Keate said that high-performance low-E glass nowadays is more selective on how much heat it lets in and how much cold it lets out at night, so they turn out to be a net energy gain when they’re the right size and fit for the application.

“We’ve been doing this for 60 years,” Keate said. “And very, very seldom do skylights leak. Most always, when there is a leak associated with the skylight, it’s just improper installation or flashing, something that can be easily fixed.”
