A Few Notes on the Text The work is in Hebrew with a narration in English. The Hebrew is transliterated into a phonetic Spanish. The vowels are pronounced as you would pronounce them in Spanish. Think: “Mi casa es su casa” (That has the sound of 4 vowels) or “Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco”, (that has the sound of the 5 vowels). The “ch” sound is the Spanish “j”. The “h”, when used before a vowel is pronounced like the English “h”. When the “h” is used after a vowel, it is mute. The “g”, when used before an “e” or an “i” and followed by a “u”, it is to sound like a soft “g”, as in the English word “go”. In this case the “u” is mute. This follows Spanish grammar and is especially noticeable in the word “eguel”, which means “calf’. The narrator’s entries are either at the beginning of the scene, in which case they are unaccompanied by music, or they are in the score, where they are marked in the list of instruments as “Narrator” and they are performed with background music. Supertitles are highly recommended so that people can understand everything that is being sung. Their importance cannot be overemphasized. This work is based on "Moses, An Oratorio", a work that is 95 minutes long and covers the whole life of Moses and which features soloists, a chamber orchestra and an SATB choir. That oratorio consists of 2 acts, and each can be present as a complete work in itself. The first one is called Moses: the Story of Passover; and the second one is called Moses, the Giving of the Law.

NARRATOR: Our story begins with the people of Israel enslaved by the Pharaoh of Egypt. They arrived in Egypt in times of Joseph and were very prosperous until a new Pharaoh took over and felt threatened by the numbers of the Hebrews. Narrator: But there was an order to kill all Hebrew boys as they where born. So Moses' Mom put him in a basket and placed the vessel on the Nile, which took him to where Paraoh's daughter was bathing. Pharaoh's daughter rescued Moses and raised him as his own, in the royal court. One day Moses exited the palace and he saw the Hebrew s' suﬀering, he saw an egyptian taskmaster giving a beating to a Hebrew slave. That day he decided to do something about it.

Narrator: After his marriage , and now having a family, Moses found himself living in Midyan and shepherding Ytroh's ﬂocks. One day, as he was with his herd , he saw a burning bush that wouldn't consume. On approaching it, God's voice called him by his name. Moses replied "Hineni", here I am. And then God proceeded to introduce himself and to give Moses his calling to free the people of Israel.
