What’s Already Happened Midvale Main Street Mural Festival: Near the end of June, Midvale City along with ALL CAPS Art Gallery held a mural festival on Main Street, unveiling 20 murals. We had six artists from right here in Midvale, several from across the State of Utah, and a few internationally recognized artists. These murals will be up for the foreseeable future, so stop by and check them out! Skate with the Mayor: At the very beginning of July, Midvale City, myself, and the Chill Foundation held a free event at Copperview Skatepark. Chill Foundation is a nonprofit organization that does youth empowerment through board-sports for low-income and at-risk youth. We offered free skate instruction and the opportunity to skate with myself and a professional skateboarder.
Free Summer Concerts in the Park: The Midvale Arts Council is holding free concerts in Midvale City Park every Friday until August 5. Each concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. It’s free, family-friendly, and fun! Utah Food Truck League: Each Friday night until August 26, enjoy food trucks at Midvale City Hall. Each week there is a new rotation of trucks, so come on by and try them out! After you get your food,

I’d encourage you to head over to Midvale City Park for the Free Summer Concerts in the Park series. Harvest Days – Neighborhood Block Parties: August 1 & 2, enjoy neighborhood block parties across our city! It’s a fun way to meet neighbors, build friendships, and develop a sense of belonging and security among residents. If you’re interested in hosting your own block party, you can register at MidvaleHarvestDays.com. Harvest Days – Hall of Honors: August 3, join the Midvale Arts Council for the Hall of Honors where they honor individuals who made significant contributions to Midvale. Harvest Days – Free Concert in the Park: August 5, enjoy the final Free Summer Concert with the band Exit Strategy. Before the concert, stop by Midvale City Hall for Food Truck Friday with the Utah Food Truck League. Harvest Days – Parade & Festival: Saturday, August 6, starting at 7:00 a.m. you can enjoy Baby Goat Yoga, the parade starts at 9:00 a.m. this year, and the festival starts at 2:00 p.m. End the evening with the band Coco’s Rumba Libre at 5:30 p.m., Crescent Super Band at 8:00 p.m., and finally the fireworks show at 10:00 p.m. Robin Hood – The Legendary Comedy: August 19-21, enjoy this play put on by the Midvale Arts Council. In this play, the familiar Robin Hood legend deviates into new ground, mostly for comedy’s sake. Midvale residents can get admission for only $3 per person. As Mayor, I’m proud of the many community events our city offers and supports. I hope to see you at many of these events throughout the summer!
Midvale City Glass Recycling Bin – NEW location The Midvale City glass recycling bin has been moved. The bin will no longer be in the parking lot of the Boys & Girls Club. The bin is now located off Stagg Street near Midvale Main Street. Momentum Recycling provides residents the opportunity to subscribe to a monthly curbside collection of their glass. For just $8/month (plus a one-time fee of $25), residents receive their own 35-gallon grey cart specifically for collecting glass recyclables. All colors of glass bottles and jars are accepted, and there is no need to rinse with water or remove labels. Momentum Recycling provides the monthly collection service, and bills residents directly. Make sure they always have on a collar with an ID tag, with up-to-date info. Watch out for these sounds of summer. Barbecues: If guests are going to be coming in and out of the front door or back gate, keep your pets in a secure area, or put them in their crate, if. An unsecured gate, or door left open, is the perfect opportunity for your pet to take themselves on an adventure without you.

Thunderstorms: According to the ASPCA, 1 in 5 pets goes missing after being scared by loud noises. Be sure to bring your pet indoors and keep them away from open windows when summer storms roll into your area. Fireworks: The loud noise of firework displays, big or small, are scary and disorienting to pets. Leave them at home, inside with a loud fan, or calming music. If the fireworks display is in your driveway, be sure to clean up the leftover firework debris, never underestimate what your dog may stick in its mouth. Fireworks are poisonous to pets. All pets in Salt Lake County can receive a free microchip at Salt Lake County Animal Services, pet licensing may be required depending on your city. Email animal@slco.org or come to Animal Services at 511 W 3900 S, Tue – Fri, 10-6 to get your pet microchipped. Find a lost pet? Contact your local animal control! The first-place pet owners look for a lost pet is the local shelter. How you can help: post a photo of them, where you found them and what shelter they went to on the NextDoor App or Utah Lost & Found Pets Facebook Group. 2022 Midvale Hall of Honors Inductees A long-time public servant and a longstanding community group have been chosen for induction into the Midvale Hall of Honors for 2022. Former City Manager Kane Loader and the Midvale Historical Society and Museum will be inducted into the Hall of Honors at a ceremony/reception to be held on Wednesday, August 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Midvale Performing Arts Center, 695 W. Center Street. Kane Loader retired from Midvale City in 2021 after working for the city for 32 years, including the last 16 years as City Manager. He previously served for several years as Director of Public Works. During his 32 years with the city, Kane saw the city more than double in size and become a thriving suburb in the heart of the valley. As Public Works Director, Kane was responsible for the old City Hall renovation (now the Midvale Performing Arts Center) and then the new City Hall construction. He was responsible for the widening of 7200 South between State Street and 700 East, which required the purchase of 99 properties as well as adjusting the utilities under that road. When the Fort Union area was annexed into Midvale, he was responsible for getting all the residents and businesses blended with the rest of the city. As City Manager, Kane and his staff were responsible for transforming the Sharon Steel Superfund Site from an unusable waste land to a fully functioning business park and residential area. His team also brought Bingham Junction into a functioning reality that is now filled with restaurants, retail stores, and entertainment venues. Kane’s wife Virginia summed it up by saying, “Kane’s life was Midvale City. He ate, slept, and breathed Midvale City.”

The Midvale Historical Society and Museum has been in existence since 1979 and has kept the historical heritage of Midvale City alive and well. The Society’s Board members and volunteers have dedicated countless hours to create a museum that tells a beautiful story of the city – from its first settlers in dug outs, to the Depression, to the war years when so many young lives were lost, to the years of prosperity. President Bill Miller spends several days at the Museum each week visiting with guests, maintaining hundreds of artifacts and thousands of photos, and ensuring that the stories of the past live on. Bill noted that city newspapers dating back to 1925 have all been digitized and are available to the public for viewing. Digital copies of the familiar “Midvale History” green book are also available online as well as on CD at the Museum. The Museum is located in the Midvale City Park and is open Tuesdays-Thursdays from Noon-4:00 p.m. In conjunction with the Hall of Honors ceremony, the Arts Council will also be hosting their annual Visual Art Contest that evening at the Midvale Performing Arts Center from 5-7pm. People are welcome to come enjoy the art and the Hall of Honors ceremony all in one place.
