Contrary to his statement to the court, the Governor allegedly made no less than four public appearances in Walvis Bay in the period he claimed to be in quarantine. These occasions include: the raid on a Chinese businessman who allegedly sold tea as a Covid-19 remedy, the handover of an isolation ward at the Walvis Bay state hospital and receiving the Namibia Defense Force’s field hospital at Walvis Bay. Andre is dragged to court by Mrs Sonja Olivier, well-known in gymnastics circles at the coast. Oli-
vier demanded Andre retract and apologise for a racially charged remark he allegedly circulated in the gymnastics fraternity last year, claiming he was discriminated against for a senior position “because he is black”. The matter could not be resolved adequately leading to Mrs Olivier instituting a civil claim against the Governor. The matter beteween Olivier and Andre took place before his appointment as Governor of Erongo a few months ago.

Namibia’s Vice-President Nangolo Mbumba warned Walvis Bay citizens on Tuesday that the curve of Coronavirus infections in the local authority is steep. People will start to pay the price by becoming infected with the Coronavirus and becoming ill, possibly facing the worst: Covid-19 infection. “I plead with the people of Walvis Bay to cooperate”, said the Vice-President when he was given the floor during President Hage Geingob’s national address at State House on the extension of the Covid-19 State of Emergency measures for the Erongo Region and the three local authorities of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Arandis. President Hage Geingob earlier in the announcement said Namibia must brace itself. “This is no joke. If you watch television you see people dying. That is a disaster and we must prepare for bad times”, the President is quoted. Meanwhile, residents of the Erongo Region and in particular the local authority areas of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Arandis are urged to do their part to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. The most powerful weapon is in the hands of the people: SOCIAL DISTANCING. People are urged to practise social distancing as a matter of life and death. Prevent crowded areas and stay clear from gatherings. Social distancing has three great friends. Washing hands regularly, prevent touching your facial areas near the mouth, nose and eyes with dirty hands and wearing a face mask.

Seaflower “Paying It Forward’’ Lüderitz is the latest Namibian coastal town to record a positive Coronavirus case. A crewman aboard a fishing vessel tested positive at this Southern Namibian town, bringing Namibia’s total confirmed Coronavirus cases to 615. The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, confirmed this in a statement yesterday in which it was also said that 20 new cases were recorded in Walvis Bay yesterday and one confirmed case at Oshakati. Of the 615 new cases, 25 recoveries have been recorded so far. Namibia remains blessed with zero Covid-19 deaths. There is now 590 active cases (total minus recovered); 1 329 active contacts that has to be followed up and 844 people in quarantine. Note: The person that tested positive at Oshakati is a contact of an already confirmed case in the Oshana Region.

A certain energy drink gives you wings, but in the case of Air Namibia the High Court of Namibia handed the air carrier back its wings on Wednesday night. On Wednesday, the Transportation Commission of Namibia suspended Air Namibia's scheduled Air Services License, on account the airline is bankrupt, has only received some 12 % of its budget from the Namibian Government for the year ahead and thirdly that the airline has no prospects of getting back on its feet financially again. Continued from page 1 The Commission gave Air Namibia until 22 July to bring to the table investors which could settle the airline's monstrous heap of creditors and provide capital to continue operations. Air Namibia's non-scheduled Air Service License was allowed to continue for the duration of Namibia's National State of Emergency Covid-19, in the event the airline needs to conduct emergency repatriations and evacuations.
With only hours before the suspension came into force at one minute to midnight on Wednesday evening, Air Namibia turned to the High Court of Namibia to challenge the suspension. The Court ruled in favour of the airline which in essence allows it now to continue operations. The Transportation Board now has until 3 August this year to convince the High Court that Air Namibia's operations licenses must be suspended.

The electric Uri, called the Fonk, is powered by a 15Kw permanent magnet, brushless 235 newton motor. The vehicle is sturdy, its strong and can reach a top speed of 75 km/hour. The vehicle is powered by a Lithium ion EV battery (180V, 28kw/h), with a ten years lifespan. The vehicle has a range of 100 to 150km and the battery charges in 5 to 10 hours (220V). Fonk is produced Smith Special Vehicles, under the leadership of Len Smith. Smith’s father was the founder of Uri. The vehicles are built at the company’s production facility near Koës in Southern Namibia. Namib Times has been told that the first customer to take delivery of this allelectric vehicle is Mr Dirk de Bod, a well-known game farmer and professional hunter. The Uri is no newcomer to the coast. It is in use by some tour operators and remain one of Namibia's prime export products. Additional sports measures for Erongo Rudi Bowe
The Namibian Sports Commission (NSC) announced additional measures applicable for the Local Authority Areas of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Arandis who remains under STAGE 3 for a period of 28 days from 7 July 2020 until one minute before midnight, 3 August 2020. The Chief Administrator of the NSC Simataa Mwiya said that public gatherings in the Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Arandis local authority areas are restricted to 10 persons. The rest of the Erongo Region is restricted to 50 people. Mwiya said: “All sport centres and gyms in these local authorities should stay closed and are not allowed to resume in this special dispensation of Stage 3. All the other towns in the region can observe normal stage 3 protocol. As per existing regulations and guidelines under Stage 3, contact sport is High Jump Coach from Swakopmund Hennie Horn strictly prohibited but sports men and women can train individually” Mwiya added. Well-known High Jump Coach from Swakopmund Hennie Horn took the results of the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics 2019 and makes a comparison with some of the local athletes with more than 80% based in Swakopmund. Horn said “It is interesting to see the results, we in Namibia have the talent to get a medal at the Youth Olympic Games, we have to work a lot with the young children to prepare them for the future. “To prepare any young athlete you need at least 3-4 years. That means for youth Olympics you should start at age 12/13 years” Horn added. Horn said “To work with such young athlete does not mean he/she have to go to the gym. No, only get the technique in order and get him to love the sport.”

Senior Female Katate champion Katelin Martin
Katelin Martin (25) a member of the Goju-Kai dojo in Walvis Bay is ranked third at the Senior Female Kata division ETournament.
Katelin is the daughter of former karate world champion and multiple international championship winner, Shihan Leonard Martin won the gold medal in the Senior Female Kata division at the 2020 First Dutch Open ETournament. At earlier E-tournament Kateline won two silver and a bronze medal. She is busy to prepare herself to compete in the Senior Female Kata Division at the World Open E-Tournament.
