BOUNTIFUL—The charity car show is held to raise money to provide warm winter clothes to elementary children in south Davis schools.
I
t’s time once again for the annual Coats for Kids Car Show June 13-14. It’s in its 27th year and sponsored by the Bountiful Rotary. The event is a charity car show to raise money to provide warm winter clothes to elementary children in south Davis schools. “There are about 18 schools,” said organizer Krista Simonsen. “We helped 827 kids last year.” Coats for Kids is a voucher program, she said. The principals and teachers from the schools identify the children in need and give a voucher to Walmart to the parent so the child can go shopping for a brand new winter coat, mittens and boots in their size.” The child gets to pick what they want and they don’t know their parent or guardian was not able to afford it without the voucher,” said Simonsen. “We want to preserve the dignity of the parent/guardian/grandparent.” The show kicks off at 5 p.m., Friday, June 13 on Main Street in Bountiful, she said. “We’ll be at the Bountiful Town Square Continued page 4 Fan favorite Smokin’ Tire Burnout entertains with squealing tires and smoke.
