T
he first indoor dry-slide recreation facility in the state is now open in Millcreek at 2330 E. 3300 South. Slick City Action Park took over the former Joann’s building, a 24,000-squarefoot space that is now home to 10 slides, a dodgeball air court, a web crawler and a Junior Jungle for guests 5 and under. Franchise owner Jordan Wade brought the experience to Utah after meeting the man who created the slides and trying it for himself. When he found out the heart-racing slides had been implemented into a Slick City Action Park franchise, he knew he wanted to be involved. “It’s like a water park with no water,” Wade said. “Every one of these slides is inspired by an extreme slide, maybe that you’ve seen at a water park, but they’re coated in a proprietary slick material. Then we cover it with a silicone lubricant and then you go down on a mat. It can be pretty fast with lots of adrenaline.” The patented slides create a high-energy experience. With 10 slides to choose from, visitors can start slow, with the 80-foot-long Cowabunga with banked curves and bumps, or A slider rides the Big Wave at Slick City Action Park. they can go right to the Mega Launch, which thrills riders with a steep drop and an airborne landing. Other attractions include the Fast Lane, a four-lane slide track built for racing; the Royal Flush, which swirls riders around before dumping them out of a massive bowl; the Python that features tight curves that wind guests through a fast-paced slide; and the Tailspin, a spiral ride good for first-time sliders. Wade’s favorite slide is the Big Wave, which shoots riders into a giant half-pipe, where they glide back and forth. “It combines my favorite parts of the slides,” he said. “There’s the initial speed, just the thrill of the drop. Plus, the fun of actually sliding down the slide, just the back and forth that you get after, it’s very fun. My second favorite is Riptide, our steepest one, and it’s just fast. You just go straight down.” While some indoor recreation parks cater to children, Slick City Action invites adults to get involved.
