e are halfway through 2026, and I want to share how we are doing on some of the goals I set at the beginning of this year. The safety of our community remains my highest priority. Every day, our officers work to protect the residents and visitors of the Las Vegas Valley, and that includes addressing dangerous driving behaviors that put innocent lives at risk. One of my priorities has been to reduce the number of fatal crashes on our roadways. At the beginning of July, we recorded a 34% reduction in the number of fatal crashes compared to this time last year. That not only represents 30 lives saved, but it also means our streets are safer thanks to the actions of our men and women focusing on traffic enforcement. The number one cause of fatal crashes so far in 2026 is pedestrian error. Followed closely by failure to yield right of way and excessive speeding. LVMPD has taken a whole agency approach to traffic safety. Every section in the department has committed to making this community safer. Detectives in plain vehicles are out on the roadways conducting vehicle stops and issuing citations. Each of the ten area commands assigned 2 officers to participate in our LIFE squad. Lives Improved Fatalities Eliminated (LIFE) squads are using technology to map previous years crash data to pinpoint areas to conduct enforcement. The LIFE Squads work 7 days a week and so far, this year, they have issued almost 43,000 citations, arrested 144 impaired Drivers and towed 2,200 vehicles. During the time when the LIFE squads work, from 2 p.m. to midnight, there has been a 24% reduction in fatal accidents. In December 2025, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Nevada State Police, Henderson Police, North Las Vegas Police, Boulder City Police, Clark County School District Police, and University Police all joined forces and established the Southern Nevada Traffic Task Force. Their mission is to tackle the increased speeds and dangerous driving on

valley freeways. These combined efforts have resulted in over 6,000 vehicle stops with 6,100 citations, 32 DUI arrests, and 74 vehicles towed. Consistent enforcement on our highways and surface streets has helped save lives. Impaired driving continues to be one of the leading contributors to serious injury and fatal crashes in Clark County. To combat the problem, we are conducting a DUI Blitz monthly. Officers work to get impaired drivers off the roadways before they can harm themselves or others. Over the 4th of July Weekend, LVMPD officers arrested 76 DUI drivers. Another focus of our officers is to tackle illegal street racing, street takeovers, drifting, and trick driving. These reckless actions endanger drivers, passengers, pedestrians, spectators, and everyone who shares our roadways. LVMPD has taken a hard line against those who try to take over our streets with drag

racing and drifting. In June, we destroyed two cars that had been seized for illegal stunt-driving in our jurisdiction. My message is simple: if you participate in these behaviors, you will face arrest, criminal charges, your car will be towed, and you could permanently lose your vehicle. Before the start of our fiscal year on July 1, the LVMPD Fiscal Affairs Committee approved the addition of 10 officers and one sergeant to join our Traffic Bureau. Thank you to those elected officials who understand the importance of making sure we have the proper resources to keep everyone safe. Traffic safety is a community problem, not just a law enforcement problem. And it takes all of us to help solve this problem. Since a young age, John Holland, Executive Chef and Owner of Rollin Smoke Barbeque, knew that cooking was in his bones. Growing up, John would ask his mother to prepare the Thanksgiving desserts, and even grilled for his friends and co-workers after long days in the Arkansas oil fields.

John had no idea that his once small mobile smoker/grill would grow to this extent, and continuously expand. Winning numerous BBQ competitions, receiving national recognition in the top 16 Hottest New Barbeque restaurants, recognition as Top 20 best Barbeque restaurants in the country, being featured on channels like Food Network, Discovery Channel, and many more are just a few of Rollin Smoke’s accomplishments over the years. The moment you walk through the door of any of their three Las Vegas locations, you are met with genuine Southern hospitality. The meats are smoked with Hickory wood and prepared with the “low and slow” process, and you can taste the love and effort put into the mouthwatering meats at Rollin Smoke. Located at 6435 S. Durango Drive, Suite 120, the popular Las Vegas shop has built a loyal following around its award-winning Smashed Donuts, an innovative creation that transforms an ordinary donut into something unforgettable. Fresh donuts are sliced in half, filled with ice cream, and pressed on a hot grill, creating a dessert that is warm and crispy on the outside while remaining cool and creamy in the center. The Signature Cookies N Cream Smashed Donut remains the customer favorite, but the menu extends far beyond its signature item. Yonutz is also known for its over-the-top Smashed Milkshakes, each featuring a donut blended into the shake and another on top, along with fresh-made traditional donuts, catering services, and a dessert food trailer that serves events throughout the valley. What truly separates Yonutz from competitors, however, is its culture. Every customer is greeted with an enthusiastic, “YOOO!” Firsttime visitors are welcomed with a celebratory cowbell, young guests are encouraged to place their own orders, and everyone is expected to take their first bite in the shop,

That customer-first philosophy was established by military veteran and former business and life coach, Rob Chandler, who opened the location in November 2023. After the pandemic, he sought a business opportunity that would allow him to teach his sons about entrepreneurship while investing in something fun and community oriented.

When his sons moved on to college and other opportunities, she stepped into larger responsibilities, handling everything from menu design and scheduling to payroll and operational procedures.

Similar to her mentor, Ms. Brooke Craig believes deeply in paying success forward by teaching anyone willing to learn and put in the work, just as others invested in her own growth. Her story is one of triumph over trauma, determination over defeat, sacrifice over a social life and inspiration over indecision.

I launched Bulletheadshouse on January 1, 2020. I started it as a family blog, something I could build with the energy of home: warm, welcoming, and rooted in the community. Then the pandemic hit, and everything changed. In May 2020, restaurants were struggling, and the city was living through uncertainty. Rather than staying on the sidelines, I partnered with a best friend of mine, James Johnson, and we began doing restaurant vlogs. Our mission became simple: get local businesses in front of the people who still wanted to eat out, discover new spots, and support the community.

as Vegas has been home to me for as long as I can remember. Since 1987, when I was just four years old, I’ve watched this city grow, change, reinvent itself, and keep moving forward. Over the decades, my life has evolved right alongside it: I became a father to three incredible kids, and I’m also a proud uncle with three siblings of my own. My life partner, Rocky, has been a steady presence as we’ve built something meaningful out West.

At first, we went to local places once a week. Before long, that turned into three times a week, and eventually—almost naturally— we found ourselves heading out every day. Through TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, Bulletheadshouse started gaining traction, and the numbers followed. Now we average millions of views each month, not because we chase trends, but because we’re focused on what matters: the food, the people, and the local culture.

But if there’s one thing that truly connects my family to the spirit of Las Vegas, it’s food and the stories behind it.

Our influence has grown beyond just likes and comments. We’ve helped **over 100 restaurants and businesses in Las Vegas** gain customers and followers. In other words, we turned content into opportunity.

I didn’t start food vlogging until later in life. At 36 years old, I decided to share what I loved: local flavors, real experiences, and the kind of recommendations you only get when someone genuinely cares. That’s when

along with a marketing focus built on the same core values as Bulletheadshouse. I support local first, because Las Vegas is only as strong as the people who keep it running. And that’s where my standards are clear: when a bigger brand comes along, we can collaborate, but it has to be a match. The company has to give back to the local Vegas community. Otherwise, it doesn’t fit what we stand for. That commitment is personal. I truly believe small businesses and everyday workers deserve recognition. Our support reaches janitors, trashmen, delivery drivers, UPS and FedEx drivers, airport staff, people in banking and corporate industry, secretaries, doctors, and lawyers, people whose work often holds everything together, even when nobody is watching. We do this for everybody, because Las Vegas is more than a destination. It’s a city of workers, families, and dreams. I also love events—especially Great American Foodie Fest. Every time the Foodie Fest throws an event, it feels like more than a gathering. It’s a chance for me to meet my followers face-to-face, take pictures, create memories, and celebrate the culture that brought us together in the first place. Las Vegas taught me resilience. Bulletheadshouse taught me connection. And every time we visit a new local spot, capture the moment, and share it with our community, I’m reminded that the best stories in this city aren’t just about food, they’re about people. MV

THE DEEP PLANE FACELIFT: Game-changer or Fad? What is a deep plane lower facelift, and is it better than a traditional SMAS lower facelift? Deep plane facelifts (DPFLs) have existed in the surgical textbooks for over 30 years. DPFLs are also known as a “composite lifts”, where both the skin and muscle are lifted as one unit versus those two layers being lifted individually as it is in a SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) Lift. DPFLs have just recently been revisited by the surgical community as a possible better solution to the traditional, SMAS lower face and neck lift. Historically, studies from decades ago that compared the two methods demonstrated that the results were nearly equivalent in most cases, with potentially slightly more improvement in the lower cheeks and nasolabial folds (a.k.a. Smile Lines) with a deep plane facelift approach. It is note worthy that many studies recognized that the patient’s anatomy and the experience of the surgeon was more important than the technique in regards to the overall result. It is critical to appreciate that DPFLs ONLY applies to the lower face/jawline and portions of the midface (cheeks and nasolabial folds), and NOT to the neck itself nor the tissue under the jawbone. The vast majority of plastic surgeons would agree on fact that there is no such procedure named a “deep plane necklift”. Why the resurgence in Deep Plane Facelifting? As is commonplace in today’s world of the internet and social media, DPFLs have gained some popularity driven largely by a small group of physicians in major metropolitan markets, such as NYC and Southern California. It is inappropriate to call it a “resurgence” or “revival”, as the technique was never popular nor commonly performed at any point in time since described over 30 years ago in the textbooks.

In my opinion, the primary reason for the current hype is mainly financial. Plastic surgeons will charge at least double, and often triple, the amount they charge for a time-tested SMAS lower facelift with necklift (>$100,000 in some markets!). This simple fact makes it unaffordable for most patients, therefore making it exclusively accessible to the ultra-wealthy. Whether the results of a DPFL are even better is debatable. What are the risks to the DPFL? Since DPFLs are more aggressive and invasive in nature, the risk of permanent motor nerve injury is unequivocally higher than in a safer SMAS Lift. This type of nerve injury can present as either temporary, or possibly permanent, malfunction of one’s facial muscles (similar to as one would appear after a cerebral stroke). Also notable is that since the deeper tissues of the face are disrupted, the recovery from a DPFL can be up to 50% more than a SMAS Lift.

Unfortunately many patients are now going to be potentially exposed to surgeons performing riskier surgeries all for the sake of chasing “what’s hot” on social media, while charging the patient 2-3x the amount of money. I believe that most of my colleagues probably would provide a better result by just improving and mastering their personal current technique. In my opinion, the higher complication rate, longer recovery, and less accessibility (from an economic standpoint) is a recipe for a procedure that will not gain popularity or become the new standard of facelifting. As a final intriguing point, it is quite ironic that the incision placement on the face and around the ears for a DPFL and SMAS Lift are exactly the same. Thus the patient, nor any surgeon for that matter, cannot tell which technique was exactly performed “under the hood” during surgery.

Finally, the majority (>95%) of DPFLs in the U.S. are performed under general anesthesia since they usually take 4-6 hours to complete. Obviously general anesthesia presents with it’s own set of risks (pulmonary and cardiovascular issues, allergic reactions, and post-operative nausea and vomiting etc.).

So will Deep Plane Facelifting stand the test of time? Classic SMAS Lifts have been the “gold standard” of lower facelifting for multiple decades. They are effective, safe, reasonably affordable, and have a undeniable track record. I’m quite confident that in just a few years DPFLs will join the long and evergrowing list of “once hot” facial procedures that enjoyed a few moments of fame and hype, but fail the test of time. For reference, a few relevant surgical fads in the past decade include buccal fat removal, thread lifting, surgical “lip lifting”, and under eye filler for hollows to name a few.

Why can Deep Plane Facelifting be seen as “Irresponsible”? Currently, my personal fear is that the majority of plastic surgeons in our country have never performed a DPFL, or at best have not performed one the last decade or more.

In the interim, patients will need to decide if they wish to pay 2 to 3 times more for procedure that may yield slightly better results, has a much higher risk profile with longer recovery, and that most patients cannot afford in the first place.

Additionally, since the muscle and skin are moved together in a DPFL, there is less ability to tailor a result for the patient. In contrast, a SMAS Lift provides targeted treatment to both muscle and skin and individually, allowing for better customization.

That spontaneous performance marked the beginning of a journey that would change music history. The group was first known as the “Little Knight Children,” a name that reflected their family connection. As their popularity grew, they eventually renamed their group The Pips, honoring their cousin James Woods whose nickname was “Pip.”

or Merald “Bubba” Knight Jr. also known as Mr. Bubba, music was never simply a career—it was a calling that began in childhood. Long before the bright lights, sold-out concerts, and Grammy Awards, his first stage was the Sunbeam Choir at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Atlanta, where a young man discovered the power of harmony, faith, and performance. “I first started singing as a youngster in the Sunbeam Choir at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church,” Bubba recalls. “As for when I started singing with the Pips, that story goes all the way back to my tenth birthday.” Friends had gathered to celebrate the occasion when a neighborhood child offered to bring his record player so everyone could enjoy music. But when a disagreement over the songs being played caused him to leave with the record player, the party suddenly came to a stop. “All the kids decided to perform in some way,” Bubba says. “My sisters Brenda and Gladys, my cousins William and Eleanor Guest and I decided we’d sing a song. My mother (S. Elizabeth Knight aka Mama Knight) was sitting in her bedroom window and heard us sing and was impressed. Later after the party she called us all in the house and asked us if we would like to be a group... she was a visionary you see...she saw something special in us.”

The name would eventually become legendary as the world embraced Gladys Knight & The Pips, a group whose timeless music, unforgettable harmonies, and powerful performances earned them a permanent place in entertainment history. Among the many milestones of Bubba Knight’s remarkable career, one moment remains especially unforgettable: winning two Grammy Awards on the same night. “Two different songs, from two different record companies—Motown Records and Buddah Records,” Mr. Knight remembers proudly. The evening became even more memorable because of the legendary presenters who shared the moment with them. “The first award was presented by Moms Mabley and Kris Kristofferson,” Bubba Knight recalls joyfully. “The second came from The Jackson Five.” Through his role as the official Ambassador for the Las Vegas based Emmy &Tony Award nominated 501c3 nonprofit community organization, Broadway In The HOOD and The Legacy Theatre of Excellence, Nevada’s first African American owned and operated Theatre/ Education complex, Bubba continues a lifelong commitment to inspiring young people through the arts. His connection to Broadway In The HOOD grew from a shared passion with founder and executive director Torrey Russell, whose mission is to provide young people in underserved communities with opportunities, professional training, mental health services, and workforce development through performing arts education, mentorship, and community engagement.

“When I saw what Broadway In The HOOD was doing, it reminded me so much of my beloved mother Elizabeth Knight’s organization, Talents Galore. My involvement felt natural—like I was continuing part of her legacy. It felt like it was in my DNA.” On Saturday, September 5, The Legacy Theatre of Excellence home of the first ever African American Entertainment Museum will proudly induct Bubba Knight & Gladys Knight & The Pips with their very own exhibit that honors this legendary entertainer with a special celebration recognizing both his 84th birthday and an extraordinary 74 years in the entertainment industry. The event will also celebrate the grand opening of the Merald “Bubba” Knight exhibit, featuring rare photographs, stage costumes, awards, memorabilia, and treasured artifacts chronicling his historic career. risti King has been performing for most of her life. In fact, she was only nine years old when she made her first professional stage appearance in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. By the time she was 12, she was already a local celebrity, appearing on radio and television, performing in nightclubs and hotels and headlining the Oregon State Fair for three years. Music was clearly in her future. Kristi trained with a vocal coach who had worked with the Mouseketeers and the Christy Minstrels, giving her an early start in the business. GRILLE TALK Hello Loren, I have a 2011 Honda Odyssey. It has a 6-cylinder engine. I have failed smog multiple times for Codes P0301-P0306 and P0300. I have had numerous repairs performed at a cost of over $3000. A new computer, spark plugs, and coils. All 6 injectors. The timing components were replaced a few months ago. I have 120k on it. My vehicle runs great! It just will not pass smog. Compression is over 180 psi on all 6 cylinders. I change my oil every 4 months with full synthetic. Do you have any suggestions? ~ Smogged out Dear Smogged out, I am not sure of what types of shops you are entrusting. These Honda V-6 engines are valve lash sensitive. When the engine is cold, the valve train contracts. The valves actually sink into the valve seats. The misfires are not harsh enough to feel, but the vehicle’s computer is sophisticated enough to detect them. At 120k, a valve adjustment should have been suggested multiple times if your repair shop is familiar with Honda engines. I hope this helps. ~ Loren
