The World Afire
The world suspended in motion, Stopped dead on the path of those who came before, Growing up and looking forward with emotion, To part one another on that same hallowed floor.
For the heat obstructed us from bliss, And left reality unfurled, We departed childhood not on a stage, But in a dark, disease-ridden world.
We learned the world was always afire, And the flame too distant to sear. That we could no longer live our lives, In that safe and youthful clear.
So many memories may seem wasted, For they were built on a future that cannot be, But just remember that after the smoke clears, There will still be you and me.
