Time is elusive. It marches forward like a soldier. It drips slowly like a leaky faucet; it rushes down like a spring torrent. But when we turn toward God's purposes, time is made sacred and precious in its passing.
2025 was sacred and precious in many ways. We said farewell to two faithful servants for decades of inspired service, Pastor David Turner and Print & Publications Manager Katrina Carney. We welcomed back the effervescent enthusiasm of Minister of Music Jennifer Hamm after a year away, and brought Pastor Ron Hawkins onto our team for an interim season. We saw Shay Jennings and Olivia Holliday join VPC's staff to continue their ministry to Middle & High School students and to our nursery.
We also marked the passing of long-time members, celebrating their lives with sorrow and thankfulness. We said hello to dozens of new covenant partners, who bring new gifts and energy to our work. The mosaic of our common life is never static.
We saw new initiatives with the Young Adult Community Group launch and a new way to develop in faith with Micro Groups. We supported and cheered on ministry partners, local and international, as they grew and developed.
2025 was also a time of sacred expectation as VPC looks forward to a new Senior Pastor. Please continue to pray, with hope and confidence, for our Pastor Nominating Committee as they search, interview, and evaluate.
Each day each of us continues our work, encouraged by the joy and energy we feel in this community, trusting that God is making us anew and forming us as forever people in the here and now. Blessings for 2026.

Outreach & Discipleship/Spiritual Growth Pastor
We have reached a new level at the Woodard home: my boys can play well together! It is so fun to watch them create games and observe my older son teaching my younger son how to play their new activity.
As I was sitting on the couch watching them (yes, I can now sit on the couch in approximately seven-minute spurts) it dawned on me that this is a snapshot of the discipleship process.
The discipleship process is what happens when we grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus. It is a process that happens as we walk the journey together and learn from each other. 2025 gave so many opportunities to grow as a disciple of Christ at VPC. One new way we did that is through Micro Groups, a program I am every excited about. Micro Groups are a group of three or four people, who read scripture on their own throughout the week and then join together to discuss what God is doing in their life.
The telos—the purpose—of Micro Groups is for disciples to make disciples; at the end of each year each Micro Group splits and each member begins to lead their own. This is what life in a faith community is all about; disciples making disciples. For this, and for countless other programs, prayers, and relationships, I am grateful for 2025 and excited for what God will do in 2026.

RON HAWKINS
Interim Congregational Care Pastor
Early in ministry I served Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette, Indiana as their Congregational Care Pastor. My charge: Equip the congregation to better care for itself.
It was a breath of fresh air after serving in churches where Pastors were expected to do all the caring (to be fair, a big part of that expectation lived in the minds of the pastors).
What a privilege it is to serve as the part-time Interim Congregational Care Pastor at VPC, a faith community that sincerely cares. What a pleasure it is to come alongside your Deacons, Stephen Ministers, Lay Hospital Chaplains, and First Impression teams; watching them be the hands and feet of Jesus, seeing them moving in the Spirit; lending a listening ear, a steady shoulder, an encouraging word or faith-filled prayer.
Why do we care? Simple. It’s because He cares first and most:
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
—2 Corinthians 1:3&4
We care because The Father of compassion cares. We care because Jesus showed how much He cares as He hung on the cross. VPC is a faith community that cares because of those who came before us as well as those who serve today. Behind the front-facing servants are “behind the scenes” leaders who gather monthly to pray, plan, and implement our compassionate care ministries. Without them, VPC would not be the caring community that she is.
As we reflect on the best of 2025 and move into 2026, we do so with gratitude to God for what He has done, is doing, and is yet to do to us, in us and through us— showing a confused and hurting world that there is God who cares.
We, the Pastors and Staff at VPC, feel blessed to share this time, this place, and this ministry with you. Your encouragement and energy are a beautiful and powerful response to our gracious God!
