Sanctus begins simply with a violin solo which then passes on to an optional soprano soloist. As the choir enters, phrases build and swell with each utterance. A contrasting, acapella Benedictus section conveys a sense of increased motion to match the text. This builds to a final return of the Sanctus text, soaring with adoration, a sense of abandonment, and joy. Sanctus may be performed alone as a choral anthem for concert or service of worship, or it may be performed alongside Kyrie for added effect.
