St. Louis City SC soccer team will launch its inaugural season in 2023, while its new stadium facility CityPark looks to become an anchor for downtown By Wendy Todd Next month, the Major League Soccer team, City SC, will kick off its first season here in St. Louis. But instead of playing in Centene Stadium, they will be playing in CityPark, the new name of the multi-use stadium facility. “After discussions with Centene, we have agreed to reshape the current partnership with them and the focus moving forward will be on developing community health and wellness programming throughout the region,” said Carolyn Kindle, St. Louis CITY SC’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
CityPark is slated to be completed next month as the team joins Major League Soccer for the 2023 season. But in addition to being a soccer stadium, CityPark will also be a space for other events that bring community together. “CityPark will celebrate what is great about the St. Louis region, the incredible food, music, art and architecture,” said Dennis Moore, chief revenue officer of St. Louis CITY SC. “The stadium and surrounding campus will be busy and active year-round. Aside from MLS matches, we will continue to host international sporting events. Our organization will continue to be aggressive
in the pursuit of events that will bring community pride and show the world that St. Louis is an international city with so much to offer.” Events are already being held at CityPark, and it is anticipated that over 300 events will be hosted at the space this year. Some of the features of CityPark stadium, which is on over 30,000 acres, features 22,500 seats, and a 125,000 square-foot Lou Fusz Plaza on the east side of stadium, that will host gameday activities, public festivals and events.
