Sicut cervus is dedicated to my chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS. Taking the wonderful setting of Palestrina as a reference, I have used a pentatonic scale in F to create, within an archaic style, a fluid and sinuous melody that represents a hart that runs agilely through valleys and mountains, with a light melody harmonized in four-part. In contrast, in the second section the divisions appear, with a more effusive and expressive character that leads to the climax in ‘ad te, Deus’ –to you, God–, within an orchestral writing. After that, the initial section is re-exposed, ending quietly and serenely.
