Notes

This is a work in which rhythm is an especially integral part of the structure. When the voices are singing actual pitches, it is important that the notes and words are properly articulated. When they are making non-pitched vocal sounds (rehearsal letters D-E and F-G), tongue clicks and lip smacks should be liberally employed in order to accentuate the percussive nature of the words. The tempo throughout the piece should not vary until the accel. poco a poco (measure 97) at which point it should accelerate to a tempo as fast as humanly possible while still maintaining textual comprehension.

Stay in Time

You must stay in time, Neither early nor late. You must stay in time, Not fast or slow. Watch the seconds pass As you sit and wait. Stay in time.

Time is what we need. Time is what we waste. When we’re losing time We must make haste. Now the future’s here And the past is gone. Stay in time.

You can buy time, shoot time, Find some time to kill. You can give time, take time, Squander time and chill. Time just rushes swift and silent like the morning tide. Stay in time.

There is spending time. There is time well spent. You can watch the time To your heart’s content. You can save your time, But you’ll never get it back. Stay in time.

This time, that time, long time, short time, First time, last time, day time, night time Finding time, losing time, giving time, taking time, Any time, every time, nick-of time, happy time, One time, two-time, earth time, space time, Waking time, sleepy time, supper time, out of time, Half time, full time, cut time, mean time, Summertime, winter time, standard time, local time, Tea time, coffee time, party time, ragtime, Good time, bad time, lovely time, lousy time, Wake time, break time, lifetime, out of time.

You can call for time. You can call “time out!” Time’s the one sure thing You can’t live without. Plant the seeds of time And you’ll grow to learn: Stay in time.

You can throw out time; “Time’s” a magazine. You can pass the time Sharing time long past. You can be on time Or, time out of mind. Stay in Time.
