About the Work The text, taken from the Gospel of Luke, describes the moment when the Emmaus disciples walk with Jesus and invite him to stay with them, although they do not yet recognize him. It is a simple score, created in a minimal style, with slight modifications in its repetitions and an important symbolic burden. It begins with Soprano and Alto soloists, who symbolize the two disciples who speak to Jesus. In the work, the numbers 3 –which represents the divine– and 2 –the human–, as well as the sum of both (5), take on significance, hence the theme is repeated 5 times. It must be interpreted from lowest to highest expressiveness to reach its peak in the fourth repetition, written in 4 + 1 voices when adding the discantus of the solo Soprano. About me I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the “Escolanía de la Virgen”. The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
