Text 1. O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light; the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.
3. How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heaven. No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin, where meek souls will receive Him, the dear Christ enters in.
2. For Christ is born of Mary, and, gathered all above, while mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond’ring love. O morning stars, together proclaim the Holy birth, and praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth.
4. O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel! Phillips Brooks (1868)
Performance Time: c. 5:50 About the Work O Little Town of Bethlehem is a new setting of the famous carol, with text by Phillips Brooks. I have tried to reflect in my music the beauty and tenderness of the poem. A very simple introduction with the first verse serves as a connecting element between the four stanzas of the work, presented with different textures. The climax appears in the fourth stanza, where the character of the text changes radically and becomes more imploring, but always preserving the delicacy. O Little Town of Bethlehem was released online by NEOVOCALIS on November 11, 2023, conducted by myself.
About me
I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the ‘Escolanía de la Virgen’. The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
