Gregory W. Brown
poetry by A.E. Housman
in memory of John Campbell Marshall (28.1.1962 – 29.12.2011) A gentle, funny and gifted man, John was a musician and founder of ‘The Opera Company,’ one of the finest national touring companies of its time. Educating future generations regarding the horror and unnecessary human loss of the ‘Great War’ was part of John’s life’s work, and this cycle celebrates his spirit and determination to challenge, educate and change society through the shared experience of the creative arts. “He was the rarest of people, a born enabler who did it all for others.” The London Times This work was commissioned by Geoffrey Silver, and is inspired by a collaborative session of improvised music-making with the composer in February 2013.
