This quarter your kids will enjoy stories about three Old Testament leaders.
Joseph’s Dreams follows Joseph from the special gift he received from his dad all the way to when his family moved to Egypt. When his mean brothers intended to get rid of Joseph, God was with him. When he was in jail, God was with him. When the dreams of his family bowing down to him came true, God was with him. God is with us too.
Moses in Charge explores God’s special plan for Moses. Like Joseph, Moses lived in Egypt. His family loved him and cared for him. When Moses grew up, God sent Moses to tell Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to let God’s people go. God cared about His people as Moses led them out of Egypt. He cares for us too.
Joshua Leads looks at the exciting things God did when it was finally time to go to the new home He had promised to His people. The city of Jericho had very tall walls, but they were no match for God! Joshua and the people trusted God and did what He said. Then the walls came crashing down and showed everyone that God can do anything. We can trust God to help us too.

Every lesson begins with a page just for you. You’ll get an overview of how the featured Bible story connects to the truth—or Faith Fact—that your kids need to know. These monthly lessons have weekly learning activities that emphasize a common theme.
About the Lesson
Preschoolers learn best with lots of repetition, so the next 3 pages lead you through what you’ll share every week for the month. Lessons begin with activities to introduce the lesson theme, but we don’t expect you to do them all each week. Playtime is important too!
As you get ready for Bible Time, take time to worship and pray with your kids. Then go over the Faith Fact and Faith Verse with actions for kids to learn.
Sharing the Bible story each week is easy with the Bible Picture Cards. As kids become familiar with the story through repetition, let them tell you what happens next. Two important things follow: Talk About It and Respond.
The last pages of every lesson feature weekly activities. Snack ideas reinforce the lesson theme. Student cards have a fun activity for kids to do. Then there’s another learning activity or two to make each week unique. 1 2 3 4

About Your Toddlers & 2s
You get to make a first impression on your students as they learn to love God and the Bible. No doubt they have LOTS of energy and may have a hard time sitting still. So have realistic expectations about that.
Kids’ attention spans are usually limited to 2 minutes + 1 minute for each year of age.
If you teach primarily 2-year-olds, that means the target length for their attention is 4 minutes. Move pretty quickly through activities. Mix in playtime. Repeat the ones they love. Then trust the Holy Spirit to help things stick.
How your students learn best
• Love! Kids will love God, His word, and coming to church when you show them you’re glad they’re here.
• Move! Kids love to move around and go, go, go. That’s why we’ve got lots of games and activities in the lessons. Move and worship too.
• Watch! Show the Bible Picture Cards with the story. Review them often. Encourage kids to imitate you as you pray.
• Talk & Listen! Talk to them even if they aren’t yet able to respond. As they develop, they’ll talk more.
• Play! Play to learn, and take time to just play too.
• Pray! For them and with them.

SEPTEMBER
Joseph’s Dreams
While we hope life is wonderful for kids, we know that sometimes kids (and adults) have to face hard things. When those times come, kids need to know that God is always with them. In the Old Testament, Joseph shows us that God was with him all the time, even when his brothers were mean and sent him away to Egypt. But God was always with him.
OCTOBER
Moses in Charge
Moses shows kids that God cares for us from the time we are very young until we are old. God watched over Moses when he was a baby and kept him safe. When Moses grew up, God sent him to tell the king to let His people go. Then Moses led the people as they crossed the Red Sea on the way to the promised land.
NOVEMBER
Joshua Leads
It’s time to go into the land that God had promised to His people many years before. This Bible story shows us how we can trust God. Rahab was brave and protected two spies. The people obeyed God as they marched around Jericho. Then they got to see the walls fall down! Kids will learn that they can trust God too. Even when things are scary, God is always with us.

GETTING READY

• Cut 1 sheet of each color construction paper into small squares. Tape 1 sheet of each color on the table.

In our Bible story, Joseph helped the king of Egypt gather food.
When your family gets food, where do you go? You go to the store. Maybe your family grows food too. Can you pretend to shop for food?
Have kids take turns shopping for the food.
GAME—COAT RACE
(Colorful button-up shirt)
Have kids sit in a circle. Hold up one of the shirts, point out the colors.
Look at this pretty shirt. See all the colors?
Joseph’s dad gave him a colorful coat to wear. Why did his dad give him the coat? Joseph’s dad loved him very much.
Let’s take turns putting on the colorful coat and spinning around in the center of the circle.
HANDS-ON LEARNING— COLOR MATCH
(Construction paper, 4 colors; scissors)
Cut each color paper in half. Then cut one half of each color into small squares.
See the pretty colors. Joseph’s dad gave him a coat with lots of pretty colors. Can you match the smaller pieces of paper to the matching colors of bigger paper?
ACTION VERSE—JOSEPH
Joseph told his big brothers about two dreams he had. (Pretend to sleep.)
He said they would bow down. That made them really mad. (Bow down, look mad.)
They sent him far away, and now they were glad. (Wave goodbye.)
But Joseph went to jail, and he was very sad. (Pretend to cry.)
His family came for food. They bowed down low. (Bow down.)
Joseph was so happy; he invited them to stay. (Smile big, then sit down.)

Our Bible story is about Joseph. Good and bad things happened to Joseph. God was always with him no matter what happened. Our Faith Fact is about that. It says God is with me. Say it with me. God is with me.
Today we will learn how God made our beautiful world! He made the sky. He made the water. He made the animals. But the best thing He made is you and me. I’ll say our Faith Fact. God made you and me. Now you say it with me. God made you and me.

(Hold up the Bible.) This is the Bible. The Bible is God’s word. We can learn God’s word together. Can you say our Bible verse with me?

JOSEPH GETS A NEW COAT (Show Picture A.)
Has anyone ever given you a special gift? What did you get? One day Joseph’s dad gave him a special coat. It had a lot of pretty colors in it. What colors do you see in Joseph’s coat? Then Joseph dreamed that his big brothers would bow down to him. That made Joseph’s big brothers really mad.
JOSEPH IS IN JAIL (Show Picture B.)
Joseph’s brothers were so mad at Joseph that they sent him far away to Egypt. Joseph ended up in jail! He was sad. Do you think God was with Joseph? Yes, He was. God never left Joseph even when others tried to hurt him by sending him to jail.
JOSEPH HELPS THE KING (Show Picture C.)
One day, the king of Egypt needed help. He had two dreams. God told Joseph what the dreams were about. God said everything would be good for seven years. Then things would be very bad for seven years. The king chose Joseph to help him save food. God was with Joseph even when things were bad.
JOSEPH FORGIVES HIS FAMILY (Show Picture D.)
Joseph’s family was hungry. They went to Egypt to buy some food. The brothers bowed low before the ruler. Shh! Don’t tell them—it was Joseph! Joseph cried and hugged them. Joseph loved his family. Do you love your family? Joseph helped his family. Do you help your family? Joseph forgave his mean brothers. God had been with him all the time. Joseph was glad.

Have the kids build a “jail” around their bears before eating their snack.
Joseph was in jail. He was far away from family. But God was with Joseph all the time, even in jail.

Help kids stack the blocks to build a barn. Scatter the paper wads around the room.
Joseph helped the king prepare for bad years when they would not have grain. He built big barns that could hold lots of food.
Can you help to gather the grain and put it in the barn?
