He was contacted by a police officer on Wednesday and warned to appear in court yesterday. Kambueshe was granted bail of N$50 000 and he was told the case would now be transferred to the Windhoek magisterial jurisdiction, as this is where the charges were laid against him. A visibly shaken Kambueshe at the time of going to press yesterday afternoon was attempting to have his bail amount reduced. A request by him that a friend is ready to provide him with N$5000 bail money was declined by the magistrate. The magistrate explained the bail amount of N$50 000 could only be reduced by a Windhoek magistrate, which left Kambueshe with only two options – pay the N$50 000 bail or remain in custody.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security yesterday paid a courtesy call to Namport's Management. The CEO of Namport Mr Bisey Uirab welcomed the delegation and stated that "it is a great honour to be able to share with the attendees on the security procedures that the company has deployed". As an entity Namport has invested resources in the area of security to minimize threat to the company as well as to ensure that security and peace is maintained at all times. The committee's visit was aimed at acquainting themselves with the security setup of Namport, its achievements as well as the challenges the company might face in the area of safety and security. where the ship was at anchorage off the main channel. The ship arrived off Walvis Bay in the small hours of Thursday morning. The ship departed Shanghai in China with the four cranes loaded on her cargo deck on 30 December 2017. The ship arrived in Walvis Bay almost a week ahead of schedule. In true maritime tradition, the arrival of the vessel was announced with a tug of Namport giving the water salute by spraying water in impressive bows from its powerful fire fighting hoses. Witnessing this very historic occasion this morning was several high level dignitaries and guests attending a quay side ceremony alongside on the new container terminal in the port of Walvis Bay. The host was Namport's Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bisey Uirab. Guests included the Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Mr. Qiu Xuejun. Also attending were delegations from the British High Commission in Namibia as well as the Ghanian diplomatic mission in Namibia. Representatives of the Office of the Governor of Erongo attended and the Ministry of Works and Transport was represented by the Deputy Minister James Sankwasa who delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Alpheus !Naruseb. The ship-to-shore cranes were built in China for China Harbour and Engineering Company (CHEC), as part of the N$4,2 billion turnkey port terminal project with Namport as the customer. The Namibian Uranium Association (NUA) has a new chairperson: Percy McCallum. McCallum is the Vice President for Human Resources and Business Support of Swakop Uranium. He was elected with effect 1 January 2018. The new Vice-Chairperson is Werner Duvenhage, Managing Director of Rössing Uranium Ltd. NUA is an independent association representing operating Namibian uranium mines, uranium exploration companies and contractors associated with the industry. The purpose of the association is to promote the development of an efficient uranium industry, committed to world-class standards of best practice, proper environmental management and sustainable

development for the benefit of all stakeholders. As per NUA's constitution, board members elect new candidates for the leadership positions every second year. McCallum takes over the position as chairperson from Hilifa Mbako, the Managing Director of Areva Resources Namibia, who has led NUA during the past two years. Previously, he was the Vice-Chairperson of the Uranium Association. McCallum has been working with Swakop Uranium since 2013 and has a long and excellent record of serving the

Namibian mining industry. Before joining Rössing, Duvenhage served as Managing- Director of Langer Heinrich Uranium. He was previously President of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia and Chairman of the Uranium Stewardship Committee.

3D Museum in the planning for Swakopmund “3D Museums have gained a lot of popularity, especially in Asia, over the past few years. Through optical illusion two-dimensional paintings change into three-dimensional reality”

Erwin Leuschner Swakopmund might soon receive a brand-new tourist attraction, which will not only be unique to Namibia, but - according to the developer - to the entire continent. The development of a 3D Museum (three-dimensional), on a property measuring 20 hectares has received a nod of approval from the Swakopmund Town Council. The application for the unique development was made to Council by the company Robotrino Investments, calling itself an “Agency for Communications”. The application for a piece of land for the development of the 3D Museum was first made in 2017. The property applied for is located on the remainder of portion B of the Swakopmund Town – it is located in the vicinity of the Martin Luther Museum. It measures 20 000 square meters. This 3D Museum promises to be big and the first of its kind in Africa. 3D museums have gained a lot of popularity, especially in Asia, over the past few years. Through optical illusion two-dimensional

paintings are brought into three-dimensional reality. Robotrino's 3D museum will include a “Children 3D painting museum, 3D museum attractions display rooms for SADC countries, and a European countries 3D display hall.” Furthermore, the development will also feature an auditory room, a board room, a professional film and photo studio, a museum conference room, gift and souvenir shops, offices, a ticket box, temporary art and craft exhibition space, a take- away and restaurants. Forming part of the development will be a trade fair and entertainment complex, accommodation facilities as well as an indoor and outdoor desert garden.

81 000 tons of salt loaded in port of Walvis Bay this week

The port of Walvis Bay will see a significant increase in bulk cargo handling over the course of the next week. A total of 81 000 tons of salt will be loaded in four different consignments for exports as well as 23 000 metric tons of sugar discharged for local packing and distribution. The vessel Border calls at Walvis Bay tomorrow (Saturday) to discharge sugar and the general cargo vessel Arslan loads 3000 metric tons of salt. On Sunday the bulker Tong Ji Men loads 40 000 tons of salt, followed by Svenborg on Tuesday (loading 3000 tons of salt). The bulker Bold Voyager loads 35 000 tons of salt next Thursday.

A trip to Namibia's South ended in tragedy on Sunday when Walvis Bay businessman Mr. Manuel Fernandes's vehicle left the road and overturned 23km north of Helmeringhausen on the way to Maltahรถhe. Floris Steenkamp The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) says an estimated 4000 people are entering and exiting the port of Walvis Bay each day. Although it delivers many challenges to access control, the situation remains manageable. This statement was made earlier this week to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security. Incidents of entry permit violations and alterations to entry permits take place, but due to strict security policies and procedures in place in the port of Walvis Bay these incidents are detected and prosecuted. The Standing Committee was told the port of Walvis Bay's safety network consists of several key points which include a 2,5 perimeter fence, guard houses at key

locations that are manned 24/7, fenced off areas within the port's premises, close circuit television that are monitored 24/7, radio communications and intrusion detection systems in all buildings. Namport is looking in the foreseeable future to further enhance its security capacity with the appointment of more security personnel and investments in more and advanced port security and emergency services technology.

Peace officer status soon for Namport security personnel Floris Steenkamp Security personnel of Namport are set to get more teeth to enforce the law in the country's two ports by becoming “peace officers” to enforce among others the Merchant Shipping Act. Although the Namport Act at the current moment does not make provision for security personnel to be sworn in as peace officers, the port's authority explained this week to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security that the issue is now addressing this as a matter of urgency. The Parliamentary Standing Committee visited Walvis Bay this week as part of a wider, national fact finding mission to assess the wider security and crime situation in Namibia. A peace officer's appointment is done under the authority of the Namibian Minister of Justice and empo-

wers law enforcement officers to enforce specific laws. Examples: traffic officials are empowered through the status as peace officers to enforce traffic laws, police officials are appointed as peace officers to enforce the Criminal Procedure Act etc’’. “In the case of Namport security officials, the

An der Atlantikküste,in der Namibwüste Käthe Grosche ist 99 geworden: “Du mein Berlin...” Swakopmund (sk) In “ihrem” Geschäft JB Boysen in der Bismarckstraße hat die Familie einen kleinen Sektempfang zu ihrem 99. G e b u r t s t a g v o rbereitet. Neben mir sitzt eine adrett gekleidete Dame, die sich fröhlich in der Runde umschaut und den Trubel zu genießen scheint. Vor neun Jahren, also im Alter von 90, hat Käthe Grosche noch die Finanzen bei dem Exporteur deutscher Gesundheits- und Reinigungsmittel bearbeitet. “Sie schrieb sämtliche Abrechnungen mit der Hand,” weiß Teresa Grosche über ihre Schwiegermutter zu berichten, und sie fügt hinzu:”Die handgeschriebenen Berechnungen wur-

Anfang der 70er Jahre herrschte jedoch eine große Trockenheit im Nordosten des Landes, und somit kauften die Grosches 1974 den Wholesaler JB Boysen in Swakopmund. Während Vater Groche in seiner Freizeit ein eifriger Tennisspieler war, verbrachte Käthe ihre Freizeit unter anderem als Scharf-

baden. Sie gehörte zu den ersten Strandperlen. Auch wirkte Käthe Grosche in der Theatergruppe von Irmela Erlank mit. Heute trifft sie sich jeden Samstag mit ein paar Freundinnen zum Pläuschchen. Interessant ist, dass viele alte Menschen sich vor allem an die früheste Zeit ihres Lebens besonders gut erinnern. So auch Käthe Grosche. Ohne einmal zu zögern, sang sie Hildegard Knefs “Das ist Berlin” aus-

In ihrem heutigen Zuhause in der Marie Douglas-Pflegestation brachten Anton von Wietersheim und sein Team sowie die Kantorei unter der Leitung von Dörte Witte ihr ein Ständchen, und abends sang der Swakopmunder Männergesangsverein ihr u.a. den “Damaraturm” und das Swakopmunder Lied vor, das unsere Jubilarin aus voller Brust mitsang. Die Altstadt Düsseldorfs ist übrigens bis heute bekannt für ihre vielen gemütlichen Bars. Nicht umsonst wird die Altstadt im bekannten „Altbierlied“ als die „längste Theke der Welt“ besungen Ernst und Käthe Grosche wanderten 1949 nach Südwestafrika aus, wo sie zuerst als Farmverwalter tätig waren. “Und das, obwohl mein Vater nicht einmal den Unterschied zwischen einer Kuh und einem Ochsen kannte,” wirft Sohnemann Arvid ein. Anschließend betrieben sie das Hotel Sukses sowie die angeschlossene Tankstelle in der kleinen Ortschaft Sukses zwischen Okahandja und Otjiwarongo. Damals wurden das Benzin noch manuell aus den Zapfsäulen gepumpt. 1953 eröffnete das Ehepaar den Otavi General Store und tätigte große Geschäfte mit den Farmern. In Otavi herrschte damals reger Betrieb, denn die bestehende Schmalspur der Eisenbahn

Dulux National Pairs

The first round of the DULUX NATIONAL PAIRS was played last weekend and another good field of 44 players turned out to "let's colour" the course. The format was a better ball and it was Jonas Niilenge and Ben Louw who won first prize on 52 points and hopefully also won a new handicap for their troubles. Second place went to Barend and Kevin on 50 points. Third place went to on 47 point and winning the count out went to Emile and Emile Junior. There were all sorts of fun and games on the course, 2 clubs were won by Emile Junior, Ben Louw and Jason Barnard whiles the clubs favourite son, Wayne hart won the jackpot. Nearest to the pins were won by Herman Smidt and Ben Louw, a good day by Ben by all accounts. But the 'score' of the day was when Kannetjies le Richie scored an ace on number 2, which needless to say gave him the honour to 'ring the bell' to which he obliged in style. It was great to have Kannetjies and his colleague Hendry Hufner joins us for the day and hand out the prizes. Many thanks to them and we look forward having them back for the next round. The next and last round of the DULUX NATIONAL PAIRS will take place at our club on 9 June, so remember if you want to make the cut for the finals at Omeya in October make sure you are in. you will however need to play with the partner you played with last weekend. on the one photo is Shane holding the flag as Kannetjies retrieved his ball after his ace, yes it is Kannetjies and not Donald Trump haha. Together with the DULUX Pairs we played the WINDHOEK LAGER PAIRS [round one of three] which was won by Jonas and Ben. This weekend will be a club competition which will be a medal with a hidden partner. An interesting formats no doubt. There are some players travelling to Windhoek for the KIT GROUP pairs. Go well and play well to all those travelling. The draw was again not won last week so it is up to 1 200 on Friday night. Jan Arnold was not at the club last week. The 24th February is our fund raiser and we can confirm that it will be a 3 ball alliance with two scores to count on all holes. Entry fee will be 1050 [350 per player] which is just double of normal Saturday competition fees, and as this is for the club it was felt that this was not too much extra. Guys who have paid the annual green fee will only pay 200 for the day. We will also be selling mulligan's, a max of 5 per team at 100 each, these are optional with the first prize is going to be in the region of 5 000 buck, you might consider a mulligan or two. Those that do not use a mulligan are required to enter their score as normal. More info on prizes etc and further news will be sent out on a regular basis. We also ask all members who are able to sponsor a prize or two to please contact me, all contributions will be appreciated. There will be a lunch included in the price of entry. We will also have an item or two for auction so please bring your wallet. Remember that this is for the club funds which we all benefit from so please support this initiative; we depend on your support just as much as you, the member, depends on a course in good shape. 2018 Bank Windhoek Fistball League kicks-off this weekend Media release Bank Windhoek will once again be the official sponsor of the Fistball League. The Bank Windhoek Fistball League season's opening tournament will take place on Saturday, 10 February 2018, at the Swakopmund Fussball Club (SFC) in Swakopmund.

"After more than a three month summer break, the players are ready to get the ball rolling and improve their skills. The tour-

nament will be played in one category that may be divided into two groups or on a round-robin basis. This will also apply to the league commen-
