It is located 35 miles from Sacramento and 55 miles from San Francisco, on the edge of the Sacramento Valley in Northern California. It has a population of just over 100,000, making it the third largest city in Solano County. HISTORY Vacaville was originally home to the Patwin (Ululato) people before becoming a Mexican land-grant settlement in 1842 under Juan Manuel Cabeza Vaca and Juan Felipe Peña. The town was formally laid out in the early 1850s, named after Vaca, and grew into a major agricultural center, particularly for fruit production, with a diverse immigrant workforce. Vacaville was incorporated in 1892 and has since experienced both natural disasters and notable modern events that have shaped the city. While agriculture remains part of its identity, Vacaville ’s economy has expanded to include biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and industrial production. The city offers a rich cultural and recreational scene, with historic sites like Peña Adobe, the Vacaville Cultural Center, the Vacaville Museum, and the Vacaville Art Gallery. Outdoor amenities include Centennial Park, a 265-acre community park with baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, and walking trails.
