Turks and Caicos Tourism Authority Bill Passed Experience Turks and Caicos’ Role Strengthened The Turks and Caicos Islands Government has taken a major step toward strengthening the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the country’s tourism industry with the passage of the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourism Authority Bill, legislation that formally establishes Experience Turks and Caicos as a statutory body responsible for leading the destination’s marketing, management and tourism development efforts. The legislation creates a modern governance framework for the organisation, positioning it to better respond to the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly competitive global tourism landscape while supporting the continued growth of the Turks and Caicos Islands’ most important economic sector. Importantly, the new legislation does not change the fundamental role of Experience Turks and Caicos as the country’s Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO). Rather, it strengthens the organisation’s ability to carry out that mandate through enhanced governance, funding, accountability, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement. Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Zhavargo Jolly, described the passage of the Bill as a significant milestone in the evolution of tourism in the Turks and Caicos Islands. "The establishment of Experience Turks and Caicos as a statutory authority is not a departure from the Destination Management and Marketing Organization model; it is an evolution of it," said Minister Jolly.
