MVYouthhasinvestedover $8 5 million incollege,workforcedevelopment and healthcare& educationscholarshipsfor 113 students.

College Scholarships

Our original scholarship program,thecollegescholarship programoffersfour yearsof last-dollar fundingtostudents withfinancial need whoare pursuingbachelor'sdegrees Finalistsdemonstrate exceptional academic performance,character and service.in2025,thisprogram receivedroughly 50 applications andhasthegreatest degreeof competition.Roughly 6-8 recipientsareselected eachyear Inour first elevenyears,70%of our awardshavebeencollege scholarships,totaling $6 million.

Healthcare & Education Scholarships

Our newest scholarshipprogram supportsstudentsinterestedin pursuingcareersinhealthcare andeducation Similar tothe collegescholarshipprogram, four-yearsof last-dollar funding areprovidedto studentswith financial needseekingbachelor's degrees.Roughly 3-6 recipients areselected eachyear After four yearsof operatingthisprogram, 17%of our awardshavebeen healthcareand education scholarships,totaling $1 4 million

Workforce Development Scholarships

Our most personalizedprogram, workforcedevelopment scholarshipssupport highschool seniorsand youngadultseager toget technical trainingto pursuecareersin:automotive technology,aviation,building trades,cosmetology,culinary arts,early childhood education, healthcare,horticulture& landscaping,marinetradesand windtechnology Roughly 3-6 recipientsareselectedeachyear. My first semester of hair school hasbeenatransformative experiencethat hasstrengthened my passionfor hair and cosmetology andreassuredmethat I'montheright career path Enteringtheprogram,I wasexcitedbut alsonervous, unsureof what to expect and what challengesI wouldbe facingonmy owninthenew hands-on,fast pace environment Over thecourseof thesemester,I have gainednot only technical skills,but confidence,discipline, and adeeper appreciation for theart andresponsibility of hair care

Myfirst semester at AmericanUniversity hasbeenbetter thanI couldever have imagined! Havingspent my wholelifeon Martha'sVineyard,I wasbothexcitedand nervousfor city life Luckily,AUstrikesthe perfect balance Inthecity,but alsoaquiet residential area It hasalwaysbeenadream of minetobeinDC,andasaPolitical Science andLegal Studiesmajor,it'samazingtosee how many peoplesharemy interests It's easy toget intoaconversationabout government or legal institutionswithpeople I'dleast expect it from Thelibrary andour local coffeeshop,The Bridge,havebecomemy homeaway from home.I liketodesignatemy work away from my roomsothat whenI'mthere,I canfocus onrelaxing Settingmental boundarieshas beensomethingI'veworkedonalot this semester Withsomuch accesstofree museums,strollsthroughGeorgetown,and a heavycourseload,it'seasy to get overwhelmed I'velearnedhow toallot time andplacesfor things,allowingmyself toget everythingdone But doingmy work is somethingI heavily enjoy I oftenfindmyself researchingsomethingand gettingso interestedinlearningabout it that I get astray fromthework itself

Education hasalwaysbeenapassionof mine,and the classesI havetakenthissemester have deepenedthat callinginso many ways! I havemademany tripsdowntoLake Champlainexploringthebeachandtrails;along withhikingthemountainsI seeeveryday from campus

At first I wasoverwhelmedwithall thenew opportunities,but shortly after school startedI attendedtheclubfair whereI joinedmany clubs,includingtheski club,art club,and Vermont nursingassociation InreturnI have built lotsof new friendshipsby attendingthe meetingsandevents Thetransitionfrommy closeknit community onMartha?sVineyardto the?real world?wasanexcitingnew adventure. DuringorientationI familiarizedmyself with thecampusand met lotsof friendlypeople AsI adjustedtomy new reality,I quickly found community withinmy nursingfamily and my fellow dormitory residents.

Now that?sit for thesappy bit.I entered school withmy major already declaredand I havefoundit bothablessingandacurse On theplussideI canget pre-requisiteclasses out of theway but thoseclassesget dropped ontopof thecurseof thealready necessary coreclasses If I weretoadviseayounger student toknow what youwant to dobut go intoschool asanundecidedmajor,get those coreclassesover withbecauseit?sjust high school withlessof asupport system.Take your first year to findyour placeinall of the new chaos Takeclassesyoufindinteresting, findteachersyoulike,makefriendsoutside of your typical interests They will teachyou themost,they will betheonestoget you out of your dormontheweekends Not knowingall of thisiswhy I foundmyself strugglinginthefirst semester,now that I know I'mthriving I havecarvedout acorner of other medical studentsand otherswith thesamenichehobbiesasmeeventhough they havecompletely different majorsas me They haveamajority of different intereststhanmeandthey openedmy eyes tonew things.I'mexcitedtoseewhat the rest of thissemester holdsand asit standsit holdsalot of snow andbelow zero temperatures By nomeansisthisa complaint I loveit all uphere I will seeyou all inthesummer.GO CATAMOUNTS!

Thisfirst semester at Rensselaer PolytechnicInstitutewasa blast,and I lovedtakingadvantageof all thenew opportunitiescollegeoffered! Outsideof classes,I spent a lot of timewithfriends,especially playingpickleball afew timesaweek Wealsoformedanintramural soccer team, whichwasalot of fun (eventhoughweonly wononegame) Theseactivitieshelpedmestay activeand madecampus feel comfortablevery quickly.

Academically,I learned thefoundationsof mathandphysics that I will continuetobuildonthroughout my four yearsat RPI However,what I wasmost excitedabout wasjoining theRensselaer Rocket Society I wasinvolvedinalot of rocketry inhighschool,but I hadnever beensurroundedby somany peoplewhoshared thesamepassion SinceRPI has alargenumber of aerospaceengineers,therearemany peopleto shareideaswithandlearnfrom.

Oneof my main goalsthissemester wastoearnmy Level 1 (L1)amateur rocketrycertification,whichallowsyouto fly larger rocketswithmorepowerful motors Toearn it,you must successfully launchand recover arocket usinga high-power motor Through theRocket Society?sL1 MentorshipProgram,I workedalongsideabout 30 other studentswhowerejust asexcitedabout rocketry asI wasto get thisachievement By theendof thesemester,I earned bothmy L1 and L2 certifications? somethingnoother freshmanaccomplished

Throughthisprocess,I met membersof theAscendant ResearchGroupand becameclosefriendswiththem At the endof thesemester,I wasselected tojointheteam,which acceptsonly twonew membersper year! They arecurrently workingonarocket designedtopasstheKármánline(the edgeof space),andI?mincredibly excitedtocontribute RPI hasalready taught meso much,and I?mvery grateful to MVYouthfor enablingmeto havetheseexperiences They haveexceededeverythingI hopedcollegewouldbe,and I amever thankful for everybody?ssupport!
