So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, Come peasant, king to own Him: The King of kings salvation brings; Let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise, the song on high, The Virgin sings her lullaby; Joy, joy, for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary!
Why lies He in such mean estate, Where ox and ass are feeding? Good christians, fear: for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, The Cross He bourne for me, for you; Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary!

Performance Time: c. 5:50 About the Work What Child is This? is a new setting of the famous carol, with a melody attributed to Henry VIII and lyrics by William Chatterton Dix. The music has a modal language, with a medieval style that tries to describe the tenderness, simplicity and expression of the text. It begins with an introduction to set the scene, which serves as an interlude between the three stanzas. The first stanza presents the main melody, very simple and innocent, in the manner of a lullaby which climaxes in ‘Haste!’. The second stanza contains soft melismas in the voices accompanying the melody. In the third stanza the harmony of the beginning changes slightly, and the leaps in the melody are greater, producing more emphasis. In the final coda, a Mezzo-soprano solo performs a brief quotation of Greensleeves' famous melody, in a fusion of tradition and modernity. About me
I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the “Escolanía de la Virgen”. The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
