Asweenter our 6thyear of MVYouthwehave muchtobeproudof - anenergized groupof 69 Founders,scholarshipgrantsto37 islandyouth totaling$3.5M whenfully paidout,andan injectionof $4 6M into11 islandprojectsthat serveour youth Andimportantly,in collaborationwithisland businesses,wehave developedprogramstoenlist andtrainhigh school graduatesinthecritical skillsneededby our growingisland economy

Thisyear,feelingthepressuresof competing serviceproviders,andrecognizingthat there arelingeringpocketsof underservedyouth populationsontheisland,wecommissioneda study of islandneedsfor our servedpopulation of birthtoage25.Wehaveseenthe preliminary resultsof thisstudy andare encouragedby theinformedresponsesthat we arereceiving Welook forwardtosharingthis study withyouindetail thissummer

CAMP JABBERWOCKY

Main Cabin Renovation and Expansion Award: $400,000

Mission: To provide a residential vacation camp for people with disabilities We provide recreation and enrich the lives of our campersby creating a supportive environment that promotes the fulfillment of human potential and fosters independence and self-determination while respecting diversity.

In2019,CampJabberwocky successfully ranitssummer overnight camp sessionsandFamily Campretreatsfor childrenandadultswithdisabilitiesfrom JunethroughSeptember,thenopeneditscampusandMainCabintothe VineyardMontessori School,Island GrownInitiative,VineyardIndependence Project,andseveral other local organizations.TheMontessori School hasits upper school at Jabberwocky andhosteditsfall play intheMainCabinandVIP hostedarchery lessonsthisfall.

Highlight:IslandGrownInitiative.IGI processedgleanedproduceall fall inour kitchen,andnow they arecookingsoupsthereanddistributingthemthrough healthcareprovidersandsocial workersthat visit new momsandfamiliesof all backgrounds.InNovember andDecember they havedistributed168 soupsto IslandHealthCare,TheVisitingNursesAssociation,theFood Pantry andthe social workersat theHospital,withmany of thosesoupsgoingtofood-insecure familieswithchildren.They arecontinuingthisprogramthroughthewinter,as well aspreparingsoupsinthekitchentoservefor April school vacationweek.IGI estimatesabout 250 mealswill beservedduringApril break.

In2020,CampJabberwocky isplanningtolaunchitsowncommunity programs withcollaborationfromlocal organizations,includingdinners,craft nights,and retreatssuchaswritingor movement workshopsfor youngadultsthroughout theyear.Inaddition,IGI ismeetingwiththedirector of BigBrother BigSister to organizeacookingclassinJanuaryor February for their programat Camp Jabberwocky.

VINEYARD FAMILY TENNIS

Bubble Replacement Award: $250,000

Mission: To provide tennis instruction to school-aged children. Through a combination of year-round progressive instruction, training and match play, VYT cultivates proficiency in a life-sport as well as instillsthe qualitiesof sportsmanship, commitment, perseverance and character in young people

It would beanunderstatement tosay that thegrant awardedtoVineyard Family Tennishasmadeasignificant impact ontheprogram Fundingfrom our extremely generous,longtime,solebenefactor wasset toend inAugust 2018 Our bubble,whichcoverstwotenniscourtsinthewinter months,was destroyed inapowerful nor?easter storm VFTfound itself inachallenging situationtosay theleast Thankstothegenerosityof MVYouth,an emergency grant wasawardedtoreplacethedamagedbubble

Asthenew bubblewasunder construction,VFTsought approval fromthe Martha?sVineyardCommission,Oak BluffsSelectmenandZoningBoardof Appealstopermit adult play at thefacility whenyouthprogramsarenot in session.Feescollectedfromadult playerssubsidizeyouthprogramsand allow for thedevelopment of anew,sustainablefundingmodel.

Withthenew tennisbubbleerectedandchangeinpermittingapproved,VFT re-openedonMarch4,2019 Nearly 200 childrenreturnedtothecourtsto participateinour early springsessionafter four monthsoff Our subsequent summer andfall sessionswereequally successful asweproudlysupport a junior membershipof 400 islandyouth! Thegirlshighschool teamcomprised of VFTplayerswent ontocaptureafifthstatechampionshiptitlewhilethe boyssaw successaswell,reachingthequarterfinalsof thestatetournament

MARTHA'SVINEYARD BOYS& GIRLSCLUB

Critical Capital Needs Emergency Award: $100,000

Cleaner, Greener, Safer Club Campaign Award: $229,514

Mission: To provide quality programs, education and services to the Island-wide youth population that will prepare them for healthy and productive lives through professionally developed programs that help to develop self-esteem, leadership skills, personal values, and mutual respect, in fun and safe environments

TheMartha?sVineyardBoys& GirlsClub (MVBGC)servesacritical rolein thecommunity by supportingall Islandyouth.Weutilizeamultifaceted approachtoempower kidstosucceedandleadhealthy,productivelives.

Weprovidecaringmentors,suchasour trainedClub staff.Weprovidea safeplacefor thekidsweserve.Weprovideinnovativequality programs designedtoempower youthtoexcel inschool andleadhealthy,productive lives.Wedowhatever it takestoensureall kidshaveagreat future.

Early Childhood Programs Facility Award: $1,000,000

Mission: To enhance the lives of those it serves by meeting the comprehensive needs of individuals, families, and the community through a partnership of programs that provide accessible education, health and human servicesof the highest quality.

Thishasbeen atransformativeyear for our EarlyChildhood Programs! We completedPhaseOneof our capital campaign,whichwill fund the constructionof our new home Thebuildingwill holdour early education and careprogram,serveasagatheringplacefor familiesenrolledinour Head Start programandprovidework andmeetingspacesfor our teachers,home visitorsandleadershipteam Weareexcited tofulfill our dreamof creatinga safe,respectful andenrichinglearningenvironment for our community Constructionisscheduled tobeginthisspring!

Wewereoneof eight organizationsinthestatetoreceiveagrant through theAttorney General?sOfficeTrauma-InformedCarefor YoungChildren Grant Program.Theprogramaimstoassist childrenwhohaveexperienced childhood traumastemmingfromviolence,separationfromparentsand caregivers,andstressduetopoverty or relatedtotheopioidcrisis.Wewill utilizethefundstoengageinaprogram-widetrainingonThePyramidModel, aframework of evidence-based practicesfor promotingyoungchildren?s healthy social andemotional development.

Mission: To provide a safe, healthy and self-sustaining recreational facility that will fulfill the ice skating needsof all the residentsand visitors of Martha?sVineyard.

Twoyearsafter itsrenovation,theIceArenacontinuestobeessential tothe fabricof theyear-roundIslandcommunity,impactingover athousandlocal youththroughregular iceactivitiesall four seasons,andthousandsof youth visitors.

2019 wasthefirst year theIceArenawasfully integratedintotheoperations of theYMCA of Martha'sVineyard.Wecontinuetoprovidequality iceand programsfor infantstocollegeageyouth,includinghockey;figureskatingand learntoskateprograms;collaborationswiththeMV PublicandCharter Schools,Island Preschoolsandnon-profit organizations;birthday parties; events;publicskating;andpublicstick andpuck

SANCTUARY

Education & Camp Barn Award: $350,000

Mission: To protect Island wildlife and wildlandsand provide open space, education programs, and opportunities for involvement in wildlife conservation for children and adultsyear-round.

2019 markedtheestablishment of FernandFeather Preschool! FelixNeck kickedtheyear off by obtainingour preschool licensethroughtheEarly EducationandCare(EEC)Massachusetts.TheEECpreschool licenseallows ustoaccept upto20 students2.9-5 yearsold,thoughwearelimiting enrollment totwelvestudentsaday.Twocommunity openhouses showcased theschool andintroduced thestaff tointerestedfamilies.The waitlist continuestogrow with85-plusfamilieslookingtosend their childto our preschool.Twofull-timepreschool staff werehired,oneapast Fernand Feather Day Campstaff,andapart-timeteacher joinedtheFelixNeck preschool team.

OnSeptember 3,2019 FernandFeather Preschool openeditsdoorsat full capacity! FelixNeck welcomed20 familiestoour programfor 2-,3-,or 5-days,withextended day options Tuitionsupport wasprovidedtofour families(25%of thestudent body)andweareabletoaccept childcare subsidy grantsfromtheMassachusettsDepartment of Housingand Community Development FY19 Community Development BuildingGrants (CDBG)program A toppriority for FelixNeck istocontinuetoobtain financial aidfundstosupport theneedsof our year-round community Felix Neck hasbegunenrollingstudentsfor the2020 school year,many of whom needtuitionassistance

Beforethepreschool launched,FelixNeck hadanother great summer of FernandFeather Day Campwithover 400 campers(ages4-13)and14 Leaders-in-Trainingandcampstaff (age14-25).Financial aidwasprovided to16 campersandall requestswereabletobeaccommodated.

Withfour monthsof naturepreschool under our belt and54 yearsof nature camp,wehavelearnedalot andwork toimproveandadapt asour community requires Weareproudof our accomplishmentsandgrateful to MVYouthfor helpingusprovideservices,joy,inspiration,andlifelong learningtotheIsland community

Mission: To maintain a public skate park and develop programming for the enrichment of Island children of all agesand abilities.

2019 wasagreat year at theMV Skatepark Thenew andimproved obstaclescontinuetopleaseIslandersandvisitorsalike Wehadagreat summer,runninginstructional clinicsMonday throughFriday Wehaveseen asteady increaseinusageacrossall agegroups,frompreschool aged childrenontheir first scooterstoexperiencedtwenty-somethingshoning their skills

Thisyear saw theadditionof a30-foot-longsidewalk element witha Vineyardpurplecurb.It isgreat for beginnersaswell asmoreadvanced skateboarders.Wearealsointhefinal stagesof installingsevenlow-level safetylights.Now theSkatepark issafely lit upafter hours,extendingusage hoursintotheeveningaswell ashelpingpeoplegettingtothebusstop.

Now that lightsareupwecanfocusonimprovingandmaintainingsomeof theoriginal obstaclesintheSkatepark Wehaveplanstofinishthe landscapingthisspring,includingtheadditionof agraniteboulder withthe MVYouthplaquemountedonit,aspart of amorewelcomingentrance

Mission: To promote and support classical music learning opportunities for Island youth

MV Chamber MusicSociety usedthelast of itsfundsinthefall of 2018 yet wehavecontinuedtoexpandour educational offeringsfor islandstudents TheArtist-in-Residenceprogramcontinuesannually Cellist,AndresVera, continuestoconnect uswithmusiciansandprovidelessonsand performancesfor islandschools,most recently inOctober 2019 InJanuary 2019 welaunchedProject Cello,bringingaprofessional cellist/instructor to theislandprovidingthefirst privatelessonstostudents Thefirst half year MVCMSprovided thesessionsfreeof cost,abenefit webelievedwould gather support andbuy infromparticipatingfamilies Sincefall 2019 we havetwovisitsper month MVCMSprovidesfreelessonsfor new cello studentsinschool whilesharingcostswithfamiliesfor after school lessons Securingadditional fundingwouldallow offeringlessonseveryweek beginninginthefall of 2020

InSeptember 2019 wepartnered withRebeccaLaird,Oak BluffsSchool stringsteacher,toprovideviolinsfor every secondgrader intheOak Bluffs School totakeviolinlessonsweekly.Thisprogramison-going.We encourageother schoolstoconsider thisoptionfor introducingstring playing.Finally,withtheElementary StringsProgram,wearesponsoringan intensivevisitation/residency,offeringsmall groupensemblelessonsto studentsover oneday andaconcert withstudentsandprofessional musicians.Thefirst programtook placeinDecember,at least onemore planned for thisschool year.Thistotalsthreenew programsintroduced sinceMVYouthfunding.Wearesothankful.

Penn Field Award: $177,810

Mission: To provide a safe, positive, healthy environment for Island boysand girlsto play baseball Through quality instruction, community support and volunteer commitment, MVLL's focusis to encourage participation, while promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship. Enriched lives, family fun and community pride is our end goal

Martha?sVineyardLittleLeagueisrunsolely by volunteers.Fromcoachesat the T-ball level totheboard of directors,everyoneparticipatesfor theloveof baseball.All of themoney MVLLraisesfromprogramfees,local community advertisinganddonationsisusedfor player equipment,uniformsandfield maintenance.

Strongcommunity support andvolunteerismcontinuetomakeMVLLoneof the most affordableyouthathleticprogramsavailableontheIsland PennFieldis thecentral locationfor all LittleLeagueactivitiesfromopeningday festivities right throughtothefinal out inthe championshipgame.It istheprimary fieldfor MVLL?shighest level of players,but alsoaccommodatesbeginnersonits adjacent practicefield.

Last year,MVLLhadasignificant increaseintheamount of kidsparticipating. Teeball saw 75 new playersstepuptotheplate,andtheupper divisionsdrew in another dozenwhohadnever playedbefore Additionally,theLeagueexpanded theagerangetoinclude13 year olds Thisnot only increased theoverall quality of play,but hasbetter preparedtheseplayersfor for BabeRuthandHighSchool play.

PennFieldhasquiteliterally beenagamechanger for Martha?sVineyard Little League It isatruly an inspiringexperiencetobethereonopeningday alongside 300 boysandgirlsintheir vibrant teamcolorsasthey celebratethestart of baseball seasonwiththeir familiesandfriendscheeringthemon

MARTHA'SVINEYARD COMMUNITY SERVICES

Island Wide Youth Collaborative Building Award: $620,780

Mission: To enhance the lives of those it serves by meeting the comprehensive needsof individuals, families, and the community through a partnership of programs that providesaccessible education, health and human servicesof the highest quality.

Inthefourthyear of theIWYCwecontinuedtoserveislandfamiliesand youngadultsages18 to24 Servicesprovidedinclude:referralstovarious community organizationstoassist residentswithmental healthand substanceabuseissues,housing,government agenciessupports(DTA, SNAP,etc.),casemanagement,andprogramminginareastosupport financial literacyandlikeskills.InNovember of 2019 theDepartment of ChildrenandFamilies(DCF)increasedfundingtotheIWYCenablingthe programtoexpandfromaMicroFamily ResourceCenter toaFull Family ResourceCenter Withthisexpansionwewereabletodoubleour staff as well hirea40 hour clinician.Programmingfor familiesandindividualswill expandinthecomingyear aswell increasedhoursof operation(three eveningsaweek andtwoSaturdaysamonth) Programmingprovidedbythe IWYCin2019:

Inthepast semester,I took sixclasses AlthoughI wasapprehensiveabout thisheavy courseloadasa first-semester freshman,I wasassured bymy family,friends,counselors,andprofessorsthat I wouldreceivethesupport I needed aslongI put in thehardwork That issomethingI havecometo deeply appreciate Theschool will alwaysmeet you ?halfway?,if not all theway.

I took avarietyof different classesincluding calculus,microeconomics,andpsychology Oneof my favoriteexperienceswasmy three-hour psych lecture.Althoughthreehoursof any classmight seemdreadful for some,theprofessor wasableto present theinformationinintriguingandrichways that madethecontent mean somethingtome.The small classsizesensuredthat eachstudent was abletoask questionsandfeel heardinseminars USD alsohasafantasticlanguagedepartment andI innoway hesitatedtotakeadvantageof this offering.TheItaliancourseI took solidified all the knowledgeof thelanguagethat I knew while teachingmesomuchmore. Later thispast semester I engaged inwhat?scalledthe planprocess,startingtosolidify thenext few yearsof my collegecareer Theplanprocessallowsstudentsto submit afreeformideafor acourseof study toasmall groupof relevant teachersinsteadof atraditional major system Inadditiontomeetingwiththeir advisors,each student explainsinanessayhow they want topursue their interestsaswell ashow they will contributetothe institution

Unfortunately mystruggleswithepilepsy havepersisted, totheextent that I felt it wasnecessary andunavoidable for metopauseandre-calibratemy next steps.During my planmeeting,I explainedtomy advisersthat it is difficult tocontinuethecoursesI haveset out for myself whilehavingtonicclonicseizuresalmost daily.My time at Benningtonistoovaluablefor menot tobeat my best. Twodaysafter graduation,I droveout toIowatostart ajobasafield organizer for ElizabethWarren?spresidential campaign For thepast eight months,I'velivedinClinton,Iowa,locatedinnortheasternIowa alongtheMississippi River,onawinery andworked tobuildagiant volunteer basetoelect ElizabethWarrenPresident WhileinIowa,I knockedonover 5,000 doors,madeover 17,000 phonecalls,andwas abletointroduceElizabethtocrowdsandmeet withher onseveral occasions I?vegottentowork withtonsof passionateIowansand learnabout theskillsneededtobuildanorganizationfromtheground up.Oncaucusnight,I wasinacaucusroom,helpingwithpersuasion andwasabletowitnessthehistoric,andquitefranklychaotic,nature of theIowacaucuses Asof now,I amstill workingasan organizer for ElizabethinMinneapolis,Minnesotawhowill behavingtheir election onSuper Tuesday (only about twoweek away)!
