O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood, as to understand, to be loved, as to love: for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

About the Work
I composed this piece in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, but in the wake of the terrible events in Ukraine, I decided to dedicate this piece for peace in that country. The song is inspired by Allen Pote's setting, beautifully arranged by Robert Delgado. In the main section, the song describes melodically and harmonically what the text suggests: hatred, love, injury, pardon, doubt, faith, despair, hope, darkness, light, sadness, joy.
The third section corresponds to the second stanza of the poem, with an abrupt change of key (D major). The music becomes dramatic from the text 'for it is in giving...', until it reaches a great release in 'Eternal Life'.
The re-exposition is more forceful and orchestral, ending with a coda similar to the introduction, serene and confident.
Prayer of St. Francis was premiered by NEOVOCALIS, conducted by myself, on 2 April 2022 whitin the HOPE project.

About me
I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the ‘Escolanía de la Virgen’
The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
