Mission Statement

We strive to enhance and improve our community by providing a fun and safe environment for youth and adults to recreate, learn, and enjoy quality leisure time.

Sportsmanship

At Draper Parks and Recreation, sportsmanship isn’t just something we talk about, and it’s not optional. Our goal is to promote good sportsmanship and fair play for all participants, coaches, spectators, officials, staff and any others involved in our programs. We need to attain this goal.

Act like you know you should and demonstrate a high level of class and sportsmanship.

Youth Team Information

Draper City allows youth participants to register for a program and request to be placed on the same team as their friends, or register as a team. We do this for several reasons: the safety of kids, parents knowing coaches, transportation issues, fun, comfort, etc. We do not discourage individual registration, but do make it possible to request other players or a team. We do reserve the right to limit “competition” league players per team or move a team to a proper league to ensure fairness for all.

When possible, we try to keep youth within the Canyons School District elementary school boundaries.

Notice of Background Check for all Volunteers

In an effort to keep everyone safe while volunteering in an official Draper City capacity, all volunteers are required to submit to a Criminal History Background Check. This requirement is for all volunteers such as: youth coaches, program volunteers, committee members, Parks and Recreation staff, instructors, etc. This is done for the security and safety of our residents. We thank you for your support

Recreation Manager

We hear the term “quality of life” often, but what does it really mean? And how can living, working and playing in Draper City really add to a quality of life? Within the Parks and Recreation Department at Draper City, this is one of our main goals — to offer and support a high quality of life.

We believe living in close proximity to so many trails is an advantage and adds to that quality. We encourage you to get out and enjoy our paved, dirt, and bike trails. Find a new trail, get out and exercise, and enjoy the outdoors.

We have tons of events to enjoy. With recreation leagues, classes and instructional programs, I hope you will check them out and consider joining. With over 40 parks throughout the City, there is something for everyone.

Whatever you do, know that a high quality of life is important. Getting outside, participating, and exercising can add to this. We hope we can serve you and make life in Draper great.

Sportsmanship and respect are mandatory in all programs. Participants, coaches, spectators, etc. may be ejected at any time without prior warning if deemed necessary.

The use of alcohol or tobacco while participating in a Draper Recreation program is not allowed. Alcohol is not permitted in City Parks.

The Recreation Department will form teams based on individual registrations to the best of their ability. All considerations will be taken into account but not guaranteed.

In youth programs, players must enroll in their current grade & play in that league. Advanced players may play “up” one grade level with authorization.

For adult programs, all participants must be 16 years or older.

Participants are encouraged to have their own insurance policy. Draper City is not liable for injury or “Acts of God”. All parking is “park at own risk”.

All dates and times are subject to change.

All fields/facilities used for private use need to be scheduled through Draper Parks & Recreation and all fees need to be paid in advance.

The Draper Parks & Recreation staff has final authority in all situations and circumstances.

All volunteers including youth coaches, program volunteers, committee members, Parks & Recreation staff, instructors, etc. are required to submit a Criminal History Background Check. This is done for the security and safety of our residents and participants.

If Draper City, its agents, coaches, volunteers, Parks & Recreation staff, or parents or legal guardians suspect a youth athlete has sustained a concussion or traumatic head injury while participating in a sporting event, the athlete shall be removed immediately. Upon removal of an athlete suspected of sustaining a concussion or a traumatic head injury, a written clearance from a qualified health care provider is required before the athlete can return to participate in any sporting events. Registration periods for various programs will be established by Draper Parks & Recreation.

1. A registration form must be completely filled out and signed by a custodial parent/guardian.

2. All fees must be paid in full at time of registration.

4. Youth are grouped on teams according to Canyons School District elementary school boundaries, charter school, or other school choice if possible, however, requests are not guaranteed.

5. Special requests including friend, coach, team, and school choice will not be accepted after the registration deadline.

What’s New in Draper Parks & Rec?

The Unity Playground opened to the public last October at Draper City Park. Over 90% is accessible to children with mobility devices, and features multiple kinds of play areas, including sensory-focused play.

The pickleball courts at Southfork Park are expanding! Six additional courts are being added, with construction expected to be completed in August.

Hey Draper, my name is Mark Resch and I am the City’s new Recreation Manager. I come to you with 20 years of recreation experience gained while working first for Orem Recreation as a coordinator, and then Spanish Fork Parks & Recreation as a supervisor. I hold a Bachelor’s in Recreation Management from BYU and a Master’s in Public Administration from Villanova University. I live in Spanish Fork with my wife Summer, and three kids who keep me very busy with their own recreation activities when I am not working on recreation activities for your kids.

I have a passion for recreational youth and adult activities, for both teams and individuals. My goal as Recreation Manager is to continue to build on the excellence of past managers and make the programs in Draper the best in the state. Draper is unique in the variety of recreational opportunities that it can offer its residents, and I work every day to see what kind of opportunities I can create for the youth and adults of Draper. I am always available. Feel free to contact me any time.

A conservation garden supporting Utah’s native biodiversity is being built at the Draper Parks and Recreation building. It is expected to be completed by mid-summer.

Draper’s trail system has something to offer for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re out for a leisurely stroll, morning run, or bombing down a black diamond on your mountain bike, our trail system has it all. With over 25 miles of paved trails within the city, 17 miles of hiking-only trails, 17 miles of downhill mountain bike trails, and 90 miles of multi-use dirt trails open and usable most of the year, our trails see over one million users annually.

Having so many trails and users requires a few simple rules. Use only open, dry trails. Using muddy trails creates erosion, and ruts, and is difficult and expensive to repair.

Common courtesy is necessary for all to have the best possible outdoor experience one desires. This is known as trail etiquette — when one user moves aside for another. Bikers and hikers yield to equestrians. Say “hey” and ask riders if you should step up or down the trail. Bikes yield to hikers, and all downhill users yield to uphill users.

Get out and explore all Draper trails has to offer, you won’t be disappointed.

Looking for an easy hike that’s perfect for the whole family? Deer Ridge Drive is a 1.5-mile dirt loop trail on Draper’s South side. This multi-use, double-track trail is popular with hikers, bikers, and even horseback riders, so you’re sure to see some interesting sights along the way.

One of the best things about Deer Ridge Drive is that it’s dog-friendly. If you’re looking for a fun outing for you and your furry friend, this is the perfect spot — just make sure to keep your dog on a leash at all times, and clean up after them.

Whether you’re a fan of the Deer Ridge Drive trail, or have never been before, there’s more good news — a brand new trailhead is scheduled for construction this summer. Located at the end of Deer Ridge Drive, this new trailhead will include 44 paved parking stalls, restrooms, two picnic shelters, and a drinking fountain, meaning you can start and end your hike with all the amenities you need.

Until the new trailhead is complete, Deer Ridge Drive is still worth a visit. Offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, it’s an easy enough hike for beginners, or families with young children. Grab your hiking boots, leash up your dog, and head on over to Deer Ridge Drive for a fun day in the great outdoors.
