said Public votes will commence in February 2017 (date to be announced), the public can use the following codes to vote: Song of the Year (Voting ID -SOY), Most Disciplined Artist of the Year (Voting ID – MDA), Best Live Performance (Voting ID – BLP), Best Musical Event of the Year (Voting ID – BME), Radio DJ of The Year (Voting ID – RDJ), Entertainment Journalist of the Year (Voting ID – EJY) and Pan African Artist of the Year (Voting ID – AAY). NAMA 2017 take place on 28 and 29 April 2017, the venue will be announced before the end of the month. The NAMA steering committee are reviewing proposals from various locations to host NAMA 2017, the towns that are in the bid for hosting the NAMA 2017 are Ongwediva, Windhoek and Oshakati. “Swakopmund have the perfect venue for hosting the NAMA but it is very unfortunate to say that Swakopmund will not host the NAMA next year because they did not give us a bid this year” said Ekongo. “It is alleged that the suspect pulled the victim to the riverbed near Sundowner Bar and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. The victim thereafter lured (persuaded) the suspect to accompany her to her house No 226, Uis location thinking that her daughter is home to identify the suspect” explained Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo region who confirmed the incident. It is further alleged that there was no one at home and the suspect raped the victim for the second time again. Iikuyu said according to the victim, she was very drunk at the time of the incident and she only reported the matter to the police the following morning around 09:00. No arrest was made the and investigation continues. In another incident which took place at Otjimbingwe, an out of school twelve-year-old girl was raped by two suspects in October and November at Farm Aunschlusch, about 100 kilometres from Otjimbingwe. According to Iikuyu the acts are said to have taken place on two different occasions at the residence of the alleged culprits and it only came to light after the victim's father noticed that the girl was not walking properly and he confronted her. The two suspects were due to appear in the Karibib Magistrate Court yesterday.

Driver dies after crashing stolen car Sharlien Tjambari

A case culpable homicide was opened at Karibib police station after the driver lost control of a Toyota pick-up with registration number N78862W he was driving without the owner's consent, the car overturned and the driver died on the scene. According to Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo region, it is alleged that an employee at farm Auchabis, Otjimbingwe area, the deceased whose name is known to this paper but cannot be mentioned as his next of kin are not yet informed, and his two co-workers took the car from their workplace while the owner of the car and also farm owner was in Windhoek, without his consent and drove to Otjimbingwe/ Karibib. It is also alleged that the driver was not having a driver's license. Iikuyu said the date and time the trio took the car from the farm is not yet known. It is further alleged that on 13 November about at about 07:00 while they were returning to the farm on D1953 gravel road about 15 kilometres outside Otjimbingwe towards the southern direction the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. The alleged driver died on the scene. Passenger Festus Kashikanda (37) sustained injuries and was admitted at Usakos State Hospital and the second passenger, Wulfried Windstaan (25) was treated at Usakos hospital for minor injuries and was discharged. Police investigation into this matter continues.

On Sunday, 13 November between 14:00 and 16:00 a man discovered the body of a fully developed newborn baby in a waste skip behind the cemetery in Tiras Street, Tulinawa location in Mondesa. Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo region who confirmed the incident. It is alleged the man discovered the body of a newborn baby while he was busy searching for empty bottles in the garbage skip. Chief Inspector Iikuyu further said that it is suspected that the baby have been born the morning of the same day (Sunday). A case of concealment of birth was opened, the case number is CR18/11/16. The suspect is unknown to Nampol and the investigations continues. Anyone with information of a possible suspect is urged to contact the nearest police station.

Restaurant 22°South closedNamPort cancels lease agreement Erwin Leuschner

The popular restaurant at the base of the Swakopmund lighthouse, 22° South, has closed its doors at the end of October after the lease agreement with the owner of the property, NamPort, was terminated. The restaurant owner, Silvio Magri, will still continue with the frozen food product line. Initially the lease agreement between the Namibian Port Authority (NamPort) and the owner of 22° South was for a ten year period – and should have ended in 2020. Last year NamPort gave one year notice and terminated the lease. Magri closed the restaurant at the end of October. He did not get a reason why the lease was terminated though. “The property in question has been identified as of strategic National interest. This resulted in the termination of the lease agreement,” the Corporate Communications Officer at NamPort, Jo-Ann Stevens, said to namib times. She added that the property under question will not be available for leasing in future. “It will no longer be available to the public, or to any private individual.” Mmagri ran the restaurant 22° South for six years, before that there used to be an established coffee shop. The property was especially popular with tourists and locals alike in part due to the atmosphere and the spectacular view it offered over the Mole area. “It was a beautiful place. We revamped it nicely for the restaurant,” Magri said. Since the closure Magri has since continued with his frozen food products, which are readily available at supermarkets across the country. The handmade frozen Pizzas, which can quickly be warmed up in the oven, are produced in a warehouse in the Swakopmund industrial area. Now he intends to expand the frozen product range to include amongst others like Goulash or Ravioli with a cheese sauce. “We are also working on desserts like Tiramisu but this that is still in the pipeline,” he said. Magri was in the meantime forced to retrench his staff of 14 people. “It is quite sad. We never got a reason why the lease was terminated,” he said. What does NamPort intend to do with the property in future? “Further utilisation will be discussed with all relevant stakeholder(s) and government bodies,” was the answer.

In addition, a general cargo vessel and a multi-purpose vessel calls tomorrow, to load and discharge bulk and break bulk cargo. Immanuel Ruiters inaugurates boundary wall Piquet Jacobs

Learners and staff of Immanuel Ruiters Primary School enthusiastically inaugurated their newly built boundary wall on Wednesday morning. The wall comes as a donation by A Armas Stevedoring Services in an aim to provide the school with more safety and security. The wall previously had a large section removed to make way for building contractors whilst building new classrooms, the school and the company was at an agreement to have the section replaced, but the company allegedly failed to do so. In April 2014, a learner of the school, Lavinia Nghishekwa, ran through this gap in the wall into the street and was hit by an oncoming vehicle, killing the girl instantly. Following the incident, it became apparent that the school raised several concerns in writing months before the tragedy to the Erongo Regional Education Directorate to have the removed section replaced, as it posed a danger to learners who leave the school's premises through it.

When it comes to the house insurance, Melissa informs customers that everyone should plan early for insurance. “In Namibia, some insurers deem the period between 15 November to 15 January a highrisk time and will not accept new clients, except under certain circumstances” Furthermore, all insurers have specified condi-tions under which they agree to insure the pos-sessions, the most important one being the security measures. She advises: “Check your policy schedule. If a loss occurs and there is a discrepancy between what you have declared and what is actually present you may face a limited pay-out, or your claim will not be enter-tained. Make sure what your burglary excess would be. If you have an alarm system, have it tested before you leave. Lock both the outside and inside doors and close all windows, except the cat's.” Other checking mechanisms – as advised by FNB Insurance Brokers – should include switching off the geyser and closing the main water connection; switching off all wall plugs of electronic devices to avoid power surge or light-ning damage and making sure fridges and free-zers are switched on and plugged in. “Here is an additional tip - Surge protection devices are available from electronics or hardware retailers. Some wall socket multi-port adapters also have built-in surge protection, check if its indicated on the adapter.” “Lastly, it is also advisable to create the illusion that you are at home and this can be done with a few simple strategies,” advises Melissa. Fit "fake" cameras (available from security shops) outside your home. Invest in a few timer devices, which can be set not only to lights, but also to the television. Get a responsible and trust-worthy friend or relative to home-sit or make unscheduled visits. Pay a distant cousin or neigh-bourhood teenager (and his friends) to paint your front wall or fixtures during your absence.Last - but definitely not least - make sure your pet(s) get the food, water and attention they deserve and love - this is a no-brainer. If this is not possible, book them into the SPCA or a dog bed and breakfast. They do not deserve to be left alone.”

Standard Bank raises over N$18 000 for Diabetes Awareness MEDIA RELEASE: Standard Bank in collaboration with the Namibia Diabetes Lifestyle Foundation recently raised an impressive N$18 275.00 for the foundation's Denim for Diabetes day. The annual fund raising activity saw the bank's employees rally together to buy awareness stickers in support of Diabetic patients. These proceeds will be used by the foundation to support 12 underprivileged children with Type 1 diabetes. The funds will pay for their insulin cartridges, tests strips and doctor consultation fees for a

month. November is Diabetes Awareness month and 14 November is World Diabetes Day, however Denim for Diabetes day was commemorated on 11 November at Standard Bank. 2016 FNB Sages tournament ends at Rossmund The FNB Annual Interbranch SAGES Tournament ended at Rossmund GC on Friday evening, 4 November with a gala dinner and prize-giving. Brian Kandanga, Area Sales and Service Manager for FNB Namibia welcomed the atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the players and confirmed that FNB would continue their support of this prestigious event on the Senior Golf Calendar. The bank has been a proud supporter of this event for numerous years and has given an amount of N$ 40 000.00. A record field of over 90 players took part during the week.In the team competition, the local Kestrel's – consisting of Tony Boesch; Athol McLean; Mark Jacobs and Achmet Abrahams - were already ahead after day two – coming out winners with a total of 440pts. In second place was the Coastal Seniors Team on 425pts followed by Coral Cobras from Windhoek GC on 413pts. Overall individual winners were “A” Div: Tim Botha 148pts (RGC); “B” Div: George Gariseb 143pts (WGC); “C” Div: Navin Morar 127pts (WGC). Outgoing President of SAGES Namibia, Arthur Samuelson (WGC) thanked all stakeholders and then handed over the duties to the newly
