Be sure to arm yourself with some knowledge before heading to the jeweller. Shop around – Take your time to research and compare options before settling on a purchase.

Lighting – Before agreeing to purchase a diamond ring, be sure to examine it under good light, including sunlight if possible.
Clarity – Clarity refers to flaws and blemishes, which are known as inclusions. A flawless diamond will be much more brilliant than a flawed one. It will also be more expensive.
Colour – Diamonds range in colour from white to yellow, with white being the most expensive. The more pure, the more value. A colourless stone is rated from a D (colourless) to a Z (a light yellow).
Carat – Diamonds are weighed in carat. This is considered to be one of the most important elements of selecting a diamond. However, it does also come down to a combination of clarity and colour. Just because a stone is large, does not mean it’s flawless.

Create a thorough to-do list for the months ahead and start a budget spreadsheet to keep track of your expenses. Generally, 50 per cent of your total budget should be allocated to the reception with 10 per cent on clothing and accessories; eight per cent on flowers and 10 per cent on photos and video. Divide the remaining budget between stationery, music, celebrant and other miscellaneous items.
KNOW THE NUMBERS PIECE OF CAKE Save money by cutting and serving your wedding cake in lieu of dessert at the reception.
Before booking a venue, estimate the number of guests so you know exactly how large a space you will require. This will also allow you to calculate how much the reception will set you back.
