GO ON A SLIME-TASTIC ADVENTURE Up the slime factor these September school holidays as part of Sea Life Sunshine Coast’s all-new Slimed interactive experience. Guests can go on a slime-tastic underwater journey as they learn weird and wonderful facts about the slimy creatures of the sea including anemones, sea cucumbers, jellyfish and moray eels. For the daring, scattered throughout the attraction are Black Box Challenges, where guests can stick their hands in a mystery black box and guess which slimy creature the texture resembles. There will be daily slime-making workshops at 12pm and 2.30pm where guests can learn how to create their own slime with tips and tricks from slime-making expert Squishii Cat.

A very special event is coming to the Queensland Air Museum on September 22 – The Australian Military Aircraft Display. The display features the Lockheed Neptune, Lockheed Ventura and the De Havilland Caribou, and there are plenty of stories to uncover about the important roles these aircraft played in Australia’s defence and coastal surveillance. Both the Neptune and Ventura were primarily designed as surveillance aircraft and were known as the ‘sub-hunters’ for their capacity to detect enemy submarines. Both aircraft have interesting stories on their way to becoming QAM displays. The Neptune was recovered from Mareeba, was disassembled by 12 QAM volunteers in February 2016, transported to Caloundra on six trucks, and re-assembled over a period of two years.

The Ventura, a WW2 aircraft, was recovered in 1991 as a wrecked fuselage and had been used to store pig and chicken food on a farm. In very poor condition and missing wings, tail, engines and all internal components, the restoration was a great challenge and has been underway for almost three decades. The DHC-4 Caribou is fortunate to end up at QAM, having been involved in three near-catastrophic crashes while serving in Vietnam. Each aircraft has been lovingly restored by the QAM Restoration and Conservation teams and visitors will have the opportunity to climb inside these historically significant aircraft and hear the stories of their service.
