Fall is here, and with it anticipation for what God is doing in our hearts, at VPC, and around the world. In this brochure you’ll find every program, class, and event our ministries are planning. There is a lot to do, and ways to get involved at VPC. Feel free to reach out to any of the staff members listed in the brochure if you have any questions. We are so thankful that you are a part of our community, and we’re excited to partner with you as we see what God is doing in our lives, in our families, and in our communities. Sunday Worship
Chapel, 8AM
The Chapel affords an intimate and acoustically exceptional worship experience. Seating is close to the pastors and musicians, and the 360 degree “Light of the Universe” stained glass surrounds the building.
Sanctuary, 9AM
The Sanctuary offers a soaring ceiling and time of worship through traditional elements of organ and choir. The largest building at VPC is a place for all people to experience God’s presence in a unique setting.
Landes Center, 10:30AM
Worship in the Landes Center tends to be less formal with a powerful drive. Music is led by the VPC Praise Band, which plays current popular worship music in a visual-driven setting with set pieces and screens.
VPC Community Worship Single Service
We value the opportunities to bring together each of our worshipping communities and celebrate and worship together. Join us as we lift our spirits and voices together on this special Sunday. After the service a Congregational Meeting will be held to elect the next class of church leadership (Elders, Deacons, and Trustees). A free lunch reception will be held after the meeting!
Chancel Choir
9 & 10:30AM worship services Prior to Sunday School children worship for a time with their family and listen to a message specifically for them. It is an opportunity for kids to hear music, prayer, and a message in worship.

VPC’s Music Ministry is dedicated to glorifying and serving God through different expressions of music. If you love music and creativity, join us! You’ll find a Christian community of fellow music lovers.

We sing everything from classical to 20th Century. The Chancel Choir is open to all skill levels; if you love to sing in a choir, this is the place for you!

Rehearsal: Sundays, 8:30AM, Landes Center Plays most Sundays at the 10:30AM Worship Service Travis Kingma: travisk@vpc.church The Worship Band is made up of vocalists, keyboard, bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and drums. We often add violin and cello. This group is eager to glorify God through powerful and driving worship music. Infant - Two years old Here infants and toddlers are introduced to their church home. We provide them with a safe and enjoyable environment, giving you peace of mind while you participate in church activities. Please register your child for Sunday School: vpc.church/children. Three years old - fifth grade No class September 2, December 30 Our theme this year, Keys to the Kingdom, based on Matthew 16:19, reminds us that the keys to the kingdom of heaven are given to Christ’s disciples, those who follow him. At VPC we believe the church is a partner with parents as they raise their children as disciples of Christ. Take a look at the Family Workshops offered this fall. All Family Workshops are offered during 10:30AM worship following the children’s message.
Weekdays for preschool kids Mini EXPLORERS! (3-5 year olds)
Tuesdays, October 16 - November 6, 2-3PM, Calvin Center Mini EXPLORERS! is a great extended day opportunity for smaller kids. Activities are similar to the older kids, but age-appropriate.
Sunday, October 21 9:30AM (only one service), Sanctuary We celebrate one of the milestones in the life of the church each year as we give personalized Bibles to each of our third grade kids. Advent Wreath & Luminaria Party Sunday, December 2, 4:30-6:30PM, Landes Center Bring an appetizer or dessert to share, and join us for an evening of fun and fellowship! Sign up to make an Advent Wreath! Come help assemble nearly 1,000 luminarias for Christmas Eve.

Families of 3rd Graders: How to read your Bible
September 16 This class is a precursor to the presentation of 3rd grade Bibles on October 21. This class gives tips to families to support and encourage spending time studying their Bibles with their children.
Families of Middle and High School Students: Internet Safety and Techwise Faith (two-part Family Workshop)
September 9 & 16, 9-10:15AM Join us for a two-part workshop. On September 9 parents and students will hear speakers from NotMyKid in separate breakout groups then have a chance to discuss what that means as Christians the following Sunday, September 16.
Families of High School Seniors Preparing to Launch
November 4, 9-10:15AM Whether this is the first or last time you are preparing to launch a child into adulthood, it can be a challenging and unique journey. Join us for tips to help make this transition successful and meaningful while continuing to stay emotionally connected.

RightNow Media is a service offering thousands of Christian videos for you to access anytime, anywhere. RightNow Media has Bible teaching and practical content for adults, youth, and children. There are studies by respected pastors and teachers, original RightNow videos, and recordings of Christian conferences. Best of all, you can view these videos from your computer, tablet, or even your phone! Videos can be accessed by individual members and their families or streamed by Community Groups or Bible studies. We’re excited about the ways you can use this resource to grow in your faith. What is Oasis?
Oasis was born from a desire to create a time during the week to bring people together to eat, to learn, and to build relationships. We know you’re busy, and carving out time to come to church during the week is challenging. That’s why VPC is setting aside Wednesday evenings, where everyone in the community can come and spend some time with great people growing closer to God. Food trucks will offer affordable items for purchase. Pastor David Joynt is also excited about Oasis: I am putting Oasis Community Wednesdays onto my calendar every week. I can’t wait to deepen bonds with people I meet and greet on Sundays. Come and sample the food trucks, hear the choirs, explore your questions in the classes, and make some new friends. We’re excited about the ways you can use this resource to grow in your faith.
Alpha Course*
Wednesdays, September 12 - November 14 6-8PM, Room 415/416, Cost: Free Over 29,000,000 people around the world have gone through Alpha in the last 30 years! For believers, this is an exciting time of renewing and deepening your understanding of core Christian doctrines. For seekers, this is a comfortable and safe place to learn more about Christianity and ask questions. The evening includes a meal, a DVD lesson, and small group time to discuss the evening’s topic. Discerning Your Spiritual DNA with Rev. Tim Smith*
Tim Smith, Executive Director of Water from Rock Wednesdays, September 19 - November 14 6-7PM, Chapel, Cost: Free This course explores how we nurture and grow our relationship with God, self, and others, with emphasis on discerning our spiritual DNA and the unique way God created each of us to know and worship Him. Jesus doesn’t clone anyone! We will look at different stages of the spiritual journey and the spiritual practices best suited for each person and the stage of their journey. Presbyterian Women (PW)
Cooks’ Tour 2018
PW offers women at VPC meaningful ways to live out their faith in the midst of a caring community. For more than 200 years, Presbyterian women’s groups have strengthened the Presbyterian Church and played a major role in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and witnessing to the promise of God’s kingdom. All women are invited to join a Circle meeting. PW also offers a variety of activities that include fellowship, Bible study, worship, community service, and prayer.

Friday, September 21-Sunday, September 23 UCYC Camp, Prescott, AZ Cost: $135 (scholarships available) Register: vpc.church/men VPC is excited to hold its fifth annual men’s retreat. This will be a great weekend where new friendships are formed over food, activities, and fellowship. As we escape the normal routine of our lives and retreat to the hills of Prescott, we have an opportunity to hear God’s word more clearly and through that clarity deepen our relationships with Jesus. Featuring speaker Rev. Jimmy Farley Rev. Jimmy Farley has been in ministry for over 20 years. The main focus of his ministry is biblical teaching, leadership development, and engaging the next generation. He is optimistic about God’s pursuit of all people and desires to equip others to experience a full life with Jesus. Jimmy loves spending time with his family and some of his interests include basketball, reading, watching movies, hiking, eating chocolate and taking naps.

Navajo & Yavapai Elementary Schools
VPC participates in the Healthy Packs Program, which provides food packs for children who are at risk of not receiving adequate nutrition over the weekend. VPC also provides school supplies for each classroom and creates and maintains interactive learning spaces for students and teachers.

Our shelter includes a sanctuary for the family pet, the first such program in Arizona. Family Promise partners with VPC to provide safe overnight shelter, food, and compassion to families in crisis.

Together we build relationships and understanding. Work groups help renovate facilities, lead vacation bible school-type programs, and participate in community life.

After the service, members share a free community meal. Volunteers from VPC cook and serve dinner at The Spring several times throughout the year.

Using crisis nurseries, community centers, scholarships, and mobile medical clinic programs, Malawi fights for its existence. Valley Presbyterian Church has helped provide support to thousands of orphaned children and widows in the 11 years since the MOH opened.

We provide support for a wider spectrum of grief including suicide, drug overdose, death of a child, family-member alienation, divorce, as well as loss of a spouse. New attendees are always welcome. We believe recovery doesn’t come from knowledge, but from Christian hope, personal support, and emotional release.

Representatives from the Anthony Bates Foundation (ABF) will be on campus Sunday, September 16 and October 7 to make appointments and answer any questions. ABF is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through early detection of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), as they seek to eliminate preventable Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). What types of screenings will be offered? The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; it is self supporting through contributions. AA is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, does not engage in controversies, and neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.

Importance of VPF & Legacy Society: Some people may find it odd to think of the Foundation as a ministry. In fact, it certainly is – as our Foundation serves and supports our Valley Presbyterian Church. Since the Foundation’s inception 40 years ago, the Foundation has provided for the financial security of our church today. It is admirable to continue this tradition. I am truly thankful for our Trustees and their efforts to assure these funds grow and are used for the benefit of our church, our members, and those less fortunate.
