The renovation of an abandoned building in the historic Over-TheRhine neighborhood; Artichoke, a retail cookware space, occupies the ground floor with two apartments above.

Recognition
I fabricated several fixtures of the retail interior at an off-site shop space: the steel frames of 15 floor shelves built to fit a sloped floor, a full-scale assembly of the LED-backlit wall system, and aluminum components to supplement a modular wall shelving system. Other contributions included production drawings for the retail and apartment interiors.

A residential infill in the Over-TheRhine neighborhood; objectives included balancing privacy and sufficient daylighting, anticipating future construction on adjacent sites, and establishing contemporary solutions to urban infill in a historic district. I facilitated schematic design documentation and tasks included documenting existing site conditions, coordinating egress, reconciling floor area and setbacks, and establishing precedents for building envelope details to negotiate historic guidelines.

Transportable Performance Environment

Louder Than A Bomb (LTAB) is the largest youth poetry festival in the world. The organization recruited UC MetroLab to propose, test, and construct a mobile setting for its first annual Cincinnati event.
I managed much of the welding and steel fabrication for the final assembly, tested the structural steel components, and worked closely with other team members to coordinate all components of the final assembly.
The studio worked directly with more than 12 academic and community organizations and sponsors to design and construct prefabricated performance environments for several events. The Poetry Wall was 1 of 3 components implemented into the final performance; a stage and dj booth were built by other teams in the same 16-person studio.

The algorithm age has manifest a frontier beyond the materially stagnant physical spaces of a previous century, and before the inexact and perpetually mutable digital language. By way of the robot, fibres of technology may weave into the fabrics for construction. A fortress for the revolution – the organism of domestic autonomy may be your host.
Competition
This proposal seeks to re-examine the influence of digital automation and global interconnectivity in the human environment. It begins to imagine an autonomous and image-based architecture free from the constraints of program and user-input. The human occupant becomes more migrant than master; such as in the science fiction writing of H.P. Lovecraft.

01: Concerning the Spiritual

Inspired by the ambience of places of worship, like St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, and La Tourette monastery in France — this project is a brief exploration of the spirituality of such places in a public context. Its purpose is to introduce an environment of solitude, removed from the activity of the city. Daylighting, outward views, and visibility from afar were the most important considerations.
The idea of a storefront studio emerged over dinner conversation while abroad as a way to continue working outside of familiar environments upon returning from Europe. It would be a continuation of the Nomadic Studio that we (24 students + 1 professor) practiced in the streets of Paris, Basel and Istanbul.

Both destination and beacon in the Cincinnati skyline, the tower is visible from Findlay Market and the streetcar route, and marks a connection between Over-the-Rhine and Clifton Heights neighborhoods. The structure is intended to foster a series of individual experiences — a place of quietude; for relaxation, reflection and refuge.

It materialized in an available storefront near campus, an unfinished space that we furnished with desks, wall paneling, Knoll chairs, and ultimately a collection of research, sketches and photos, travel mementos, and individual design projects. We held a public exhibition with several hundred visitors to disseminate the products of the studio at the end of the semester.
