We’ve waged a 7-month long battle against the coronavirus and if you’re like me you are getting very tired of everything COVID-19! I would just like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU! to all of you for doing your part to help slow the spread. Going forward, please remember to pay close attention to the basics of staying home if you’re sick, washing hands frequently, social distancing as much as possible and wearing masks in public. We are ready to welcome a Fall season ahead. It will have its own challenges, but as we have begun to find a rhythm – the gradual relaxation of heat and tipping our toes into safe ways to reconnect – we can begin to enjoy the blessings of our community again and look ahead with confidence. October brings a definite change in the weather with its cooler days and nights. We may see our first snowfall arrive. Being a for-

mer letter carrier and postal supervisor, I learned about the hazards of driving and walking in snow and icy conditions. If you decide to brave the elements and venture out in the winter weather, be sure to plan a route ahead of time. This is especially important if you plan on driving a car in wintry conditions because traffic moves very slowly. Having the right route can really make things a lot quicker, with less stress. Be sure to give yourself some extra time to find the best route, whether you are walking or in a car. Another great tip is to wear either shoes or boots that will provide good traction in the snow and ice. If you’re not wearing the right shoes the chances of a slip and fall are much increased, sometimes leading to serious injury. October is the time of year to get flu shots. Since they are widely available, I recommend every resident consider receiving this vaccination in order to eliminate one of the cyclical health concerns we have in the winter.
Late Mayor JoAnn Seghini receives posthumous award: Brent and Jennie Taylor Service Award At the Utah League of Cities and Towns virtual annual conference on September 25, the late Mayor JoAnn Seghini was honored posthumously with the 2nd Annual “Brent and Jennie Taylor Service Award” for her decades of community service. Jennie Taylor presented the award in honor of her late husband, Major Brent Taylor. Mayor Robert Hale accepted the award in person and gave a brief acceptance speech on her behalf. Major Brent Taylor was on his second term as the mayor of North Ogden when he took an unprecedented year of absence to serve his fourth deployment in Afghanistan. In November of 2018, Major Taylor was killed in an insider attack in Kabul. This made him the first sitting U.S. politician to be killed in action since the Civil War. To Mayor Taylor, God, family and country were everything and had become his mantra that steered his life. The ULCT created the Brent and Jennie Taylor Service award to honor elected officials in Utah municipal government who go beyond their duties as they serve their communities. “Mayor Seghini loved and cared for the residents of her city and they always came first,” said City Manager Kane Loader. Mayor Seghini would have been honored to receive this very special award.

Salt Lake County Animal Services Amnesty Late License Fee Forgiveness Program WHY PETS MUST BE LICENSED:
Make a fresh start for you and your pet! Salt Lake County Animal Services is providing an Amnesty Late License Fee Forgiveness Program for all pet licenses from September 2 through October 31, 2020. All residents in our jurisdiction are invited to take advantage of this program to get pet licenses up to date without having to pay a late penalty fee. Download the licensing application at AdoptUtahPets.org and visit “Licensing”. You can complete the process online (no contact!) Join the Unified Police Department Midvale Precinct, Choose Gang Free, and Midvale City for the Drive-Thru Choose Gang Free Halloween Extravaganza Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, October 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Bingham Junction Blvd. This is a free fun alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating. Put on your costume, pull up in your car, and let the us fill your bag with treats! All participants must come in a vehicle; no walkups will be permitted. Participants must enter Bingham Junction Blvd. through Center Street (7800 S), then will be directed south to view the decorated trunks, vote for the “Best Decorated Trunk”, and receive candy.
