To do what we love, we need gear, but we also urgently need healthy waters, unspoiled coastlines, and a sustainable planet. It’s why we’re committed to minimizing our products’ environmental and social footprint, and why durability forms the foundation of our design philosophy. We continuously research and explore new materials and fibers for our collections, while using the most sustainable manufacturing practices available to us. Within this process, transparency is essential. It allows us to openly communicate our progress, challenges, and commitments, while actively engaging our network and industry to do the same.
B O A R D B A G M AT E R I A L S With the use of recycled PET, we’ve significantly reduced our reliance on virgin plastic. This not only minimizes our environmental footprint but also promotes a sustainable cycle of reuse, ensuring that materials stay in circulation, out of the waste stream, and conserve elementary resources.
W E T S U I T M AT E R I A L S This season, our wetsuit range grows with Natural Foam, 90% biobased from materials including rubber, oyster shells, plant oils, and sugarcane. This complements the renowned Yamamoto 39 and 40 rubber from Japan. Softer, lighter, and more durable than conventional petroleum-based neoprene, both alternatives set a high standard of performance with excellent rebound, making up about a third of our collection.
A P P A R E L M AT E R I A L S Our goal is to shift to materials that have a lesser environmental and social impact. We currently use organic cotton for our t-shirts and have switched to recycled polyester for around 70% of our polyester-based products. Each year more of our products are made with preferred materials.
PAC K AG I N G By creating generic packaging we optimize its use and reduce the amount of wasted leftover packaging. We also minimize the number of hangtags on our products. Paper and cardboard make up the bulk of our packaging – and when we do use plastic – we make sure it’s from recycled origin.
