LAKEHOUSE Luxury Residential House Work Produced under the supervision of Rhizome studio, Nairobi.(2019-2021) Project Role: Project Architect A residential house in the Nairobi suburbs, it’s location at the shore of a lake, inspired its horizontal form and fins. The glass front facing the lake, creates a visual connection with the lake and also connects the interior spaces to nature using large glass openings. The design uses industrial materials and elements such as concrete fins and steel fascias and glass to make the building a bold contemporary home

Located in Nairobi this is a contemporary house that visualizes horizontal and vertical form to create emerging spaces. A key design decision has always been reduction; simplifying spaces, details and form to dictate the building. The building heavily emphasizes the notion of inside-outside living to blur boundaries of where building ends and landscape begins. Off shutter concrete faces deviate from conventional construction methods in Nairobi and present unique aesthetics to the dwelling. Strategic implementation of wood and concrete create a textured living experience embodying both warmth and coolness of the location. Itcaptures the idea of openness in a beautifully controlled fashion

DESIGN PROPOSAL
Nanyuki Farmhouses
For this proposal, the brief was to design farmhouses typologies which were fit into the context of the Nanyuki region. We provided 3 typologies which would cater for the needs of the different types of urbanite groups that would visit these homes.
Weekend get-away farmhouses
Our goal is to use rough natural materials and finishes such as yellow stone, which would be locally available and allow the building to blend into it’s surrounding. For the interiors, we proposed a more contemporary & minimalist material pallete giving the user the feeling of looking out to a peaceful natural whilst still experiencing the conveniences of urban living. The spatial organisation also reflect the contemporary open arrangement exposing the inside to the outside with large openings facing the exterior deck and connecting to the site.

Railways transport interchange hub SCHOOL PROJECTS
Transport & Inf rastructure 4th year final project (2017) The project site is the Nairobi Railway bus stage and station, The objective of the project was to design a transport interchange hub to bring together different modes of transport in Nairobi’s urban realm, the pedestrians, train, bus, cycling and the future urban light rail. The concept of convergence is explored by the creation of two main structures stacked side by side creating a courtyard inbetween, a public space open to the sky to behave as the ‘makutano’ space for the urbanites as they wait for their prefered means of transport. Also since the flow of traffic is largely predictable the courtyard uses landscaping architectural elements to guide the pedestrians through the courtyard. The two main structures connect with the existing railway station separating the passengers into two, daily commuters from Syokimau, Imara Daima e.t.c and Long distance travellers from Mombasa, Voi e.t.c.
IMENTI HOUSE REAIL CENTRE Urban Retail Design

6th year final project (2019) The project is a mixed use retail centre that will replace the current Imenti House building. The project will focus on The use of breathable facades and stack chimneys to cool itself and also improve the indoor air quality. To build a mixed used retail faclity with the CBD which can cool itself naturally, which will have minimal impact to it’s surroundings and the environment during its construction and can generate revenue during the daytime and evening. It should accommodate retailers, customers, MCFCU admin and Saccos.

We envisioned a mix of open working areas and small enclosures for internal meetings and collaboration. We provided space and allowances for the future staff to make sure space still catered for the client as they grew. Each space was tailored for each department use requirements.

Work Produced under the supervision of Wanda Synergy in Parklands, Nairobi. (2014) Project Role: Project Architect Co-operative Bank required a high end branch outlet located at the Ridgeways Mall. We designed formal lounge space which had a warm material palette which creates a welcoming feel for the client making visits to the bank more pleasant for the clients.
