Container terminal officially opened today...............
History is in the making. President Hage Geingob arrived in Walvis Bay this morning with an historic task he has to perform. The President will later today officially open Namport’s container terminal on reclaimed land, in the port of Walvis Bay. The container terminal’s construction is finally over, following a construction schedule of just over 5 years.
Electricity tariffs unchanged for the next year Regional electricity supply company, Erongo RED announced on Wednesday it will keep its electricity rate unchanged for a period of the next twelve months until 30 June 2020. That is despite Nampower’s 2,5 % increase on bulk electricity rates (the rate at which Erongo RED purchases its electricity from Nampower for retail sale to electricity consumers). At a media briefing on Wednesday at Erongo RED’s headquarters in Walvis Bay, the company stated consumers might see a 2 cents increase which is statutory levies (Electricity Control Board levy and National Energy Fund levy) over which the company has no control. In a second highly appreciated gesture, Erongo RED also announced a 10 % reduction in its Network Service Fee charged to farmers. This reduction will result in farmers in the Region experiencing a reduction in their Erongo RED invoice amounts of between 1 % and 6 % Note: full list of tariffs of Erongo RED can be viewed on pages 12 and 13 of today’s edition.

Biggest consignment of ammonium nitrate in history arrives in port Floris Steenkamp A cargo ship carrying 4 000 tons of high density ammonium nitrate (HDAN) destined for the Copper Belt in Zambia, is steaming for Walvis Bay and is expected alongside on Sunday. HDAN is an agricultural fertilizer, but if mixed with a certain chemical agent becomes a very potent and widely used mining explosive. Although the import of ammonium nitrate through the port of Walvis Bay is not uncommon, this consignment represents the singlebiggest import of this kind to date, explained the Business Development Manager of Crossroads Distribution, Ockert Maritz this week. Crossroads Distribution facilitates the entire process of the loading of the ammonium nitrate at the supplier overseas, transportation at sea, discharge in port, storage and transport to the end-consumer in what the company describes
as its “cradle to grave” approach. According to Maritz, a second consignment of 3 000 tons are planned for later this year. “We take huge pride in handling this kind of cargo as well as the volumes”, explained Maritz. This particular consignment of ammonium nitrate will ensure a cash injection of N$14 million into the local economy in the form of procurement of local service providers. Maritz further explained the ports of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Durban in South Africa
resulted in the Zambian-based Africa Warehousing & Logistics seeking alternatives in the port of Walvis Bay. Africa Warehousing & Logistics handles the ammonium nitrate imports in Zambia on behalf of a Explosives Company in Zambia. AWL approached Crossroads Distribution in Walvis Bay and with more than 84 years of experience in the business (Crossroads started decades ago as Jowell's Transport) the deal was sealed. The ammonium nitrate was loaded in the port of St Petersburg in Russia. With the vessel alongside on Sunday, discharge operations are to start on Monday. From storage a total of 40 trucks will transport the ammonium nitrate to Kitwe. Maritz further added the import and transport to Zambia of the 4 000 tons of ammonium nitrate is far more important that at first glance. Several big operators in Zambia are keenly watching the process, as they too are looking at alternative ports of entry than Tanzania and South Africa. “It is important that everyone who are involved do their utmost best to facilitate a smooth transfer of the ammonia nitrate from Russian to Zambia. If we as Namibians do it right and do it right the first time it would mean more import business for Walvis Bay and more business for the Trans Caprivi Corridor”, explained Maritz. Adding, three manganese mines are planned for eastern Zambia which pose massive potential for the import of equipment and commodities via Walvis Bay relating to the mining construction- and the ultimate mining phases. Apart from business, this also raises the bar for the Walvis Bay Corridor Group's drive to position the port of Walvis Bay as the preferred import- and export hub between world markets and landlocked SADC countries. Note: Crossroads Distribution is 70 % owned by Crossroads Distribution South Africa and Nammic Holdings (Namibia) owns a 30 % stake. Passport woes at Home Affairs lead to increased frustrations Eileen van der Schyff
Namibia's passport woes continue. Despite public outrage and numerous complaints the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration seemingly cannot get control of the situation. Complaints stream in from angry coastal residents who say they are being double hit by the Ministry's incompetence, as firstly there are no passport books and secondly emergency travel documents can also not be issued when traveling to South Africa, as this neighbouring country don't accept Namibian emergency travel
documents. “This is ridiculous! I want to get my son a passport as he has to attend a sport event in South Africa. However, I am unable to do so because of unavailability of passport books and now there is a problem with emergency travel documents”, one outraged resident explained. A call to Home Affairs revealed the following: Firstly, there is no green passport books available yet and no one seems to know when these passport books will be available again. Secondly, emergency travel documents will only be issued if the applicant has to travel to South Africa for medical reasons. Then only after the application is approved by a committee in Home Affairs. For no other reasons would emergency travel documents be issued. Thirdly, the Ministry does issue brown passport books, but these passports are only accepted in the SADC which means it can only be used to travel to Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia and Zimbabwe. A ministerial official told Namib Times the Minister of Home affairs and Immigration, Frans Kapofi is busy arranging for better agreements regarding emergency travel documents to South Africa.”

Three rapes in Erongo Articles on this page by: Isaac Chikosi and Eileen van der Schyff The extent of gender-based violence in the Erongo region is uphauling. The reality of this problem is highlighted once more by the fact that three women fell victim to rapists in the Region the past week. These are only the known cases. A case of rape was opened against a stepfather who repeatedly raped his mentally handicapped step daughter. The 62-year-old man raped his mentally impaired stepdaughter on numerous occasions this year. Reginald Wesley Manas, the accused, allegedly raped the defenseless 24year-old woman on several occasions while in Windhoek and Rehoboth. Manas was arrested and he appeared in the Walvis Bay magistrate's court on 25 July. He was released on N$2 000 bail. At Otjimbingwe, Karibib district, a man was charged with one count of rape and a second charge of attempted rape. The 50-year-old Leonard Gertze is accused of having allegedly coerced a 13-year-old learner to have sexual intercourse with him in 2018. According to police reports, Gertze also allegedly attempted to undress the same victim in May this year. The suspect was arrested and appeared before a Karibib magistrate yesterday. In another incident, a 36-year-old woman fell victim to rape when she was attacked on her way home from work in Usakos on Saturday morning. Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed the incident. Although the suspect is known, he is still on the run.
Theft out of motor vehicle
Unknown suspects broke into a car in Kabeljou street, Kuisebmond on Monday 29 July at around midnight. According to the spokesperson of the police in the Erongo region, Erastus Iikuyu, the suspects smashed the rear window of the parked car and stole two Cdj 350's and one Djm 7001 players. Nothing was recovered yet and no arrests were made yet. Anyone with information about the location of the stolen items, or who can positively identify the suspects are requested to contact Deputy Sargent Foster at 081 369 4321 or Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu at 081 246 4757. Pep Stores burglary
Pep Stores in the Metropolitan Plaza in Walvis Bay's central business district was burgled during the dark hours of Monday morning. The suspects stole one hundred and thirty-six (136) cell phones. They also stole sweets, toiletries, bedding and clothes with a combined value of N$127 909-24. Any person with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects must get in contact with Deputy Commissioner Erastus Ikuyu at 081 246 4757.

Woman hangs herself A 38-year-old woman hung herself inside her bathroom on Wednesday morning 31 July. According to the spokesperson of the police in the Erongo Region, Erastus Iikuyu, Elrica Isolda Smit was found by her domestic worker in the shower of her home. She was seen alive the last time by the domestic worker an hour before. No suicide note was found, but the Police don't suspect any foul play.
Security guard hangs himself at watch post A 24-year-old security guard ended his own life shortly after he reported on duty at Elgin Brown and Hammer (EBH) on Wednesday 31 July. Amos Cornelius was discovered by his colleague. He hanged himself with an electric cable from the iron rail of the stairs inside the building. Cornelius left a suicide note. No foul play is suspected.
22-year old shoots himself A 22-year-old man shot himself with his father's revolver in his room at his home in Hermes in Walvis Bay on Sunday. The man died later in hospital. Kyle Adams took the key of the safe from his father's car and took out a revolver belonging to his father to end his life. Adams sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the Welwitchia Private hospital with St Gabriel and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. He was in a very critical condition. The next day, Monday at around 01:30 Adams passed away. No suicide note was left and no foul play is suspected. The late Kyle Adams

Learners from different schools LSK Consulting CC under the leadership of Cliff Shikuambi hosted an event where various speakers motivated and empowered over 500 learners from schools in Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, Arandis and Swakopmund at the Narraville Community Hall in Walvis Bay. LSK Consulting's owner Cliff Shikuambi said that the objective of this dialogue platform is to connect the worlds of learning and work as a vital space to better prepare young people for future work and life. And with the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is key for corporate Namibia to play a leading role in ensuring that we bridge the knowledge and expertise gap in young people as early as possible. In so doing, boosting the confidence of the young Namibian child as well as positively informing their decision-making with regards to their career choices backed by industry stakeholder's participation. “I am particularly of the view that students and learners need to experience the world of work, particularly work of the future, long before the end of their school going careers”, Shikuambi added. The dialogue platform was aimed to bring employers and industry-based partners together under one roof with senior learners for a one-day career exhibition complemented by an interactive “In Conversation” dialogue. The “In Conversation” platform seeks to develop strong narratives around pertinent and topical issues and challenges affecting Namibians daily. The speakers shared the Namibian dream and unpacking their stories from ordinary to extraordinary during the inspiration session with over 500 Grades 10, 11 and 12 learners from 13 Schools at the coast. My Trash My Treasure Sharlien Tjambari
The “My Trash My Treasure” competition, aimed at raising awareness about the value of recyclable and upcyclable waste is struggling to exercise its mandate due to a lack of donor assistance. The competition started in May and ended on Wednesday with insufficient funds to offer prizes to the winners. Paulina Engelbrecht, an Environmental Officer at the Swakopmund Municipality urged businesses and individuals to get onboard, as My Trash My Treasure is an important project in the education of Namibians, particularly children, on the value of recycling and up-cycling. Where recycling involves the re-use of certain materials like carton or plastics, up-cycling involves taking old items like chairs, renovate and re-use it or taking an old washing machine barrel, transform it into a plant pot etc. “We will highly appreciate it if companies and interested stakeholders come on board and donate prizes. We need that to motivate our school learners to particpate in the competition again the next time”, said Engelbrecht. Engelbrecht made this call on Wednesday morning appealing to interested parties to assist. The winning prizes for the competition have in the past come from donors. Through this competition, learners are encouraged to use their creative skills to create any useful item from recyclable material. Dit is kontant wat dadelik 'n inspuiting is in die ekonomie en ‘n groot verskil kan maak aan individue wat die pryse wen. Die klub het uitgawes om die kompetisie suksesvol te bedryf. Die wins word jaarliks aangewend om die klub te bestuur en fasiliteite te onderhou. Die miljoen dollar trekking is een van die grootste bronne van inkomste vir die klub, en sonder die betrokkenheid van almal wat kaartjies koop en verkoop, sal die klub nie so suksesvol kan bestaan as wat hy huidiglik doen nie. Die afgelope naweek het die 2de 'early bird' trekking plaasgevind en vir die eerste keer in die geskiedenis het 3 mense van die kus, die eerste 3 pryse van een trekking gewen. Mnr Philip Deetlefs het met kaartjie nommer 1852 een van die twee Kia Picantos gewen. Ottokar Krahenbuhl het met kaartjie 1211 die tweede prys van N$50 000 kontant gewen en C van Niekerk het die derde prys van N$30 000 kontant gewen met kaartjie nommer 1822. Die wen kaartjie is deur Hare Kruger van Otjiwarongo verkoop en die tweede en derde prys kaartjies deur Percy van Zyl van Walvisbaai. Kaartjies is vinnig besig om uit te verkoop met slegs 766 kaartjies wat nog beskikbaar is ten tyde van die plasing van hierdie berig. Swakopmund (AvW) - Am 25. Juli fand die öffentliche Vorstellung des Gesprächskreises deutschsprachiger Namibier im Trendhaus statt. Das Programm beinhaltete einen kurzen Rückblick auf die bisherige Rolle der Deutschsprachigen im Lande durch HansVolker Gretschel, eine Erläuterung der Moti-

sprachigen Staatsbürger Namibias, die eine Mitverantwortung zur Gestaltung des Landes auf gesellschaftlicher, wirtschaftlicher und politischer Ebene haben. Wie kommunizieren wir am besten mit unseren Mitbürgern und leisten einen Beitrag zu einer verbindlichen nationalen Kultur, ohne uns dabei

Anschlieβend folgte ein reger Gedankenaustausch der 58 Teilnehmer unter Moderation von Anton von Wietersheim mit verschiedenen Anregungen und Vorschlägen in Bezug auf das zukünftige Vorgehen und die wirksame Umsetzung der Ziele des Gesprächskreises. Historischer Rückblick (Gretschel): Den Gründern der neuen Initiative wurde u.a. der Vorwurf der Vermessenheit entgegengehalten - als derart kleine Minderheit, Einfluβ auf politische, soziale und wirtschaftliche Entwicklungen Namibias ausüben zu wollen. Die Geschichte des Landes belegt, dass es - trotz vieler Widerstände - der deutschsprachigen Minderheit in zähem Ringen immer wieder gelang, ihre Kulturund Sprachrechte durchzusetzen. Auf
kratischen Rechtsstaates Namibia dar, und auch in den darauffolgenden Jahren, spielten sie eine z.T. bedeutende Rolle als Minister oder Vizeminister, Generalstaatsanwalt, Staatssekretäre, Bürgermeister oder auch Oppositionspolitiker. Es ist verständlich, dass sich Personen nach vielen Jahren aktiver Politik zurückziehen. Beunruhigend aber ist die Tatsache, dass aus der jüngeren Generation kein Nachwuchs die Verantwortung übernommen hat. Es stellt sich die Frage: Sind die Deutschsprachigen mit ihrer Situation durch die Verfassung zufrieden und unbesorgt, oder meinen sie, als kleine Minderheit - trotz bedeutender historischer Vorbilder - nichts bewegen zu können? Motivation für das Aufleben des Gesprächskreises (Tötemeyer) Ein kleiner Kreis deutschsprachiger Namibier hat sich zunehmend Gedanken gemacht über die Stellung, die Rolle und die Aufgabe der deutsch-
von unserer eigenen Kultur zu trennen oder zu distanzieren? Zwei Konzepte wurden als Schwerpunkte identifiziert: Erstens Vertrauen: Das Land wird zunehmend geprägt von einem schwindenden Vertrauen zueinander. Es geht durch eine negative wirtschaftliche Phase, teils wegen der Dürre, aber auch durch andere Faktoren be-ingt, die eine immer gröβer werdende Kluft zwischen arm und reich herbeiführen. Die deutschsprachigen Namibier, die den Ruf der stärksten (reichsten) wirtschaftlichen Gruppe im Lande genieβen, müssen Stellung beziehen und an Lösungen mitwirken, um Mitgestalter einer zukunftsträchtigen Entwicklung zu sein. Die gegenwärtige Krisensituation gefährdet die Stabilität des Landes und fordert politisches und intellektuelles Engagement, um der im Grundgesetz verankerten Demokratie die notwendige Stabilität zu verleihen...Wir dürfen es als Deutschsprachige nicht zulas-
rechte ein... Zielsetzungen (Joachim von Wietersheim) Der Gesprächskreis will durch das Mittel der Kommunikation gegenseitiges Verständnis, Akzeptanz und Vertrauen fördern. Hervorhebung der Gemeinsamkeiten unterschiedlicher Interessengruppen soll zur Konfliktlösung beitragen. Es wird eine landesweite Verbreitung angestrebt, um gröβere Wirksamkeit und Anerkennung zu erzielen. Im Rahmen seiner Relevanz wird der Gesprächskreis die Interessen seiner Teilnehmer öffentlich vertreten. Der Gesprächskreis bemüht sich darum, dass deutschsprachige Namibier sich zunehmend uneingeschränkt und ohne Vorbehalte zu Namibia und ihren Mitbürgern bekennen und sich als Afrikaner sozial und kulturell öffnen und integrieren.... Vom 19.-21. Juli trafen sich etwa 85 Teilnehmende für die vom Goethe-Institut Namibia, der Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutscher Schulvereine und der University of Namibia ausgerichtete Dieter-Esslinger-FortbildungsTagung für deutschsprechende Lehrer in Otjiwarongo. Die Tagung bot Workshops für die teilnehmenden Lehrer zur konkreten Verbesserung ihres Unterrichts in namibischen Klassenzimmern, und die Gruppe „Wortspiel“ aus Deutschland präsentierte ihr Kreativkonzept für den Deutschunterricht an Schulen. Frau Prof. Dr. Zappen-Thomson, Do-
zentin an der University of Namibia, hielt einen Vortrag zum Thema „Der prekäre Status der Germanistik und des Faches Deutsch an Bildungsinstitutionen im südlichen Afrika“. Frau Ellen Gölz, Chargée d'Affaires der Deutschen Botschaft Windhuk, wies in ihrem Grußwort auf die Bemühungen hin, die von Seiten der Bundesregierung und anderen deutschen Organisationen unternommen werden, um die Attraktivität des Lehrerberufs und die Lehrerqualifizierung in Namibia zu verbessern. Liebe Küstenleser! Es ist schon interessant zu beobachten, dass unsere Küstenbewohner “ihre” Zeitung treu lesen. Obwohl die Namib Times im schier unendlichen Blätterwald, den die unermüdlich ratternden Druckmaschinen dieser Erde ausspucken, ein kleines Käseblatt ist, wird sie gelesen oder zumindest gescannt. Das ist erstaunlich, sind doch die Tage der immer dünner und dünnseitiger werdenden Zeitungen, die man so lockerluftig in der Hand hält, gezählt, seitdem es die elektronischen Medien gibt. Obwohl ich ein großer Freund des Papiers zwischen den Fingern bin und es der digitalen Welt ohne diese Tuchfühlung vorziehe, erwische auch ich mich immer häufiger dabei, dass ich -wenigstens die Zeitung- scanne. Warum? Weil die Medien noch immer nicht gelernt haben, dass ausschließlich negative Schlagzeilen wie “Welle der Gewalt”, “China droht”, “Baby vergewaltigt” oder “ To t e b e i B u s u n glück” mit anschließender Kurzinfo einfach keine Wirkung mehr erzielen. Man erschaudert vielleicht für einen Moment, und schon sind die Fünkchen versprüht. Aber neulich habe ich gemerkt, dass meine Emotionen noch nicht völlig vereist sind. Da lächelte mich der Bundesratspräsident Daniel Günther (CDU) in unserer Tageszeitung so glücklich an, nachdem er hier in Namibia das “Massaker”, das deutsche Kolonialtruppen in den ersten Jahren des 20. Jahrhun-
derts an den südwestafrikanischen Völkern der Herero und der Nama verübt hatten, als „Völkermord“ bezeichnete und die „historische Schuld“ der Deutschen für diese Taten anerkannte. Man kann ja viel aus dem Gesicht eines Menschen lesen, und als ich dieses relativ junge, glatte, gutgläubige Antlitz mit den blauen Augen so vor mir sah, dachte ich: ‘Junge, du hast ganz bestimmt noch nie einen Krieg erlebt oder auch nur an-

satzweise mit deinem ganzen Körper - nicht nur Geist - konkret für oder gegen etwas gekämpft - von Mann zu Mann - DENN in jedem Krieg oder politischen Konflikt, der oftmals mit einem Machtwechsel verbunden ist, gibt es mindestens zwei Parteien, die sich als gegenseitige Feinde betrachten, die es gilt zu vernichten. Und da gibt es Tote auf beiden Seiten. Ich könnte nun Hunderte Auseinandersetzungen oder Konflikte auf politischer Ebene nennen, beschränke mich aber auf den Zweiten Freiheitskampf der Afrikaaner, die in Deutschland oft abfällig als “Buren” bezeichnet werden. Der Second Anglo Boer War von 1899 bis 1902 war ein Konflikt zwischen Großbritannien, das Südafrika immer mehr seinem territorial geschlossenem Kolonialreich in Afrika einzuverleiben versuchte, und den Afrikaanern,
deren Freiheit auf jeder Ebene zunehmend eingeschränkt wurde. Allein in diesem Krieg/ Konflikt /Machtwechsel von vier Jahren richtete die britische Armee riesige Lager ein, in denen bis zu 160 000 Menschen/Gegner eingesperrt wurden. Ich

habe noch nicht einmal gehört, dass irgendein Afrikaaner aufgestanden ist, um irgendwelche Entschädigungsgelder für dieses immense Leid einzufordern. Wo kämen wir hin, wenn jede Generation jeder Kriegspartei, die vor 50, 100, 1000 Jahren in einem Konflikt gelitten hat, um Entschädigungsgelder bettelte!? Da stimme ich absolut mit unserem Präsidenten Hage Geingob überein, der die Selbstbereicherung der Entschädigungsgelder durchschaut und darauf gepocht hat, dass sie wenn überhaupt - in Entwicklungsprojekte fließen sollten - statt als Bargeld an Nachfahren einzelner Opfer ausgezahlt zu werden. Ob gewisse Fraktionen in Deutschland auch endlich realistisch werden? Das fragt sich Ihre Susann Kinghorn

Namib Diesel Walvis Bay Private High School last Saturday lost their quarter final clash 27-29 against Samsung Windhoek High School in the Momentum under 19 Super League at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek. The scorers for WBPHS I, Tries, Neil Brand, Dian Neethling and Victor van der Watt with Scott Winborn successful with 3 conversions and 2 penalties. The WBPHS II team beat Mariental Schools I 64-31 in the Under 19 C quarter final to advance to the semi-finals. The scorers for WBPHS II; Tries, Lucio Isaacs (2), Krynauw Bouwer (2), Alexander Jansen, AJ Visser, Bennicio Sissing, Keanu Gonteb, Ashley Mclobo, Drian Derks. Conversions by Brandon Seister (4) and Rashaan Saban (3). The Under 15 team from Pro-Ed Academy beat KPS 10-35 to advance to the Under 15 semi-finals. Bradley Delron Murere, a young paralympics athlete and learner at the Namib High School in Swakopmund, was selected to compete in the Paris-World Para Athletics Grant Prix in France. The competition is at the end of August. Due to financial difficulties however, Murere might not be able to compete. He is in desperate need of N$36 000 to make his dream come true of competing in France. The money he needs will be for travel costs, competition entry fees, a visa, sport insurance and transport to and from the competition venue. Murere, who lost his arm after a motor vehicle accident at the age of 12, is a force to be reckoned with in Paralympics Sport. He is already making headlines against his senior competitors. He participates in the class of T46 (single below or above the elbow amputation) in the 100m and 200m events. In 2018 he won a bronze medal in the 100m and a silver in the 200m IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin. In the same year he scooped up two gold medals in the 100m and 200m at the SASAPD Nedbank Championships in South Africa. This year Bradley won gold medals in the 100m and 200m at the Para National Championship at Stellenbosch in South Africa. The Handisport Open Paris-World Para Athletics Grant Prix in Paris will give Bradley an opportunity to qualify for the World Championship that will be hosted in Dubai in November. Also, an opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games. Murere's aunt Petronella (Murere) /Uiras is very excited about the prospects of her nephew's participation in Paris. Financial difficulty can put an end to this dream, she explained. /Uiras urged the coastal communities to come to her nephew's aid. “We need the community and businesses to help Bradley. As a family we are unable to raise all the funds that is needed. He is looking forward to the games and is well-prepared to participate, but we just do not know how to get him there”, she explained. “We already requested assistance from the Namibia National Paralympics Committee, but

In the first semi-final, SKW 2 overpowered their club mates SKW 1 in a thrilling encounter which ended 2:1. CFC 1
the match for third place, CFC 2 beat SKW 1 3:0. In the final placement matches, SFC 1 lost in the fifth place game against CFC 2, while DTS beat SFC 2 for the seventh place. SKW 2 and CFC 1 faced each other in the final match. Despite the home turf advantage, SKW 2 could not match CFC 1's play. Due to this dominating position, SKW 2 had to give in to the pressure. Walvis Bay Golf Club hosted DIAL-A-TYRE Golf Day Contributed Walvis Bay Golf Club had a very new and first-time sponsor, DIAL-A-TYRE last week. There were a few good scores and Tienie de Wet's good form continued as he walked away with the first prize on 38 points. Second place, also on 38 points, and losing the count out was Jaco Greef. Third place went to Boel Grobbelaar on 37 points winning the count out from Kurt Brits. Fifth and sixth places were also determined by count out with Eddie van Wyk and Amandio Sardinha respectively. The nearest to the pins were won by Jaco Greef and Amandio Sardinha. There were a few two clubs and the jackpot were not won on the day. There were also three lucky draws, so indeed a good sponsorship from DIAL-ATYRE. Thanks to Kobus Karstens and Jurie van der Merwe for being part of the day. We are happy to announce that we will be hosting a major fund raiser on the 24 August. We will have at least three could even be four celebrities on the day with the main man being Dale Hayes. Entry will be 3000 per three balls and the format will a better ball with 2 scores to count on the par 5's. There will be a coffee station upon arrival and a breakfast and lunch packs during the day. There will also be a 'goodie bag' on arrival. Big prizes for the winners and most of the teams will get a prize and we are busy trying to get big prizes for closest to the pins on all four of the short holes. The entry will be limited to 24 teams and invitations will be sent out soonest. There will also be a dinner/function in the evening which will include a sit down dinner with entertainment being provided by Dale Hayes. Really good events to look forward to, so please make sure of getting your team/s in early. On a sad note, we have learnt that Wouter's father passed away last week and Tienie's brother has passed away this
week. Our thoughts are with Wouter, Tienie and Wilma. The AGM's date has been changed to 21 August. All members are requested to think to make yourself available to stand on the committee. We need some new blood with fresh ideas, so please really think about it. 2,190kg Galjoen the Derby's winning fish Rudi Bowe
A galjoen pulling the scale at 2,190kg, caught by Andries Boshoff, was the winning fish at the recent Galjoen Derby, held at Henties Bay. Attractive prizes were up for grabs and all proceeds made from this angling competition was donated to Stepping Stone School, specialising in the education of mainly autistic children and children with neurological and/ or communicational difficulties.

Although a total of 237 anglers participated, only a very few fish were weighed in. Andries Bosshoff caught his winning fish at Sarah Se Gat. In the second place was Clinton Barnard with his 2,010kg galjoen and Johan Steyn third (1,950kg). Stefan Jacksch came in fourth position with his galjoen of 1,885kg and Roberto Celotto fifth (1,820kg). The proceeds of the day totalled a healthy N$65 900. The organisers of the Derby thanked both the sponsors, anglers and supported without whom this would not have been the success it turned out. See you at next year's Derby, they added.

The His House Care Centre situated at 14 Main Road Meersig Walvis Bay is a frail nonprofit organization care centre that was established in 2005 and is registered with the Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services as a convalescent home. The Care Centre create a homely and loving environment where the elderly and vulnerable are well cared for and treated with the respect and dignity, due to them as individuals. With quite a long waiting list, His House currently has 22 residents. One of these residents, is a young disabled boy of 10 years who was legally removed from his parents and could not be placed into foster care. The results for the 2019 Tri Sport and Fun event: The overall trophy winners are Guan Packaging as they entered teams for the Golf, Cycling and Running events. The best-dressed water point team award went to Gendev with thebest spirit water team award went to Die Voortrekkers whilst the best newcomers at a water point award went to The J-Sqaud. The event started with a corporate Golf Day on Friday 25 July at the Walvis Bay Golf Course with eight teams participated. The Bank Windhoek Team emerge as the winners with Namib Diesel Team second and Golf Buddies in the third place. Wouter van Wyk from team Namib Diesel won the CTP 7, CTP 18 winner was Simon Celliers from team BDO and the LD 1 winner was Eugene Venter from team Guans Packaging team. The 5km, 10km and 21km running events was held on Saturday 26 July with the start and finish at Lagoon Chalets in Walvis Bay. Bowls Champion of Champions Rudi Bowe
The annual Bowls Champion of Champions Tournament, sponsored by Aramex Courier Services, takes place at Rossmund Bowling Club this weekend. The men's and women's singles champions, Poena Olivier and Sharon Roodt from Namib Park Bowls Club in Walvis Bay, and Graham Snyman and Diana Viljoen (Rossmund Bowling Club) will play against the singles champions of other bowls clubs in the country. The Tournament will be in a round robin format, to determine who will be Champion of all the Champions. Namibian Fistball team off to Switzerland Contributed
The Namibian Fistball National team left for Switzerland on Wednesday to represent Namibia at the upcoming Fistball World Championships that starts on 10 August. In preparation for the World Cup, the team will first participate in the Obersee Masters tournament on Saturday, 3 and Sunday, 4 August in Jona, Switzerland. “Around 80 teams from all over the world will participate at this tournament which takes the form of a training camp. The team will travel to Winterthur where the World Cup kicks off on 10 August. The Namibians will face Denmark, Netherlands, Japan and Australia in the preliminary round. The matches can be followed via live stream on www.ifa-fistball.tv. “We wish the national team all the best,” said Bank Windhoek's Public Relations Manager, André Le Roux.
