OVEN GLOVES AT THE READY! St Paul’s Festival is calling all amateur bakers to showcase their skills and enter our exciting Festival BAKE OFF COMPETITION. No previous experience is necessary, just produce a Victoria Sponge and/or 12 scones to impress our celebrity judge, Brendan.
Competition instructions: 1. Participants can submit either or both of the following: VICTORIA SPONGE / 12 SCONES 2. The participant may choose the combination of flavours. 3. There is a cost of £2.50 per entry, and all proceeds go directly to the St Paul’s Church maintenance programme. 4. Bakes must be submitted no later than 12 midday. Judging at 1.30pm. 5. Winning entries will be announced in each category, along with the special award of ST PAUL’S STAR BAKER 2014 Judging criteria: Lightness and quality of bake, crumb and texture, harmony of flavours, creativity, finish and presentation Any further enquiries: wardens@saintpaulbrum.org
Brendan Lynch Brendan’s flamboyant and beautiful baking came to public view through the 2012 series of Great British Bake-Off in which he reached the final. Since that time he has been busy with a range of projects. He regularly gives talks and demonstrations and judges baking competitions at venues throughout the UK and Ireland. Most recently he has taken to the waves as a demonstrator with Saga Cruises. Brendan also contributes recipes to magazines and has served as the public face of several national health initiatives. He can be found teaching baking at Seasoned Cookery School in Derbyshire twice a month. In addition to baking Brendan is a keen gardener. His garden has appeared on BBCTV and in national magazines. For six consecutive years he opened his garden under the National Garden Scheme, raising around £24,000 in total for Macmillan Cancer Support. He also designs gardens for friends and has completed over 40 designs in the past 10 years. When not baking or tending to his garden Brendan enjoys playing the cello and walking his two year old labradoodle, Monty.
