n the Class 6A ranks, no one could topple the Riverton girls lacrosse team this past season. During the team’s run to the 6A state title, Riverton was rarely even challenged. The Silverwolves finished 20-1 overall and 6-0 in Region 2 play. The team’s only defeat of the season came on April 28 at Park City, the eventual Class 5A champs, by the count of 9-7. It was otherwise an unblemished campaign for the Silverwolves, which captured its first-ever state title in girls lacrosse. In thrilling fashion, Riverton, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, outlasted top-seeded Skyridge 8-7 in overtime in the title game on May 21. To illustrate how potent Riverton’s offense had been all season, the eight goals were the second-fewest the Silverwolves scored in 2026 — with the seven in the defeat at Park City being the fewest. But eight goals were enough to get past a resilient Skyridge squad.

Things looked dire early on for Riverton, however, as it fell behind 6-3 at halftime to Skyridge, the champions from Region 3, which entered the game with a 20-1 mark. Coming into the contest, Skyridge’s only defeat had come at the hands of a team from California—and the Falcons’ talent showed. The second half was a different story. The Silverwolves surrendered just a single goal in the second half while scoring four times leveling the game at 7-7 at the end of regulation. In overtime, senior Maggie Bird scored the game winner, lifting her team to victory—and lifting the championship trophy for the school and program. Bird had three goals on the day—sharing
