A significant ammonia leak on Wednesday this week caused chaos at the Merlus Cormorant factory, with 16 workers affected by the gas exposure.

The incident, initially suspected to have originated within the factory, has since been traced to a Russian-operated crab vessel, the Royal Crab, docked at Pereira Seafood's jetty. According to an official report compiled by Merlus management, the ammonia gas entered the factory through its ventilation system, which faces the direc-
tion of the Pereira Seafood jetty. Workers reported a strong smell of ammonia inside the canteen and locker rooms, prompting an immediate evacuation. Employees affected by the incident have raised serious concerns about the response from management.
