s the Salt Lake Bees settled into their new home at The Ballpark at America First Square last season, team ownership wanted fans to have visits they’d remember. And that involved more than just the play of the Pacific Coast League team that’s been delighting baseball fans in Utah for decades. It involved ballpark cuisine. So the call went out to Chef Leonard Love and Dominic Darboghossian, who now serves as vice president of food and beverage. And the creativity began. “It came about with a vision, a longer term vision in play with Major League Baseball and the state of Utah,” Darboghossian said, fully aware of the efforts being made by the Larry H. Miller Companies to attract an MLB expansion team to the state in the next
four or five years. “We wanted to showcase what we are able to do here on a smaller scale, putting more focus on the premium experience for fans coming to baseball games. We coined the phrase, ‘Minor League in a Major Way.’ We’re providing an elevated experience to the fan base and giving MLB a little taste of what’s to come.” “The literal question was, ‘what is something that you normally can’t find in a ballpark,’” Chef Love said. “Then we started to develop different things, making sure they were the highest level of quality — the food is hot, always fresh, looks good and tastes and smells great. Those are our main focuses.” Consider some of these dining options: On the top level of the stadium concourse for premium priced tickets, fans can enjoy a carving station on weekends with meats and proteins, hand-breaded fried chicken, and fanfare bacon-wrapped hot dogs.
